One tragic night changed sensible, proper Lady Edith Pelton’s life: when her best friend fell to her death, pushed down a flight of stairs by a nefarious lord. Now, Edith dedicates her time to watching the man she thinks is responsible, while gathering information to expose other scoundrels posing as gentlemen of honor about London. When her spying is noticed by a perfect stranger, Edith finds … finds herself with two mysteries—what happened to her friend, and how to win the heart of this brilliantly handsome lord.
Triston Neville, Viscount Torrington, has been tasked with two duties for the upcoming Season: see that his sisters make the most of their debut, and avoid embroiling himself in another scandal. What he does not expect is the captivating, fair-haired beauty that literally falls into his path. When the mysterious Lady Edith suddenly disappears without a trace, Triston fears his past misdeeds may have returned to destroy his life once more.
Can Triston piece together the puzzle in time to save Edith and prove that his love is nothing less than honorable?

Fine gripping story!
A wonderful start to the series
This is a wonderfully thought out first book in what promises to be a great series. This clean plot has the main characters, trying to solve the mystery of a friends death and having to overcome a demented stepmother, before the two focused characters of this story can achieve their desires. A very entertaining read.
Spelling and grammar errors
Love reading her books. Believable.
So so
I need to get the rest of the books on the other girls. A good quick read that is a little different.
Excellent story!
A different kind of Mayfair story. Three intrepid young ladies take on the vile men of the ton and try to save ladies from marriage to scoundrels. Putting themselves in danger. A loving happily ever after..
Edith and her group of friends numbered four, until one dies falling down the stairs on her wedding night. Was it murder? Now the three friends won’t stop until they succeed in proving who committed the crime. In investigating one lord, Edith ends up at the feet of another, Triston, Viscount Torrington. He and Edith continue to cross paths until she is kidnapped. Now it’s Triston and Edith’s friends to the rescue. It’s a madcap adventure, who do you trust?
I just could not get into it. It seemed artificial and contrived as a premise, and I stopped reading.
Enjoyed reading
10/31/2020 I actually rate “The Disappearance of Lady Edith as 3-1/2 stars. The love story is interesting. However, the story can be improved.
I like the term ‘Needs must’ but it was used more than necessary and distracted me.
On page 59 it is written: “however, Triston had sought distance and space – between him, society, and his father and the duke’s new bride.” Not sure what Duke this refers to because it is not Triston’s father.
There were a few twists and turns with the storyline.
When I opened up the book to read it was a different story!!
“A Lord of Her Own”. It was a good story but very confusing at first when I realized I was reading a differ story than the title.
Not my favorite. Story jumped around and the story did not track. Writing made it sound contrived and far fetched. Also, storyline was bizarre. Lady is pushed down stairs, but no resolution and the story wanders off with Lady Ediths abduction. Did not like at all.
Here’s the thing. I ordered this book on Bookbub. HOWEVER, the book that downloaded was “A Lord of Her Own”. Luckily for me, this story was a great read. I truly liked Godiva and Marcus, and was interested in how their romance would unfold.
So to my dilemma. Do I recommend this book? Am I putting a 5 star recommendation on the wrong book? Hmm. Not fair to the author, so I’m giving the book the rating it deserves. 5 stars.
It’s always nice to read an uplifting story.
I purchased as part of a 3 book bundle the author offered called THE UNDAUNTED DEBUTANTES SERIES.
I did enjoy how the H/h met, made me laugh. If she was spotted in the tree, which seemed to be close to the road, she would be ruined. Several other times, rules seemed to not be adhered too. Still, I enjoyed the story even though some editing/spelling issues too.
The h and her friends believe their friend was murdered. That part of the story is not handled in this one, of course I have two more books to read in the bundle. I felt sorry for the H, his betrothed ends up marrying his father and he moves out of the house.
This story had some surprises as to another villain who tries to harm the h. If you can suspend belief with what I’ve mentioned, I think you would enjoy this story.
The h/H only have passionate kisses. But, near the beginning of the story, the h witnesses some women standing naked in a window. She then is fondled by a man, no description of anything taking place, except with your imagination.
No cheating, no cliffhanger for our H/h except the murderer not found, HEA and little on romance. I did enjoy the banter between the H/h at times. (ljb)
This was a very quick read and I had figured out the plot early on. I’ve read lots of Regency romances and I thought Lady Edith had much too much freedom for a gently bred lady of the times. Whenever she went out, she should have at least had a maid with her, but that didn’t seem to be the case at all.
Viscount Torrington had a decent backstory, but I was continually thrown by the spelling of his given name, Triston. It seemed so out of place for an English lord.
Unfortunately, the book was riddled with typos which got annoying after the first few. While the story had potential, there were too many problems with it to earn more than 3 stars.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
The Disappearance of Lady Edith is a phenomenal historical romance by Christina McKnight. Ms. McKnight has produced a well-written book populated with a stellar cast of characters. Edith and her friends are convinced their friend Tilda was pushed down the stairs, to her death, by her new husband the Duke of Abercorn on her wedding night. Triston spots Edith in a tree on his father’s property while she’s spying on Abercorn. Triston has agreed to his father’s wishes and will accompany his sister during the season. Triston and Edith’s story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading my next book by Christina McKnight. The Disappearance of Lady Edith is book 1 of The Undaunted Debutantes Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Love Happens Unexpectedly
Lady Edith and her best friend’s lives were changed in an instant. For that reason, Lady Edith’s current focus is not on dancing around a ballroom, but sitting up in a tree.
Deception and betrayal changed Lord Torrington’s life two years ago. As much as he hates the idea, for now, his focus is on his two sisters as he plays escort during their first London season.
For some reason, The Disappearance of Lady Edith was at the back of my Kindle. Which is odd since I like Christina McKnight’s clean writing style. Regardless, I opened it up and was immediately drawn into an original stand-alone story that is the first in The Undaunted Debutantes Series. From the start I liked Lady Edith, but Lord Torrington had to earn my admiration. Which he did. Their witty and edgy dialogue, and that of his two sisters was truly grin-worthy. As far as romance, the attraction between Edith and Triston may have been instant, but the love took awhile. Since this is more of a novella, Ms. McKnight had to move the plot along, which did hurt it a bit in the more dramatic parts. Still, the overall flow was good and I never felt the need to skim through the pages. I liked the ending as well as the sweet epilogue. With the exception of the overarching mystery, all of the immediate loose ends were neatly tied together.
Content alert: This book contains a few mild swear words, some sweet kissing and one violent scene.
