After Jose Santos’s younger sister secretly enters them both into the yearly dragon lottery and they get selected, he begrudgingly agrees to participate. It means picking a human female from a giant room full of them and staying around just long enough to get her pregnant. However, when his dragon notices one female who keeps hiding behind a book, Jose has a new plan—win his fated mate, no matter … matter what it takes.
Victoria Lewis prefers being home with a book and away from large crowds. But she desperately wants to study dragon-shifters at close range, so she musters up her courage to enter the dragon lottery. When she’s selected as one of the potential candidates, she decides to accept her spot. After all, it’s not as if the dragon-shifter will pick her—an introverted bookworm who prefers jeans and sweats to skirts or fancy clothes. Well, until he’s standing right in front of her with flashing eyes and says he wants her.
As Jose tries to win his fated female, trouble stirs inside his clan. Will he be able to keep his mate with him forever? Or will the American Department of Dragon Affairs whisk her away to some other clan to protect her?
NOTE: This is a quick, steamy standalone story about fated mates and sexy dragon-shifters near Lake Tahoe in the USA. You don’t have to read all my other dragon books to enjoy this one!

From across the room
The author has brought her dragons to America, and I absolutely loved it. From the way she used the lottery to the attempts to show their displeasure, she was really able to capture the American way with each part of this book. This book is super steamy and super short with just that hint of excitement to keep the story interesting. I really enjoyed this newest venture to bring us dragons and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
This is not only the first book in the Tahoe Dragons Mates Series but it’s also the first time taking place in the United States. We’re heard a little about the US Dragons in different books here and there throughout Jessie’s Dragon books and now we get to read about those living in a dragon clan by Lake Tahoe.
This book is a little different in the fact that the family members actually enter to be in a lottery to find a person to help them repopulate the dragon species and possible find their mate. The winners are chosen by the American Department of Dragon Affairs, ADDA. The only catch is all unmated members of the family must enter in order for any family member to be considered. Jose Santos was not very happy about finding out that he and his sister were chosen since he didn’t even agree to be a part of it. However he reluctantly agrees so his sister, Gabi, can find her true mate and hopefully become pregnant.
Jose gets to pick one woman out of two hundred and he is so not into it until he spots a woman in the back who doesn’t seem like she wants to be there either and his curiosity is peaked.
Victoria Lewis prefers her dragonmen inside her book then in actually person but she also wants to learn as much as she can about the dragon clan. So when Jose notices her she has two choices. Allow herself to be chosen and agree to carry the dragonman’s baby or walk away and never truly understand them.
This is a hot quick read that once you start reading you won’t want to put down.
Dragon’s Choice
America! The Tahoe Dragon Shifters and the American Department of Dragon Affairs have agreed to a yearly lottery. Dragon females are not plentiful. To keep the species viable, they must interbreed with humans.
Jose Santos of Clan PineRock was entered into the lottery by his sister and they get accepted. Jose decides to go along with the lottery because his sister, Gabriela wants it. All he has to do is choose a female, get to know her a bit and get her pregnant, keep the baby and let her go. Imagine walking into a ballroom with hundreds of eager women. Jose is overwhelmed until he notices a woman in the back of the room. His dragon wants that one.
Victoria Lewis is curious about dragons. She is reading all about them in a book: Revealing the Dragons: The Day to Day lives of a British Shifter Clan. Tori did not expect to be chosen, yet this handsome dragonman is standing in front of her. She knows that romance is not required. Can they make this work?
This book is fast paced. I really enjoyed Jose and Tori’s adventure. This is just the start buckle up – there are many intriguing characters and I am hoping we get their stories too. Ashley Swift is a small powerhouse of a woman that represents the American Department of Dragon Affairs. Gaby Santos will soon get to choose her human in a lottery. Wes Dalton is the single Clan leader of Clan PineRock. Cristina Juarez the head Protector is another intriguing character. I am eager for MORE American dragons. I loved the British, Scottish, Welsh and Irish dragons, I have just fallen for the Americans.
Jose and Tori
U S Dragons–Yee Haw!
As much as I enjoy the Scottish and Irish dragons and their brogues, hearing about the US dragons is a whole new world. I won’t get into the details because you need to read all about them. The author does a wonderful job of threading in information about the differences from across the pond to these clans.
The human/dragon matches are different. It is a lottery system and that’s how Jose and Tori meet and match up. The threesome (Jose, his dragon & Tori) is a great match. The question is will everyone let them stay that way? It is touching, with strong characters, enemies, a new clan leader with a persona issue he can’t do anything about, another big family. Just so much to enjoy in so little time. I can’t wait to read more of the Tahoe Dragon Mates.
I absolutely loved this book. This was a sweet fast paced short story. Plenty of intrigue not much in the drama department but that didn’t take away from the story. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read and a great start for a new series. Looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series.
I read all of Jesse Donovan’s series about dragons. They are the best. Keep them coming Jesse.
Very enjoyable book, nice concept for a series.
Loved this first dragon book set in the USA. Although shorter in length than the the Stonefire and Lochguard books, the book is fast paced with plenty of drama and character interaction as the dragons entering the lottery get to choose their mates from a volunteer group of human candidates. Overall, choosing the mate is easy … the hard part its going back to the clan and meeting the family and the Santos family is everything you’d want in a large, boisterous family. The head of the Lake Tahoe clan is going to have his work cut out for him. The new series is spicy and an entertaining and enjoyable read. I am so looking forward to the next book.
