“There’s never a dull moment with these dragons. Fighting! Mayhem! Danger! . . . a fun read” from the New York Times bestselling author (Vampire Book Club). I was raised for battle. And as the first daughter of a warrior family, I’ve earned my reputation the hard way. Yet now I fight alongside uncivilized male Northland dragons who think a female is only good for breeding and waiting back home … good for breeding and waiting back home in the cave. But it’s the foolish and foolhardy who would try to stop me, Rhona the Fearless, from doing what I do best—destroying the enemies of my kind.
So the smartest thing wily barbarian Vigholf the Abhorrent can do for me is stay out of my way as we risk all on a deadly mission in enemy territory. I don’t care if he’s fascinated by me, even though he is as attractive as he is resourceful. He’s having far too much fun putting me in difficult situations and testing my sense of duty to the limit. And I’m going to enjoy challenging his insufferable confidence, outwitting his schemes, and making him surrender in the wildest ways . . .

The title suggests a James-Bond-ish story when this is nothing of the sort. It is more like Sergeant Slaughter (in female form) meets Beowulf. Such mayhem and romance ensues as a barbarian tries to show her true value to a female who believes that she will never live up to her mother’s expectations. That will teach me to judge a romantic by his outer lack of suaveness!
This author writes the best paranormal romances. The women are strong and assertive, the men arrogant and beautiful. The plot lines are intricate and the action never stops. Each story stands on its own but the stories together make a coherent, unique world.
G.A. Aiken is a MASTER at fantasy romantic comedy. This whole series is a MUST READ.
For not remembering this couple I really enjoyed this book. Rhona the Fearless was a kickass female who cared for everyone, hence the nickname Babysitter. Vigholf the Abhorrent was still hungry, stubborn Northlander, who was always trying to protect the women. I really liked him. He instantly wanted Rhona but knew he had to woo her to get anywhere, unfortunately she doesn’t understand subtle things like that and just thought he was annoying for years. These two were perfect for each other.
The war with the Iron’s finally end in this one, after five years. It was interesting seeing the other race of dragons and how they differ from the Fire and Lightnings. I can’t wait to see more of them in the future, especially Giaus and Aggrippa.
Annwyl was so fierce but also a little broken in this one. The five years of fighting have taken a toll on her body but mostly her mind. She misses her twins, Fearghus, and home. But the biggest issue is that she needs to sleep. I liked that even though she is a very strong and capable female she can still show her vulnerability, especially at the end when she finally sees her kids again. She is still my favorite because of how crazy and caring she is.
I can’t wait to see what will come of the new alliance with the Irons.
Rhona and Vigholf… I didn’t really have a lasting impression of Rhona before this book, but I did of Vigholf and I was happy to see another Lightning get a book so soon. It was quite a roller coaster of a story though, with so much war and scary things going on in the sidelines of their romance. We get to see how the twins and Rhian have grown and a bit of what they are capable of. We get to see some more of Keita and Ragnar along with most of the characters from all the previous books. We even get to see the gods messing with the family again. At the end, we finally learn what had sent Eibhear off the deep end and I’m VERY anxious for his book!
Vigholf the Abhorrent, brother to Ragner the Cunning, has found a female he’s crazy about. Sadly she thinks that he’s a pain in the butt. Though Vigholf believes that he can change her opinion.
Rhona the Fearless of the Cadwalder clan can’t seen to get away from Vigholf and his barbarian beliefs. Unfortunately they end up on a crazy mission together that will change their lives.
I also recommend all the rest of the authors series. G.A. Aiken/Shelly Laurenston
