Gabriel has been in the human realm for 300 years, since the day his family was betrayed, and his mother magically sent him and his siblings out of Paragon to the human realm to save their lives. He had lived a quiet life, until he met a terrible voodoo priestess, with a thirst for power.
Crimson is a legend in New Orleans, and she has her sights set on Gabriel and his power. She has propositioned him and every time he turned her down. Now she has cursed Gabriel and if he doesn’t figure out how to break the curse by Mardi Gras, he will turn to stone and those that are bound to him will die.
Then he sees Ravenna Tanglewood’s picture in the paper and he is drawn to her. However, she is dying of terminal brain cancer. She is literally on death’s door when Gabriel finds her, and they make a bargain, he will save her life, and she will work for him. In Dragon speak… that means he owns her. Neither will understand what this bargain will truly entail and what it will cost until much later.
I was enthralled by the characters and the storyline. The characters’ backstory and how everything began and then started to tie together kept me on the edge of my seat, I couldn’t stop turning pages as I watched everything unfold.
I enjoyed the chemistry between Gabriel and Raven, and I think this was a fabulous start to a new series. And although it is in Gabriel’s very nature as a dragon to be controlling and take what he wants, he treats Raven with respect and care. Swoon….
In Dragon of New Orleans, Genevieve Jack created a world of betrayal, secrets and magic that was a fantastic escape, and I will be continuing the series.
I definitely recommend this book and I am off to read book 2! Happy reading!
lots of unexpected twists
I enjoyed the characters. The dragon shifter characteristic were very creative. Loved the New Orleans setting as it lends itself to magic! Love complicates and conquers all in a surprising turn. I got a bit teary eyed at one point!
Dragon’s baby, dragons!!!!!!
Add in New Orleans and I just couldn’t resist this book. I am deliciously happy I picked it up…lol dragons, witches and demons oh my…
Gabriel’s Library omg I want to move into that room and never leave…lol
Gabriel is a typical dragon…lol all fire but not much bite when they find the right woman but if you try to hurt his woman lookout…
Raven Tanglewood I love her name, I loved her family history it meshed so well into the story and brought it all to life for me.
There wasn’t anything I did not love about this book.
This was so good I had to read the next book in series. Can’t wait to get the third book.
Great read!!
I’m hooked.
Wonderful book cant wait to. Read the next in the series.
I love this book. I only wish it was longer! The author gives us the story of a Dragon and seven of his siblings who have been cast from their home and forced to separate. Dragon??? Sign me up. She had me at Dragon. Gabriel is sexy and charming and, of course, lumbering under a curse that just might end his life. And he is running out of time. Enter our heroine, Raven, who knows what it is to live under a death sentence. She is delightfully brave, curious as a damned cat, and has a bonafide talent for attracting trouble. She also has other talents that DO come in handy in this story, if she could only just get a handle on them. The world building and all the side characters kept me turning pages as much as the romance between these two main characters.
Ms. Jack delivers a well written, well structured, well paced read and sets the stage for the books to come. I can’t wait to get my hands on The Windy City Dragon up next. If you are fans of Kresely Cole, Sherrilyn Kenyon, or Jennifer Blake and are between books, you really need to check out these Dragon books. Start with this one, The Dragon of New Orleans!
Imaginative. Suspenseful. Exciting. What a ride! The Dragon has landed! 🙂
Magic, adventure, and romance fly off the pages of The Dragon of New Orleans! Gripping from the very first page the action is almost nonstop in this book. I was wrapped up in a world full of dragons, witches, and falling absolutely in love with every bit of it. There was just so much to this book. So much emotion. So much suspense. So much love. It truly is magical!
Raven is one of the strongest characters I’ve ever read. She is the definition of a fighter even when she doesn’t realize just how strong she is herself. The things she has been through made her into a woman who truly wants to live life free and a woman who loves fiercely. Gabriel has a lot to learn when it comes to her, not only for his issues but also for the sake of his heart. The connection they have is as breathtakingly powerful as every heart stopping moment of shock that comes along.
This book truly is an adventure that starts the beginning of this incredible world and I cannot wait for more!
This is a new author to me and I want more!! She has such a way about her writing that just makes you feel like you are there and living through the characters. She had such a delicious cover model on her cover that I was instantly drawn to the book. Gabriel is racing against the clock to break his curse set on him by the voodoo priestess of New Orleans. Ravenna is dying from brain cancer and in her final days she is visited by what she perceives as “Death” but it is really Gabriel. He gives her the “cure” and she miraculously recovers but now she is bound to him. He convinces her to help him in his plight to get rid of the curse that the voodoo priestess has placed on him. All the while Raven thinks she just a plain human but she is much, much more. Will they break the curse in time? Will the slow burn they feel for each other withstand the paranormal forces fighting against them? I can’t wait to read more by this author! I highly recommend this book!!
Raven is dying from cancer – and her time is almost up when Gabriel visits her hospital room and pulls a tooth from his mouth and has a dying Raven swallow it – unknowingly bonding herself to a dragon. When she starts getting miraculously better, she thinks it was a dream. When he requests that she work for him, she agrees to help him.
I loved this romance and I loved Gabriel and Raven. The romance burns slowly, and the suspense on if Raven can help save Gabriel will keep you glued to the pages. The author did a great job with not only the main characters, but with the secondary characters also. A few good twists that start in the back half of the book may surprise you. This is a series that I’ll be looking forward to reading more of. Reviewed by Cyrene
This book was a little different. Usually there is the meet up, the conflict, the resolution and the HEA. In this story we meet the H then we’re introduced to the h. The plot line is interesting and the characters were complicated. All of this made for a very entertaining and action packed story. The storyline was intriguing and altogether enjoyable! I highly recommend this book.
Wow. This book had a lot happening. It was full to the brim of action and romance. It started off fast and never slowed down. I enjoyed it. I liked the characters and dialog. The story was interesting. I even liked all the ideas. What I had a difficult time with was that I never got a chance to savor anything. I didn’t get a chance to really connect with the protagonists. I never got deeply emotionally invested. And that’s fine. I don’t need it to be completely original to be entertaining – world building, plot, etc.
I WANTED to be invested. I took a long time to get around to reading it, and when I did, I was left a little…not invested…a little wanting. Not enough to give it less than 4 stars, but also not worth 5 to me. It almost feels like there are two books worth of story in one book. Phenomenal Cosmic Power – Itty Bitty Living Space!
There are a bunch of books in this series, and I’m looking forward to reading the more.
Interesting story.
This book wasn’t bad but parts were so unrealistic that it stretched the imagination. I found the main characters responses to things child-like and without thought sometimes. The author not only asked the characters to make giant leaps of belief but asked the reader to do this as well.
I’ve not read this author before but I’m glad I downloaded a free copy when it was offered! I loved this book!
For me, this was a page-turner I couldn’t put down until the end, then I was sorry it was done.
The twists and turns, the character interactions, the romance – of which there was some steam, and the world-building was fantastic.
In my opinion, this is a book worth reading!
