Unusual story but it blends nicely. Good Read. Read start to finish.
Dragons are uncooperative at best, but when they come after you ready to destroy you, you must do something unpredictable in order to survive. To vanquish the dragon, you must be sold out on your unpredictable behavior and jump into it wholeheartedly. Brynn calls herself an elemental; the villagers call her a witch. Her mother, now deceased, was a quarter-blood and each generation inherits one less gift from the gifted parent. Brynn’s gifts are two. One, she is immune to fire. In fact, fire energizes her. Her body and soul feast on fire. Two, Brynn can dreamwalk. Her soul can project itself into the realms that others only dream about. When the fire-breathing dragon comes to destroy Brynn, the villagers leave her staked out to help him do it. But Brynn cannot be vanquished by dragon fire. I got a little impatient with her stubbornness and her inability to think things through before committing to them, but overall it’s a pretty good story.
It’s just the kind of book enjoy
Great story.
Fairies and dragons are favorites among those who enjoy fantasy adventures and romances. Elizabeth Rose has a talent for taking familiar characters and stories from fairy tales, myths, and fantasy and giving them a little twist, just enough to make them a little different and much more interesting. The Dragon and the Dreamwalker is no exception. Part of the story is rather common for a Medieval story; Drake has taken her father’s castle and lands, and Brynn wants to find a way to take them back. Drake’s original goal in coming to Thorndale Castle was to find Brynn. He believes her to be the lady of fire who is destined to help him conquer Dracos, a dragon that plagues the nearby village (eating all the virgins), and is somehow connected to Drake. In order to succeed, they must work together; they must become one each other so that her power will join with him to defeat the dragon. How they will accomplish that when Drake and Brynn can’t even stand to be in the same room, let alone join in any way? How will they discover how Drake is connected to the dragon and how to defeat it before it consumes him?
Action, adventure, drama, betrayal, and treachery abound in this one, but it is the characters that draw you in and keep your attention. Brynn is fae and human. She is an elemental; fire is her strength. Her story of the history and evolution of the elemental fae is fascinating. Her second power, dreamwalking (astral projection), is instrumental in coming to know her husband and finding a way to defeat the dragon. Drake has a dark and painful past that is responsible for his quest to destroy Dracos. Stubborn and angry, it takes a while for him to understand how and why he is connected to Dracos, and what he must do to win this battle. These two are not alone. Drake’s squire Asad is on hand to protect him and give him advice about romance. Birdie, Brynn’s maid, tries to help and take care of her. Her inability to keep a secret both helps and hinders. These two add a good bit of humor to the story. Juturna, seer and healer, tends their wounds and nudges them toward the answers they seek. I recommend this compelling story with rambunctious characters. This is the first in the series and I look forward to meeting Brynn’s friends.
The Dragon and the Dreamwalker
Elizabeth Rose
I loved the first book in the Elemental Magic series, beginning with Brynn and Drake’s story. It was a very powerful story about personal demons and how they can get control of oneself so easily. Forgiveness is not always about absolution for the guilty but rather closure for the victims. In order to stop the dragon from its destructive force, Drake had to learn to control the demons of his past. At the same time, Brynn had to learn to forgive the ones responsible for the deaths of her parents, not for their benefit but so she could move on with her life with Drake. It was no simple feat for either one of them. It was a very emotional story particularly the ending. There aren’t many stories that move me quite like this one did but I was literally moved to tears during the struggle between good and evil. The lengths that each of the lead characters went to save the other was extraordinary and would rarely happen. That, in my opinion, is the true definition of love. If I could give this one more than 5 stars, I would be because it was that good and this type of genre usually isn’t my favorite type to read. I will, however, be reading the other ones in the series.
Tragic only in the sense of so much back-stabbing and distrust between various characters, which is part of the story, but made me ultimately sad. So other than there aren’t dragons in the real world (anymore?), the characters are very realistic, with realistic emotions.
If you are into mythology and like books featuring Faeries and Dragon, you will love this book.
I’m sorry but this one was not for me.
Brynn is the element of fire and some say she is a witch.
Lord Drake Pendragon saves her from being a virgin sacrifice to the Dragon.
Drake thinks Brynn is the answer he needs to slay the dragon.
