From Obsidian, Book 1:Seventeen-year-old Aspen is a skydiving, rock climbing, adrenaline junky. All her life, she’s been fascinated by the dragons who roam near her home in Yellowstone Park. Yes, Dragons. Though no human has ever gotten close enough to touch one.Except Aspen. While most people avoid the national parks because of the resident dragons, Aspen spends most of her free time in search of … her free time in search of the feared and misunderstood creatures. For her, studying the dragons is a way to escape a painful past and avoid getting too close to anyone.
She’d rather track dragons in the wild and through the lens of her camera than talk to real people. But then Aspen meets a hot new guy at school, Sid King. He’s the one person she’s ever met who shares her obsession with all things dragon. But even as she feels strangely drawn to the mysterious boy, she senses he’s hiding his own set of dark and powerful secrets.
When hikers start turning up dead in the park, everyone suspects the formidable predators. Unless Aspen can prove their innocence, every one of her beloved dragons is in danger of eradication.
After Aspen and Sid uncover a sinister plot behind the brutal attacks, Aspen can no longer deny that Sid somehow knows more about the deaths than he should and the secrets they both keep threaten to rip their lives apart forever.

Praise for Obsidian:
This book was great. Aspen and Sid are like the kids next door except that one is a dragon king and the other is dragon obsessed. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series!–David B.
Dragons! Need I say more? But seriously, a great YA romance revolving around these magical creatures. Likable characters with depth. I love that it’s modern day but with dragons.–Devour Books

The Dragon Kings series are 5 captivating books set in a world where Dragons and humans coexist; one of fiery kings, fierce females, shapeshifting dragons, battles, romance, twists and intrigue. Each book in the series hooks you more and more and you easily fall in love with the characters. The narrator does a great job of the different accents and voices and she really brings out the action and emotions in the story. I loved all the different characters, the action, relationships and the bitter sweet ending to the series. This 5-book set is an excellent buy.
The Dragon King Series is a epic tale of good vs evil in adventurist proportions with shapeshifting dragons. A urban fantasy realm rich in vivid history details, description settings, and swirling with multifarious twists. With compelling characters that have complex personalities. Runa was my favourite supporting character. Told in multi-pov creating a euphoria effect. With multifacted characters consisting of dragons, humans and witches in a protagonist realm. The writing style of this author is unparallel in the urban fantasy genre and focuses on creating a cosmos that is organic and highly addictive. I absolutely love this beautiful narrative and escaping to this realm. A well designed series that draws you into this fantasy realm.
The ending is attained with a epilogue solving the mystery and putting all the pieces together.
Narator Angela Rysk performance wasn’t as smooth as it could have been. Pauses in places where there shouldn’t have been and odd noises. It didn’t flow through smoothly as it should have. Her ability to use multi articulation did work in her favor. However, with the numerous oodles of character’s I think this series requires multiple narators to give it the best performance. I was intrigued and revel in listening to this audiobook series. As, a narator Angela Rysk exhubes the enthusiasm of urban fantasy and I would definitely listen to her again.

really liked it
The Dragon Kings 5 book collection by Kimberly Loth and narrated by Angela Rysk are books I requested and the review is voluntary.
1. Obsidian- This starts out giving the overview of the characters, basic Dragon rules and hints at more dangerous ones, and interactions of the characters. Obsidian becomes the new King of all dragons when his father suddenly decides to retire early. His brother is his mentor, which means he has the job of teaching him about human life. Obsidian has to spend 10 years as a human before he is crowned. He is not to become involved with girls too. Too late! He ends up pretending to be a high school senior. Lots of interesting characters introduced.
A dragon is killing people. The girl Obsidian likes, Aspen, goes into the field to take pictures of dragons. She is putting herself in danger.
Obsidian starts breaking more rules for Aspen, his girl. Him being King does not make him above the law. 4/5
2.Aspen – This book is more intense and because more know about the binding marks on Obsidian and Aspen they must come up with a plan that keeps them alive. They come up with one but before they can finish, things go sideways! I liked this one more. Much more exciting and interesting. 5/5.
3. Valentine – This is how Aspen’s sister, Hazel, meets Val while on a plane home to hunt for her missing brother. Hazel is totally opposite of her sister and has no love of dragons. She also doesn’t want a commitment. But it is a long flight from Hawaii! Lots of action, tension, and intrigue going on in here. Besides trying to find what happened to their brother, there is still a man eating Dragon on the loose!
There is also the start of the Dragon war. Two black dragons have come forward. The ancients told of three black dragons to defeat the North white witch!
The ending was a nice surprise! 4/5.
4. Skye – In the book Skye, Aspen and Hazel’s brother finally showing up. He was with Skye. Skye had turned colors and she had questions so she wanted to travel to find some older dragons. Rowen, the missing brother, is thought to be dead by the family. Meanwhile Skye and Rowen were not having fun and got too close for comfort to the white witch! The war is really starting to rumble! Skye and Rowen’s romance is slow to come to a boil! 4/5.
5. Kings- This book is the exciting and challenging war between Dragon and witch, and dragons and humans. The aftermath of the war, who made it through, who didn’t, and what happened to those who survived. A good ending to the books. 5/5
Overall- I enjoyed the world building, the great characters, and the dialogue. The plot was pretty good too. The books were all 4-5 stars.
What was a big downfall was the narration.Rowen sounded similar to one of the munchkins on The Wizard of Oz! All the female sounded the same so I just had to go by the author’s clues. The child Dragon sounded like Rowen a bit so it was crazy at times. The others two men sounded the same. I have listened to this narrator before and she was very good, unsure and won’t guess the problem here. The problem was not enough of an issue for me to stop just annoying at times.
The MC was excessively annoying. Arrogant, especially in her treatment of her family and friends.
Her best friend is totally obsessive, and no one notices or minds?
And of course, the overly-handsome new boy is totally smitten ….
What finally turned me off, though, was 1) mystic words on a mystic tattoo, and even after wondering several times what they mean, no one looks them up, and 2) the totally egregious “cliff hanger” at the end of the first book. I found I just couldn’t read any more.
This being said, if you don’t mind these simplistic, contrived plot devices, not a bad idea, and the story flows easily enough.
Could not put it down. A fun fantasy read!
Like the main character in this boxed set, I kind of have a thing for dragons. I expected that I would have to wade through a lot of dreck to get to the good parts about dragons. I was thrilled to find out that I was wrong.
The author came up with a novel way to have humans to interact with dragons, and has created an entire dragon world. I found it fascinating.
This is not classic literature: there are plenty of clichés, Dei ex machina, and supernatural rescues. But it was good fun and hours of entertainment.
The idea of this story is interesting, however, the writing is terrible. The author has a hard time keeping track of time. She also has a hard time with interaction with characters. I read until chapter 7 and had to stop. It was just not well written.
My so loved it and heaters to read
The story was good, but the heroine was so STUPID I was hoping she would be the one killed. That’s why I gave it three stars. Not because the heroine was killed, but because the rest of the story was ok. So if you can get past the fact that a woman actually wrote this story and made the girl in it look like a total and complete moron. Then I guess you might like the story.
