Diagnosed with an incurable disease, she thought her life was over. When she is sacrificed to a dragon, she learns it has only just begun…The day Chrysanthemum Jones goes to exact revenge on the man responsible for her sister’s death is the day she knows will be her last. Instead, she finds herself stolen away to another dimension and sacrificed to a real live dragon. Rather than a cave full of … Rather than a cave full of gold, this dragon’s lair is a throwback to the 1980’s complete with pixelated video games, unwound VHS tapes, and animal print spandex. And the mythical creature in question is totally more sex on a stick than Smaug. Schweet!
As one of the last dragon shifters beyond the Veil, Corun is desperate to control the beast inside of him. The only thing guaranteed to keep the dragon under control is the surrender of a human female. But sacrificial offerings have been in short supply since his realm was cut off from Earth -something or other about women’s liberation? So when a sacrifice turns up on his doorstep, Corun should be elated. But as totally tubular as Chryssie’s curves are, her health is fragile and he fears she wouldn’t survive the claiming that would soothe his beast.
Death has never bothered Chryssie. With an incurable, hereditary disease, she’s been prepared to die her whole life. Now she has a chance to lose her V card and birth dragon babies before she goes? Talk about bad ass exits. Count her in! She just needs to get her sexy dragon shifter on board and in bed.
As Corun becomes more attached to his sassy little human, his beast roars that Chryssie is his and pushes to claim her. If he doesn’t claim her and soothe the beast inside of him, he will become stuck in dragon form for the rest of his life. However, if he does claim her, the birth of his offspring could be the last day of her life.
If you love alpha male shifters, fated mates, and steamy romance with a touch of 80’s nostalgia, then you don’t want to miss The Last Dragons series!

I was granted, via B00|{$P®0UT, an ARC of Ines Johnson’s “The Dragon’s Reluctant Sacrifice: a Dragon Shifter Romance (The Last Dragons Book 1).” I recommend this book to others based upon its own merits. All opinions expressed within this review are uniquely my own & freely given!
Until next time… Happy Reading!
A dragon shifter romance with plenty of males needing their mates. The story focuses on Corun, a dragon shifter and Chryssie, a young woman brought into his world. Dragons need human females since there are no female dragons. But since they live in the veil and can’t go to the human realm they have a serious problem. Thankfully they have a Valkyrie that seems to want to help them. The character of Chryssie is unique. Her whole life has not been normal but very painful. She knew death was near and wanted to go out her own way. But one Valkyrie will change that all. Expect plenty of fighting between the dragons and a romance that isn’t the norm.
The Dragon’s Reluctant Sacrifice by Ines Johnson is an awesome story to read. This is book number one in this awesome start to a brand new series that I have loved reading. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about dragons and paranormal romance.

I so loved the story and the descriptions of the Dragon men are amazing as well. Can not wait to start the next book in the series
Would recommend it to everyone
Spoilers –> kind of
He’s the sacrificial one, not his babe. He’d sacrifice his happiness for hers; but hey, his dragon is a selfish b*stard. He just wants her nectar. The guy part of the dragon figures out how to keep his babe safe from his dragon , and then can’t resist her himself; ya know, because she’s a babe.
That’s the basics of the cute plot, but there is so much more to this story! You’ll have to read it to figure out how and where I left out some key points. You don’t need to know the entire story before you read it.
Chrysanthemum/Chryssie is a dead girl walking, she has been since the day she was born, a hereditary disease was stealing her young life away.
But first she needs to make the doctor who took her sisters life go first. He killed her and sold body parts on the black market. She will have her revenge or die trying….
Corun is tired of struggling with his dragon. Having sex with fairies and fae worked for a while, but no longer, and he won’t rely on a female to restrain his dragon, science will help his brothers and himself to contain their dragons.
I get the impression Corun is a scientist, trying to concoct a mixture to keep his beast in check. But more potions than an antidote.
This story is different, dragons are the dominant species and they have a human inside. If the beast gets its way, then the human stays trapped inside forever, the solution is to Mate with a human female, that contains the dragon, the males can still transform into a dragon, but it’s not always trying to get out.
There is a mating process but the birth of baby dragons kills the females.
The Veil keeps the dragons hidden but trapped, and they seemed to be stuck in the 80’s.
Long ago the dragons had their pick of sacrifices, the humans sent them as offerings. But Valkyrie stopped them, so now no females….
This story had me chuckling, stuck in the 80’s with nothing to do but play Mario and solve Rubik’s cubes.
Meeting Chryssie brings it all to a head for Corun, he won’t mate her, he feels something for her, but won’t have dragon babies with her, even if the female is willing!
Chryssie made me chuckle, her life has been given back to her, so shouldn’t it be her choice if she wants to die in childbirth? Not according to her sexy dragon man it’s not!
Well it looks like Chryssie is going to have to seduce her dragon. Well the man anyway, the dragon is all onboard for a mate.
Liking this new world, full of desperate dragon males and no females. Valkyrie and shifters, and do t forget the Fae.
Looks like we are in for a fun time
Chrys has a deadly disease just like her younger sister. Since she has an expiration date, she needs to avenge her sister’s death. However, she runs into some trouble with a Valkyrie after the same doctor as Chrys. That’s how she ended up with Corun and his dragon brothers. She is not afraid of anything. Across the veil she is no longer ill and she has an opportunity to live her life. It won’t be all roses though, but she has a new family to help. This is a great beginning for this series.
She is about to get her revenge and she knows it is her last day. She ends up in a strange place with him, he is a dragon shifter. He needs to mate soon before he is stuck as a dragon. Will he take her? Will she calm the dragon inside him? See if it will all end well

This is my first time reading this story and the author has done a great job coming up with a slightly different plot for their dragon book. I found this to be an emotional read at times and at other times fun. A great book, well worth the read.

