The Department of Dragon Affairs sends Dr. Kiyana Barnes to Lochguard with a group of human women open to having dragon mates. She’s supposed to help them adjust to being around dragon-shifters while also observing how the clan works on a day-to-day basis. She most definitely isn’t supposed to notice how one look from a certain dragonman teacher sets her skin on fire, let alone ask him to kiss … her in a weak moment, given her past.
Alistair Boyd spends most of his time in the clan’s archives, searching for a solution to fulfill the vow he made to himself three years ago. However, when his clan leader orders him to educate the latest group of humans to come to Lochguard, he has no choice but to cut back and do his clan duty. One of the females catches his eye, but he tries to resist her. After all, he made an important vow. One that includes staying away from females until it’s complete.
One weak moment results in a kiss that changes both Kiyana and Alistair’s lives forever. Unfortunately, a clan emergency means keeping Alistair’s dragon silent for more days than he’d like. Will Alistair’s duty to clan end up harming his dragon and pushing away the woman who is his second chance? Or, will he beat the clock to have everything he didn’t know he wanted?

This whole series is a wonderful concept of Dragons living in a human world.
I love Jessie’s dragons. We have been waiting for Alistair’s story for quite a while but it was well worth the wait. Lots of changes from the DDA. What a great job with the intricacies of so many new people and the interactions. It was nice to get a better understanding of Alistair and why he is the way he is.
Thank you Jessie for all the great stories.
Department of Dragon affairs was trying something different they sent 10 human females to mingle and get the know the Dragon men. It was hoped to find more lasting mates.
Alistair is a Dragon man here to teach the women all about the Dragon way of life and nothing more. He has it in his head he faild a girl he loved. He has a job to do and he gave his word. A Dragon man never goes back on the so no fun and no mate for him. But that doctor is making that really hard to keep.
Dr. Kiyana Barnes is going to writing a book about the Dragon shifters. So she will be living there for 6 months but for the first few months she will be the 10 girls chaperone. Her mind is only on her book, learning and her job until she meet him. Now you would think everything would be so easy nope lol your just going to have to read all that went on. I loved the characters it’s an amazing story lots of action, drama, mystery, and so much more. Don’t miss it . Voluntarily review a copy and I honestly loved it
In many ways this was a difficult story to read because I myself am in denial for various reason. But this is not about me this is Alistair’s and Kihana’s story.
Alistair is a dragon shifter who is a teacher and a researcher for a secret project regarding a promise made to a lost friend. He denies himself any interest in former dreams of a mate and family due to his promise. This has changed how he interacts with family and friends. When he is tasked with teaching a group of humans hoping to pair up with a dragon shifter as well as Dr. Kihana Barnes an anthropologist giving permission by Finn to observe his clan for three months. When he sees Kihana something awakens inside him.
Dr. Kihana Barnes is dedicated to proving she can do the job without getting involved with a dragon shifter due to one in the past that nearly cost her position on the DDA. Upon meeting Alistair something stirs inside her but she must deny it as she won’t put her position in jeopardy again.
At the end of this story fraught with emotions, angst and drama I am left wondering if this is the end or just a bridge for a new generation. Regardless of the previously mentioned situations Ms. Donovan knocked my socks off with her in depth story telling.
I voluntarily read an advance copy and have not been compensated for my honest opinion. But feel free to judge it for yourself and you might find yourself agreeing with me.
Holy dragon fire Batman that was intense!! Seriously this book was amazing, hard to put down and the drama never ended! It was delightful to read about even after so many years!!
Character breakdown;
Alistair: okay so at first totally wanted to smack him a little. (With my kindle. A few times!) But when reason reached him I was glad he was redeemed. I also feel sorry that the author was mean to him!
Kiyana: smart, observant, a great match for a dragon could have made a great leader. She was amazing from beginning to end and I loved her determination through it all!! She’s my favorite so far.
Layla(Dr): because I cannot wait for her book and to see how she’ll be in it. Honestly I’m loving her already!
Favorite Quote: “It’s true. I fought it, but now I can see how useless that was. I want you, Kiyana. And I will thank the universe every f****** day that you were strong enough to stay and fight for me.”
I just can’t wait for the next book this one was amazing and the suspense was real lol. You don’t always get to see so much refresh energy in a series this long. Looking forward to what happens next!
She had been given a wonderful opportunity to supervise a group of women visiting Lochguard with the idea of some wanting to mate with a dragonman to increase their population. She wanted to make sure all was proper and no one just wanted a one nighter with a human or dragonman. She had no plans for one of those hot men catching her eye and libido.
Alistair had no plans to find another woman ever. We all know about the best-laid plans. Now could they come to terms with their pasts and possible futures?
The two have wonderful ideas and plans to help the dragon society. Using his experience he is asked to investigate a possible danger for all dragons. As it happens the danger is to him–his dragon. Would their possible future end before it begins?
The characters are wonderful people with more concern for others than themselves. They deserve happiness and I wanted them to have their HEA. The story is hot, emotional, with characters old and new that are reader favorites. Seeing the plans for the Dragon future makes a wonderful read.
Loved that were back in Lochguard definitely worth the wait. I enjoy everything about Alistair and Kiyana story it was not your typical love story. Their HEA had way more challengers than the previous couple. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
I received an ARC for an honest review.
Alistar and Kiyana sitting in a tree – k i s s i n g – oh wait, that would more apt to be the MacKenzies…This book had some tones from her beginnings with Sacrificing the Dragon and Seducing the Dragon…there is some angst between Alistar and Kiyana. There is definitely an attraction, sparks flying, all ending in “THE KISS.” As with all of her stories, there is angst, conflict, resolution, HEA and lately Jessie has been putting in a few epilogues for the “years in the future.” She is setting the stage for ending one generation and beginning another. This book was a great read, a great escape and a welcome to Lochguard, old friends, new friends and a great HEA.
Alistair Boyd made a promise three years ago to his dying girlfriend. He pledged to find a cure for her condition. Since that time, he has avoided women and relationships. His passion is research in the archives and teaching. Reading and researching can make a man old and grumpy even if that man is not yet thirty years old. Alistair’s mom, Meg Boyd, has been trying to matchmake for a while. She wants her baby boy to be happy and of course, more grandchildren. Meg is an interesting woman, a widow with two older boyfriends.
The Department of Dragon Affairs (DDA) is starting a new way of finding prospective mates for dragons. Instead of sending in one woman and hoping to generate interest, they are sending in a group of ten women with the support of Dr. Kiyana Barnes. She is supposed to help then understand and adjust to life in a dragon clan/society. After she fulfills her job she can then stay on and study the dragon clan and their archives for six months.
The Clan leader of Lochguard, Finlay Stewart, assigns Alistair to teach the ladies about dragons and their society. Meeting Kiyana is explosive. He cannot stop thinking of her. She is everything he could want in a mate and his dragon is obsessed. He kisses her and realizes that she is his true mate. He made a vow to his girlfriend but Kiyana could help him research. He will not succumb to the mate frenzy until he finds a cure.
Some dragon children are kidnapped and they need someone with expertise to look at a device found on the children. An unforeseen accident happens and Alistair and his dragon are in danger. He hopes he can gain control over his dragon in time.
I really enjoyed this book. Alistair was determined to seek a cure and keep his vow to his deceased girlfriend. Kiyana has had a dragonman boyfriend and almost lost her job because of that relationship. Can these two be more alike and perfect for each other? Can they work for a common goal and find love? This was a journey and I loved being back at Lochguard.
