To me, Dragonriders of Pern is THE quintessential dragon series. Such fabulous world building, amazing characters, and an overarching storyline that spans sooo many books in this series. Two talons up!
I have read all of Anne’s Pern stories. They are wonderful. How any person’s mind can imagine such a world and keep such details is a wonder.
Dragons, telepathy and a hostile planet. What’s not to love? This is a really good series, combining fantasy with sci-fi. If you love Tamora Pierce and/or Mercedes Lackey, you’ll totally dig these.
The Pern series is one of the few classics I’ve read and enjoyed. This omnibus includes the first 3 books in the series, and those familiar with my …
Hard to believe it’s been well over 50 years since Dragons began to rule the skies in a serial in Analog Magazine. And nothing has come close equal Anne McCaffrey’s adventures on Pern since. If you haven’t read it quit messing around and enjoy it.
McCaffrey is one of the best and this book, covering the first three of her dragon books is a must. i have the three books as individual paperbacks, as a combo paperback set and now as a kindle set. Yes, They’re that good.
You cannot go wrong with this author if you want light fantasy.
Best dragon books
First book in the series. I now own all of them and their companion series. Wife enjoys them too.
Anne McCaffrey’s series of Pern Books bring dragons to life and the world they live in a complex series of intertwined stories that bring survival, life in fear of Thread as well as the bravery of the riders who fight thread and the jealousies of those who support those who do. One of the best series of dragon books ever written.
All of her Pern books are keepers!
Anne McCaffrey’s White Dragon was the first Sci-Fi/Fantasy book I read (not counting Tolkien’s Fellowship of the Ring in HS). I immediately got hooked and I have purchased and read all of the Pern novels and have reread them now that I am retired.
I love all of the Pern series. But this one started it for me. I have read it a dozen times, at least.
I’ve read the entire Dragonriders of Pern series over a stretch of years from when the first book came out. Re-reading this first set was a wonderful experience. I liked the books more than ever now some 30 years after I read the first book. Every book stands alone, and the order doesn’t really matter, since she didn’t write them in chronological …
Love the whole series!
I first read the Pern books as a teenager. Since then I’ve read the new books as they came out, but I re-read the first triology (and the Harper Hall books) every few years. This is such an original way to have dragons exist.
I loved the whole series and was very disappointed when the series ended. I fell in love with the dragons and the riders who belonged with the dragons The residents of Pern developed the most unusual relationships in which they and the dragons are imprinted on each others’ minds and they could not stand to be separated. I read these so long ago …
I am now reading the entire series
A new world to explore. I enjoyed the series.
Great!
This is the only series of books I’ve ever read twice! Archaeology and fantasy. Best combo ever.