The Dragon’s Reluctant Sacrifice by Ines Johnson is the first book in the Last Dragon series. In this book, Chryssie has decided to kill the doctor who murdered her sister before she dies of the same disease her sister had. However, while she is holding a gun on the doctor and preparing another women appears who tells her she plans to take him to hell for his misdeeds. Next thing Chryssie knows she is waking up bound up and hung from a hook like a sacrifice in a cave. This is the beginning of her life on the other side of the veil where she soon meets and is claimed by Curon a gorgeous dragon shifter who wants to save her life instead of sacrifice it. This story is exciting with lots of humorous scenes. It made me laugh and long for a sweet dragon shifter of my own. If you love a wonderfully written paranormal romance with a surprise happy ever after ending then you will love this book as much as I do. The Dragon’s Reluctant Sacrifice is an entertaining and sweet paranormal romance.
Exciting to accept your fate, only to learn there is another path open. Chryssie/Chrysanthemum has a pulmonary hereditary terminal illness. She reconciled herself to living with the idea that you will die from it. Her mission was to take out the doctor responsible for killing her sister, Hyacinth, who died from the same disease, presuming that would be her last live act. A new player, Morrie a Valkyrie showed up. She came to escort the doctor to hell. She brought Chryssie to the dragons because she, Chryssie made a little mistake, which was a hoot! Corun is a dragon shifter who struggles to control his dragon. He is stuck behind The Veil which was sealed, separating his realm from human earth. Only a ‘sacrifice’, a human mating and delivering a child can calm the dragons. Sadly, the mother rarely survives the birth. If she does, she can go insane. Corun and his dragon like Chryssie and want to fulfill their destiny. Only, Corun doesn’t want Chryssie to die. Chryssie is delighted to learn that she can lose her V card and have a baby, things she never expected to achieve. Will Corun fulfill his destiny? Will Chryssie die if he does? Can Corun find a way to have all that he wants? The journey through this story is delightful. You come to like Chryssie, Corun and his brothers. The book is an easy read with characters of depth. Enjoyable, well done! I received an ARC from Booksprout for a review.
For a first in a series this book could have been better. I liked the overall concept of the supernatural world the author wanted to build only the execution felt a bit lacking. There were some weird sentences and the story wasn’t really flowing which was odd considering the number of books behind this author’s sleeve. I felt like I would have needed more details to make a good fundation for a new series.
It wasn’t a bad book but unfortunately I expected better.
I really loved the beginning of The Dragon’s Reluctant Sacrifice. From the first paragraph my interest was captured and I was ready for an exciting read. Unfortunately, things didn’t continue as I had hoped. As I was introduced to the dragons and their world I was confused on several levels. One was exactly when the story takes place as there are many references to 1980’s culture. I kept feeling like I was missing something. Another problem for me was that some of the dragon brothers felt childish to me. Although I love video games, the scenes with them playing felt overly long and the physical fighting between two of the brothers, in particular, was tiresome. I got it, they’re competitive and aggressive.
I did like the potential of the Valkyries and want to read more about them. I just wish the dragon shifters were just as interesting. While I felt the story was overall an interesting one, it wasn’t as good as I initially hoped and the twist was easy to guess from the start.
At the end of the day, I find myself curious about what comes next and want to read more about the brothers, particularly Rhoyl and his situation (sorry no spoilers here). I’m giving this 3 out of 5 stars with the hope that future books will improve for me and live up the potential I feel is there.
This story reminds me of a Dump Cake recipe where you throw all the ingredients into a bowl and just mix it all up. Then let matter takes it course, and low and below a completed bake cake.

I enjoy this book from beginning to the end. The characters are well developed and engaging and the chemistry is strong. The storyline flowed smoothly from the beginning to the end.

The mythology behind this story was really intriguing. It was refreshing to see the heroine being the one to push to get closer as well! I enjoyed this fast, new take on a shifter romance. Corun and Chryssie are an interesting pairing and you can’t help but root for them as a couple. Chryssie’s medical issues and Corun’s moral stance on things bolster their points of view.
Really enjoyable read!

Corun is a dragon living behind the Veil who is attempting to control his powerful dragon which in the past was accomplished by having a mate – no longer an option since they were cut off from Earth. But when a Valkyrie decides to bring Corun a sacrifice – a human female to take as his mate – Chryssie’s life is changed. Chryssie has been dying all of her life from an incurable disease, so she is not afraid of death. When she is taken to Corun, located in another dimension, she is to be his mate. If a dragon mates with a human, it calms his dragon side, but once the human is pregnant, she does not survive the birth.
Corun doesn’t want Chryssie to die, and though he is willing to mark her as his mate, he doesn’t want to claim her and make her pregnant because he would be sentencing her to certain death. Her health has already improved in this dimension, and she now has someone who cares for her and can have a family with him, no matter how briefly. She wants to do that. Will she convince him this is meant to be? Or will he refuse to inadvertently end her life in trying to control his beast?
This is quite a different portrayal of dragons and mates than other books have shown. Corun is afraid to risk Chryssie’s life, yet there is something unique about her situation. There could possibly be hope for his kind – but he will have to risk her life for them to know. How will they decide? Will there be hope for a future here for the dying dragon species? Grab your book and see where the story line will lead.
