KICKIN’ UP THE HEAT!!!
OMG! Talk about hard decisions. This is one exciting, action packed, heart pounding, pulse racing, page turning bombshell that hits the ground running. All the twists , ups and downs, along with a few glitches here and there make for one exciting adventure. Throw in all the drama and suspense and you have one intense, electrifying tale that captures your attention from start to finish. The characters and their personalities are so realistic and believable it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. The scenes are so graphically detailed it really pulls this bad boy together beautifully. You have no trouble picturing every scenario as it plays out perfectly. Demelza did an incredible job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Fantastic job Demelza, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.
Delightful story which details the rise of the Health, Environment, Law and Lands Corporation and ends with Mel’s interview. I was mildly disappointed that Mel had such a limited involvement in the story but Luce turned out to be a much more complex and interesting than I expected. I look forward to learning more.
I received a copy of this book as a gift. I am leaving my honest review.
Looks like the Devil has his hands full!
Interesting but not a book, just a start of one. Nothing to get excited about or even really investigate further. The premise of the show Lucifer without the cop aspect to it. Luce has decided to take over the world through privatization. And the angels have to stop him and they send Melody Angel to do it. And that’s the book summed up in two sentences. Does it have a plot? No, just abysmal world building and character establishment. Don’t even bother with this one.
This is a well written book with strong characters and an entertaining story line. The author pulls you in with all the drama, suspense and danger as well as the intrigue and tons of action. She adds humor and love along with the steamy passion. The twists and turns keep you reading to the end. I loved and would recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Having read “See You In Hell” first, this was a refreshing take on “See You In Hell”. While not a retelling or even a changed POV version technically that was how it read to me.
I got a more in depth understanding of Luce and the effect Mel had on him from the start.
It was a great book &start of a series give it a read!
I noticed I had several other ‘Mel Goes to Hell’ Series Books when Book 1 was offered. I bought Book 1 because I like to start with the first (or prequel, if any) and proceed chronologically. I enjoyed the first book, so will continue with the rest of the series. The writing is light-hearted, told from the point of view of Luce (the fallen angel Lucifer), with humor and a jaundiced view of human nature, especially of politicians (to which I can definitely relate).
We meet Luce Iblis, Lord of Hell and CEO of SoulCorp. A polished, suave, debonair, sexy, devil-may-care corrupter of souls. He and Mephistopheles are planning the dominion of the Earth, starting with Western Australia. Things go well, until it seems not only the angel Raphael knows what’s going on, but Luce has to hire angels to get the work done because there aren’t enough trained demons available. Computers and spreadsheets and mobile phones, oh my! Then Lucifer, former Light of the Morning, meets Mel Angel, setting him up for another downfall – to be continued….
It was definitely a good read, anything with angels and demons I’m hooked. Looking forward to reading the rest.
First let me say that I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book, but it in no way influenced my feedback. I always leave an honest review.
This is a good story and a gr8 introduction to “Mel Goes To Hell” series. It introduces you to Luce aka Lucifer the Devil how and why he started the HELL corporation and how he meets Mel aka Melody Angel. It’s a really interesting read. I recommend this read 5 Thumbs up
You’ll cry, you’ll laugh, you’l probably snort a bit … but no matter what you’ll do, you’ll definitely enjoy Demelza Carlton’s The Devil’s Work, first in her Mel Goes to Hell series. Totally imaginative and fun. Read the blurb. If it even slightly amuses you I promise you’ll love this story. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
This was a fantastic book, with a refreshing version of Lucifer that seems almost a mix between Good Omen’s Crawley and Lucifer from, well, Lucifer. Hilarious at moments, always entertaining, and nearly impossible to put down.
This book made me laugh so much. Luce has that corporate image down pat. I loved that for all his polished image Mel has him fumbling. I found that I was rooting for him against Raphael. I can’t wait to learn more about Mel. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.
The Devil’s Work by Demelza Carlton is paranormal fantasy and the prequel to the existing Mel Goes to Hell series. This is the first book I’ve read by the author and it’s different from what I usually read. The story introduces Luce, the HELL corporation, and their scheme to take over Western Australia. We meet Mel, the protagonist of the series, at the very end. While not a complete story, it was an interesting beginning and I’m curious about what happens next.
*** I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC. ***
THE DEVIL’S WORK is the first book in the Mel Goes to Hell series. Here’s the thing, though, it’s actually the fifth release, but it’s the new number one and the author is updating and re-releasing the other titles soon.
I’d already read the first and second books (now the 1.5 and two? See below for my scorecard), so for me this was a prequel. It was interesting to find out the machinations behind the creating of HELL Corporation.
I had a bit of a pause determining the “genre” to write down for this book since there is no real romance to speak of – Lucifer doesn’t exactly do hearts and flowers, just secretaries. It is pure comedy… errr, not so pure, if you know what I mean. It is intellectually fun and flirty as the devil pits his arrogance against all of mankind.
I loved it. It was entertaining, not overly theological, fun, and funny. Not an easy line to walk when tackling this type of subject, but Demelza Carlton does it! She makes the devil a character you know (your boss, maybe?)
I’m looking forward to reading the re-releases and continuing the series. Join me in HELL.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Although I read other works by this author this is the first of the Mel Goes to Hell series that I’ve read. I thought it was fun, enjoyable and overall pretty good story. The Devil’s Work is like a prequel. It gives the reader some background on Lucifer/Luce and what brought him to earth and how he meets Mel. I look forward to finding out more about who Mel really is and what her goals are in the next book. (3.5)
The Devil’s Work is being published as Book #1 in a series that already exists, but I think it works better as a Prequel treat for readers who are already fans of the series. It was hard to rate this book because I think if I’d read it after the others I would have enjoyed it more. So 4 for writing but 3 for enjoyment. I love Ms Carlton’s books and writing and have read others of her series, but not the Mel series, so this was actually my first encounter with this world. It is well written but, again, I don’t think I actually enjoyed it as much as an established fan of the series would. It is a bit heavy on the descriptions of complex and frankly incomprehensible world domination /political /business machinations for my taste. I would have liked more world building regarding devils and angels. It is there of course, but I am greedy and wanted MORE! 🙂 I also couldn’t relate or empathize with any of the principle characters — of course! At the very end we are introduced to Mel and thankfully there is a preview of the next book to tempt you (see what I did there?!)
I especially liked the “humanization” of the behavior/motivation of the Devil and Angels. Great characters and world building. I am very anxious to get to the next book in the series.
This is a quick fun read with the devil living in Australia and plotting to take over the world. Luce is fun and I am sure that Mel will give him trouble in future books in this series.
Awesome! Angels vs Demons . The storyline was filled with plenty of twists and turns that kept me reading. Will Lucifer take over the World & Heaven ? Before someone stops him. Lucifer has very bad plans. This is my 1st AWESOME Book by Demelza Carlton !!!! I will be Reading More of Your Books !! Now it’s Your turn – Click Now !
This was a well-written, entertaining intro to the Mel Goes to Hell series. The story introduces Lucifer starting his plan to take over the world, setting up a corporation in Perth, Australia. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series.
