Sequel to The Doctor’s SecretCopper Point Medical: Book Two The hospital’s least eligible bachelor and its aloof administrator hate each other… so why are they pretending to date?Dr. Owen Gagnon and HR director Erin Andreas are infamous for their hospital hallway shouting matches. So imagine the town’s surprise when Erin bids an obscene amount of money to win Owen in the hospital bachelor … money to win Owen in the hospital bachelor auction—and Owen ups the ante by insisting Erin move in with him.
Copper Point may not know what’s going on, but neither do Erin and Owen. Erin intends his gesture to let Owen know he’s interested. Owen, on the other hand, suspects ulterior motives—that Erin wants a fake relationship as a refuge from his overbearing father.
With Erin suddenly heading a messy internal investigation, Owen wants to step up and be the hero Erin’s never had. Too bad Erin would rather spend his energy trying to rescue Owen from the shadows of a past he doesn’t talk about.
This relationship may be fake, but the feelings aren’t. Still, what Erin and Owen have won’t last unless they put their respective demons to rest. To do that, they’ll have to do more than work together—they’ll have to trust they can heal each other’s hearts.

Have you ever read a book where one of the secondary characters is a complete jerk, and then the next in the series comes out and you realize HE is the one who is the hero? Yeah….I’m usually not all that fired up for the sequel…but I love Heidi Cullinan’s writing and figured that if anyone could pull it off, she would be the one.
And she did. Owen Gagnon, anesthesiologist at St. Ann’s Medical Center in Copper Point is known as Owen the Ogre for his unrelenting bad mood and rude behavior. He really is a jerk. An excellent and caring doctor, he has no time for anyone not on his very short list of friends—except for Erin Andreas, hospital administrator and son of the head of the powerful hospital board of directors. He and Erin argue over everything—arguments loud and acrimonious enough to firmly cement Owen’s reputation as a surly and unlikeable guy. An image he works hard to maintain. The man does have his standards.
But when Owen is coerced into taking a spot as one of the bachelors to be auctioned off at a hospital fundraiser, and Erin bids $25,000 for him, the tables are turned. Owen figures that Erin is looking for a refuge from his overbearing father, and convinces Erin to move in with him and his roommate. Erin knows that Owen has something serious in his past, and he hopes to help him come to terms with his history, but as the two men get to know each other, they begin to build an emotional connection neither expected.
This book has a terrific plot with one of the best endings ever, a true “feel good” exorcism of the protagonists’ ghosts, and a satisfying resolution to a beautifully conceived and executed mystery. I really enjoyed this one, and yes, I’m looking forward to the next in the series. Watch for THE DOCTOR’S ORDERS. I’ve already preordered mine because I want this author’s books in print. They’re definitely the kind of stories I love to re-read!
This is everything you want from a fake-dating enemies to lovers story, and more.
Both men have so much in the past that don’t even include secret crushes that it is amazing they are functioning at all. Erin has turn his pain into himself and Owen has let his pain become a shield that keeps people away. This just leads to clashes but their interactions are different with each other and this is the seed that grows. Each wants to help the other heal and they each find strength within themselves. The power of these men to overcome abuse and neglect gives a feeling of hopefulness.
Other than knowing I’d get a great story (& I did) I didn’t know what would happen next with the characters. It’s a wonderful addition to the series. Hugs, Z.
The first book in the Copper Point Medical series, The Doctor’s Secret was sweet and funny and full of all the feels. But I knew that book two which features the “ogre” on staff, Owen, and the feisty HR director Owen loves to spar with, Erin Andreas., was going to be wild and Cullinan did not disappoint.
The chemistry between these two, then the issues they wrestle with, and the subplot involving the hospital…needless to say, don’t start reading this late at night unless you can see it through. There was so much imagery to sink into. The emotions envelop the reader and yet they never felt overwhelming. It amazes me that this book dealt with such heavy issues but never felt like an ugly cry book, which it seriously could have been. I appreciate that it wasn’t. The thread of hope woven throughout keeps this potentially triggering story one that keeps you engaged and rooting for the positive outcome.
Can’t wait for book three, which was cleverly hinted at in this book!
A rating…I love this group of doctors and hospital personnel that are becoming a great circle of friends. It was a great read and I can’t wait for the final book in the series. So far, both of the first two have been amazing (although you can easily read either one as a stand alone).
OMG where to start! This book ticked off everything I like in a book… Exceptional characters. Unusual Characters. Not your unusual knight in shining armor but an Ogre(given a sexy, hot Ogre) a shy, wealthy man that is not afraid of the Ogre. Several connected story lines, a unique story, and a twist.
I mean a story that starts out telling how the main character fell in love with a guy at first sight then the back story begins at a teen telling a bit of a story that shows him meeting the leading man fantasizing about him being an ogre that steals him away ( this is important later in the book), how he makes some close friends and how he cowers to his dad…Fast forward to the present where Erin(yes I spelled this correctly and another cute bit of backstory) Is the Hr director at St Ann’s in Copper Point, His dad is president of the board, Everyone sees him as stiff and stays away thinking he is like his dad…Except Owen the Ogre whom every one fears and cows down to…Except Erin. And as bad as Owen may sound, he is very likeable character as his backstory unfolds you can’t help but fall in love. There are many more characters, some from the first book and it would be good to read the first one as some things are mentioned but you can enjoy this quite well as a standalone.
The blurb tells you all you need to know. If you like Dr’s, anesthesiologists, Nurses, CEO’s Office personnel, wealthy men, Millionaires, Ogres, Shy men, sweet romance, sexy sensual love scenes that are not overly explicit but smoking hot, a touch of mystery and a twist and an ending to die for, read this!
The Doctor’s Date by Heidi Cullinan is book 2 in the Copper Point Medical series and my favorite for now. I thought Heidi couldn’t do better than Hung-Wei and Simon, whom I loved so much, but damn! I didn’t expect Owen and Erin.
Owen is the only anaesthesiologist in St. Ann’s hospital. He’s also known as being grouchy, harsh and blunt. He’s the ogre of Copper Point as he refers to himself. Owen’s also loyal to the people he loves, and he protects them fiercely, no one mess with Owen’s loved ones. I completely adored Owen since book 1. I loved his hard temper and his fierceness when it comes to his friend. I suspected that Owen had a rough start in life, I didn’t expect how awful it was for him, and I was outraged and hurt for him. I adored him, and I loved how he took care of Erin, how he protected him, how he loved him. *swoon*
Erin is the HR Director at St. Ann’s hospital. He’s also the son of the council board president, John Jean Andreas. Erin seems uptight, cold, and ready to follow his bigot of a father everywhere. He seems to be the puppet of the board, spreading their discriminatory and hateful rules. But Erin is nothing that he seems to be, and little by little Owen and his friends meet the real Erin. Oh, Erin is adorable, I was surprised by him, by who he really is. My heart broke when I read about his childhood, about his life, and I was so sad for him. But Erin is stronger than what I thought. I completely melted for him, he was a real surprise for me, and I adored him. *melted*
The plot is around Owen and Erin’s story, but also about something really fishy about the hospital. It was built slowly between them; they didn’t jump into bed right after the auctions. The author makes them take their times to get to know each other better, to tame each other. It was well written, full of emotions and beautiful moments.
Heidi Cullinan’s outdone herself with those two beautiful men. They were perfect for each other. They took me with them on their incredible journey, and I couldn’t put my kindle down until I finished the book and then at the end, I was torn between tears of happiness for them or tears of sadness because I had to let them go.
1 Million stars for the Ogre and his little princess!
