Suspenseful. Intense. Addictive. Lots of shocking twists and turns. Cleverly-done story line. Enjoyed IMMENSELY! Would have been a 5-star read, but found the definite need for better editing a distraction.
The Doctor: A Chilling Psychological Thriller by Erica R Stinson is a really great book to read.I an so glad I read this book it kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I recommend this book to all who like to read about suspense and thrillers.

WHOA! This one took a turn I was not expecting, especially after the opening chapters. Those chapters are raw and emotional, so you are warned, you will get angry at the actions of one character, and feel justified with what happens to them. But hang onto your seats because the story is not exactly what you are expecting as you get into the meat of it.
Dr. Oliver Perritt is the consummate paragon, rich, focused, benevolent, sociopathic. His Administrative Assistant Julia is his perfect complement. The devastation they visit on others in their private Hospital is a psychological torment that few would ever want to experience. More than that I will not say, as it would include spoilers, and you want to experience every word and plot for yourself. I highly recommend this book and the audible. The narration is right on the money.
I listened to this on Audible as an Arc and listened straight through today, I couldn’t walk away.
This story was very disturbing. The author did a great job creating some dimented characters. When I first started this story I had no idea the story would end up where it did. Poor Oliver had a horrible childhood. The disgusting orphanage that he lived in started him on his twisted journey. His final conversation with the head mistress before leaving was going to be a turning point for him I thought. It was but in a different direction than I thought. Then the story shifted to Avery who got abducted. When she woke she had no idea what hospital she was in. She was under constant guard & soon learned things were going to happen to her and she wouldn’t be able to stop them. Oliver thought he was using Avery to help people but Avery knew he was a horrible person. A story that will shock you.
When I got the opportunity to read and advance copy of The Doctor, I assumed it was going to be your typical psychological thriller, and the first part of the book confirmed my belief. However, the story took a shift in time and suddenly I was in a story that wasn’t what I anticipated, not that this was a bad thing, in fact the shift in the story hooked me right off the bat and held me captive throughout the rest of the story. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author. I received a review copy through StoryOrigin and chose to provide this review.
After years of abuse, Oliver’s life seems to have turned around. Now a well to do doctor and philanthropist, things look rosy on the surface, but abuse takes its toll… now Avery is living the nightmare of his making.
Erica R. Stinson has written a chilling tale. Though slow in a few spots, overall I couldn’t put this book down.
J. Bruce McRell’s narration was very consistent throughout. I didn’t always feel the sense of urgency, but I was definitely entertained.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
I really enjoyed this suspenseful book. I listened to
an Audible version from Story Origin. This is my voluntary review.
Oliver has a very abusive childhood in a foster home. He grows up to have serious issues. Avery is kidnapped and wakes up a captive in a hospital. Why? Can she escape? There are others. What is going on? I really couldn’t put this down.
I was enjoying the narration. He was easy to understand, nice voice, and read at a perfect pace. Then, as it was getting more and more suspenseful, he didn’t get excited or emotional or faster. I feel he could have improved my enjoyment with more emotion.
The book starts in 1968 with a young handicapped boy being abused in an orphanage by the stereotypical matron. Years later young women are disappearing in New York City. Avery goes out with friends after work and disappears from the restroom in a bar. Has she become one of these women? She wakes up chained to the bed in a hospital, told that the doctor will see her soon. Lo and behold the doctor is the same young boy from the orphanage, all grown up and wealthy, a well respected doctor. I enjoyed this book but I wasn’t blown away by it. It had a good story line but it was slow in places. I listened to the audiobook. The narrator does a good job in a news reporter way but he could have shown a little more emotion in places. Avery and her boyfriend Josh were good characters. The detectives did not impress me much. The doctor and his staff were appropriately cruel and creepy. The last third of the book really picked up the pace and did grab my attention. The twists in this part were good and I enjoyed the ending. Not a bad book. I received a copy of the audiobook from StoryOrigins.
A truly intense psychological thriller. The characters are robust and their backstories are riveting. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you reading.
An incredibly intense story that starts right out with a bang and does not stop. The story caught me and would not let me go. An amazing story that gave me nightmares and great characters, scary and good! Loved this thriller

I enjoyed the storyline in this book. For the most part it was interesting and suspenseful. The reader does have to buy into a huge stroke of luck for one character, the likes of which I’ve never actually heard of happening in real life… but it’s a novel. I can live with that. However, for me there were both inconsistencies and things I just wasn’t buying and it took me out of the story. An example of an inconsistency is talking about a room with dark corners (which implies that the room is rather dark and shadowy), and then someone is blinded by the light from the room when they open the door to go in. Something I wasn’t buying was when a character goes for a jog in Central Park at night, and then when something happens a whole group of witnesses appears. Really? Jogging and coming forth as witnesses aren’t the kinds of behavior I associate with anyone in Central Park at night. (I was surprised to note that the author lives in NY.) Then there were other things that happened where there should have been witnesses (e.g. in a grocery store), but there weren’t any. Maybe that doesn’t bother you and that’s fine – maybe I’m too picky. But then the sentence structure would slow me down. Example: “…clients he had already were indebted…” He already had them or they were already indebted? At times the author was writing about two different male characters and then would say “he”. Which “he”? There were several sentences I had to read over again in order to get their meaning. Please let me be clear that in essence the story was pretty good, and I give credit to any author who has an idea and actually manages to write an entire book. I did read an ARC, so hopefully a lot of this has been cleared up before final publication. With some clean up – which may have happened by now – this would be a decent read. That’s my honest review in exchange for receiving a free copy of the book.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It was indeed packed with so many twist and turns I got dizzy. The book read smoothly with minimal grammatical/spelling errors. These did not take away the thrill of “whats next?” in any way. Would recommend to any of my psychological thriller friends.

The Doctor is a great psychological thriller. Avery’s night out with friends becomes a nightmare when she wakes in a hospital, no recollection of how she got there and now, they won’t let her go. Stinson had me reading this nail-biter well into the night as the drama unfolded in this exciting page turner. The novel is an entertaining, quick read. The Doctor: An Oliver Perritt Thriller, my first read from author Erica R. Stinson. An intriguing storyline promised in the blurb, never delivered in what was just an excerpt, not the full manuscript. “I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.” The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. There was nothing in this excerpt that would entice me to buy the book. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
This is the second time I’ve read something by this author, and this is a really great psychological thriller that at times had me sitting on the edge of my seat. The characters were interesting, and I loved reading this book.

An interesting read. From the first chapter you could almost see how this was going to play out, but you have to read more, delve into the rest of the book for the goods. For Avery her night out has turned into a nightmare, one she is not sure she will come back from.
