Another fantastic book in the series. I feel that Robert Jordan was still experimenting with the structure of the book in all three books so far. This one seemed to be more defined in terms of storytelling. The storytelling is divided into groups like the previous book too but it is different in a way that every two or three chapters we follow the same group which makes the events more focused and significant.
“Kill a man who needs killing, and sometimes others pay for it. The question is, was it worth doing it anyway? There’s always a balance, you know. Good and evil. Light and Shadow. We would not be human if there wasn’t a balance.”
One thing you will notice is that despite the title is The Dragon Reborn, Rand was hardly there in this book. He was there at the beginning and a little bit in the end. This is not a bad thing as it seems this book wanted to make the other main characters under the spotlight. The main plot in this book is the fulfillment of one of The Dragon’s prophecies that says that only The Dragon Reborn can hold and use Callandor which is a crystal sword and the only known artifact being able to amplify the True Power.
I liked most of the characters here. Mat with his dice, new luck, and his long tongue is so adorable and funny all the time. He could be just walking alone and his inner voice says all those crazy funny things. Perrin is another character that showed a lot of maturity. I liked how he stood up for his own principles and his interaction with the new character Zarine (His Falcon) was something to look for in the future as I can sense some strong hidden chemistry there.
“Just because fate has chosen something for you instead of you choosing it for yourself doesn’t mean it has to be bad.”
The girls, Nynaeve, Egwene, and Elayne are as crazy as they were. At some point, they decide to become the hunters and take revenge for what they suffered in the second book. The Amyrlin Seat grants them her trust recruits the three for a mission. Verin also gives Egwene something very important that affects how the events turn out.
This third book is filled with events and shows us a lot about these characters. I feel by just reading three books I know them very well and understand their actions even if I can’t agree with some. I am sure Robert Jordan has more surprises for me in the next book which I can’t wait to start. Like the first two books, this one too is filled with fun and epicness. It is extremely grand!
“I am Rand al’Thor!” he called, so his voice rang through the chamber. “I am the Dragon Reborn!”
One of the finest examples of fantasy literature. Robert Jordan was a master storyteller.
I could hardly put it down
The second of Jordan’s middle six that just knock the series out of the park. Amazing how such a long book could grab you and not let you go.
Love Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. It’s most excellent world building at it’s finest. Great character building and story threading throughout the book.
Definitely my favourite book in the series, and I love the whole set.
Really enjoyed this series. Waiting for them to come out was a pain. Unfortunately te last 2 books did not have exactly the same feel. Theý were good and completed the story, but not the same.
