Had me gripped!!! Loved it!’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, Goodreads reviewerThey seemed like any other couple Josh and Lydia Green. A doctor, and a stay-at-home mother. They met at a party, which led to a dinner, which led to a happy … met at a party, which led to a dinner, which led to a happy and comfortable life together. They married young, and had children earlier than planned.
Their marriage seemed like any other marriage
They have their moments, of course – who doesn’t? With Josh working longer hours in the hospital, and Lydia feeling increasingly isolated at home, the strain is starting to show. They don’t talk as much as they used to.
But they have a secret like no other
Not every wife is as scared as Lydia.
Not every husband is hiding as much as Josh.
Not everything you think about them is true.
And this book contains a twist like no other…
The Divorce is an absolutely unputdownable psychological thriller which will have you hooked until the final incredible twist. Perfect for everyone who loved Gone Girl, The Woman in the Window and The Wife Between Us.

The Divorce by Victoria Jenkins is a slow burn psychological thriller that for me was anything but boring.
What it’s about: Karen is a marriage counselor that speaks from experience since her first husband was abusive. So when Josh and Lydia Green show up and Lydia seems to be in trouble, all Karen wants to do is help. But the secrets all of them are hiding might just make that impossible, and maybe even deadly…
I am keeping my summery of this one vague because I liked going into it pretty much blind, and I think everyone else should do the same. I really enjoyed how Jenkins slowly unravels one secret at a time, until you know the full picture of what is going on with all the characters. This was my first time reading a book by this author so I can’t compare it to her other ones, but I do know this was her first foray into physiological thrillers. I think some people might find this book TOO slow, but I really enjoyed the slow burn and I didn’t see any of the twists coming.
I can’t really say that I loved any of the characters in this book, but I did feel for Karen the marriage counselor. This is another book out of a few in the past week that I have read that focuses on abuse, and I think it is really well done. My last one was a DNF, so I was very happy to like The Divorce so much.
Song/s the book brought to mind: Wonderful by Everclear
Final Thought: Even though most of the chapters in The Divorce were quite long, I still read it in just 3 hours and 18 minutes which is incredibly speedy for me. The book is only 224 pages, but I have been known to read shorter books in a longer amount of time, so I think it definitely speaks to the pacing of the novel and how much I enjoyed it. I will for sure be going back and reading Jenkins’ police procedurals now and recommend this book to people that love a slow burn!
Thank you to the publisher for providing me with an advance review copy of this book via NetGalley, all opinions are my own.
Lydia and Josh feel their marriage is floundering so they begin therapy sessions with Karen. As their problems begin to unfold, Karen begins having flashbacks from her previous marriages. I am glad this was a quick easy read because I really struggled to get through the majority of it. This book fell flat for me and did not hold my interest. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Karen is a therapist, mostly dealing with couple who have marriage problems. She listens to them, and tries to help them save their marriage.
Lydia and Josh Green are new clients. Almost immediately she senses something not quite right. The two of them seem to disturb something in Lydia …something from her past.
Lydia seems to be frightened of her controlling husband. Josh is plainly angry and seems to be hiding .. something.
As Karen spends more time with the couple, she more apprehensive and afraid she seems.
What is it about their behavior that sets her teeth on edge?
This is a well-written psychological thriller sprinkled with lies and deception. Karen is like a rat cornered by the cat. What is she hiding from her past? Are Lydia and Josh plotting… something? The ending is spectacular and quite surprising.

The tag line on the cover reads “A gripping psychological thriller with a fantastic twist.” It’s not unusual for psychological thrillers to claim to be “gripping” or “unputdownable” and to tout their “twists.” Unfortunately, this book does not live up to any of those claims. I’m sure that some people will love the commentary on marriage and domestic abuse, but for me, there was too much exposition that slowed the action down. As a result, the twist that was supposed to make me say “Oh, wow!” just made me say, “Eh.” Parts of the plot were interesting, and the concept was okay, but it all got lost in endless paragraphs of inner thoughts – just not my cup of tea. And speaking of tea, the ending seemed very abrupt and left the story unfinished. Come to think of it, the entire story was haphazard and incomplete. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and the author for a complimentary pre-release digital ARC of this book
This book was very real with the story line. This displays what marriages go through with the good, the bad, and the ugly. The story showed both sides of a marriage where both parties brought the couple to seek professional counseling. The counselor had experienced some of the same things that the couple was going through, but was also faced with challenges that she never through we would have to face as a marriage counselor.
The story brought many memories back to me due to being previously divorced, but it also taught me a few things to remember in my current marriage.
The story was well written, brought the thoughts of both parties to life.
This is not a book I would have typically chosen to read, but I am glad I did!
3.5 stars for me.
The Divorce for me starts slowly.
But I persevered am I glad I did.
I found the story intriguing from the beginning and the end brought it all together and then some.
Others may not find it starts slow so do give The Divorce a read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read The Divorce
A quick and compulsively readable story of a therapist and her new clients, Josh and Lydia who seek her out for marital counseling. The story takes place in the home of the therapist and is told by three points of view. Not a suspenseful read but good nonetheless. I was surprised by the twist and reveal.
My first book from the author and quite an intriguing story.
I liked the writing style very much and the fact that was simple and had the main characters points of view was an added bonus to this story full of mysteries and a bit of suspense.
The first half of the book felt a bit flat and left me with a lot of questions about what is really going on and what can happen next if the story continues like this. But in the second half, the story takes a faster pace and the turn at the end was quite surprising as I didn’t see it coming and I suppose that was the main meaning of the whole story.
Will definitely read more books by the author in the future.
