This is a great read especially if your favourite genre is dark mafia romance!
The plot is very well written and with so many twists and turns that you will be unable to guess what’s going to happen the next time you turn the page.
Like his nickname, the hero is ruthlessly violent and will crush anyone who even tries to ruin his plans. But even the big, bad mafia boss can be bewitched by a special someone who is going to give him more than he bargained for. Victor and Sofia’s chemistry is so off the charts that they are going to set your kindles in flames! I highly guarantee this book won’t disappoint you.
Oh damn what a book this was from Dani. The sheer angst, passion and grit you could just taste it in the pages as the arthur who’s not written this type of story. Just blew me away with this story. It’s like she’s been writing mafia stories her whole life. I could not get enough of it.
This is definitely one to read this year.
Amazing book to read. Dark read but Hella good book to read.
Five star book. I highly recommend this book. Already told some people about it.
First time reading from a book from this author and it was Hella good
Wow what a story. This was another superb read by this author.
Victor and Sofia are complete opposites. Victor is the devil who is given Sofia as a payment. He’s called devil for a reason. Sofia is a very likeable character and love how she was portrayed.
Dani does dark in a fabulous way and this was an epic read that I inhaled in one sitting.
Absolutely loved it and can’t wait to read more from Dani.
I loved, loved, loved this book as I do all of Dani’s books. She is an awesome writer that will draw you in with a single word and not let you go. The Devil’s Plaything is no different you will love the angst and suspense this awesome story has to offer.
Who loves Dark mafia books I do who wrote on of the best mafia books I have ever read Dani Rene!!!! This book was so good in every which way. It had you wanting to finish the whole book in one sitting and once it was done you can’t get it off your mind loved it.
I liked this book. This book has a disclaimer that if you can’t deal with dark romance that has a lot of triggers. This book is a dark mafia romance. It has blood and gore, steamy scenes, and a good plot. It is very mysterious and keeps you on the edge of your seat to see what’s gonna happen to Hector, Sofia, and of course Victor the mob boss. I kept reading thinking I knew what would happen next and it surprised me every time. If you can handle the darkness then I recommend this book.

Colombian Cartel King captures his Queen!
I actually really liked this book. It’s funny how books and movies can put make almost anyone likable. Even a completely brutal Columbian Cartel leader, named Victor that lords over his people and keeps everyone in line through fear and retribution. He is not portrayed as a guy who lets the little things go. Like when a pick-pocket tries to grab his wallet and disrespects him. He cuts off the guys hand in the middle of a busy marketplace in order to show everyone what happens to people who steal from him.
When Victor finds out one of his long time employees has stolen cocaine from him and is selling on the streets, he doesn’t care that the man has been employed with him since long before his father died and his father trusted the man, he also doesn’t care what the man’s reasons were. Though when he finds out the man has a daughter, he decides he will take her as compensation for the crime. Victor still plans to kill the man for stealing product from him and probably the daughter too after he finishes with her.
The storyline about the daughter and what she has been through and is going through is very good as well. She has learned to hate Victor her entire life because he is a brutal criminal and because her father works twelve hour days for very little pay. However, Victor is a very handsome man and she finds herself attracted to him and he to her from the start.
The romance is smoking hot and out of the park steamy from the get go. Victor is a dominant alpha male who is jealous and possessive. There are quite a few unexpected twists and turns, which I won’t give away. I’m not quite sure how she could love him and get over some of the things he has done. Though she wasn’t always up front with him either. I really liked the story and the characters. It felt real and gritty and not always happy and nice which is appropriate for the world of the cartel.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This story was simply AMAZING. Wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns so if that’s what your hoping for don’t read this one. However if you like DARK then this book is for you. I simply can’t wait for more from this series and author.
Like many before it and others that will follow, The Devil’s Plaything follows the classic mafia girl given as payment for debt story. What sets it apart is the secrets that the characters are hiding from each other and the twist that happens 2/3 of the way through. Can’t say I saw that one coming! I really enjoyed witnessing the softening of the mafia king and the toughening up of the innocent young woman in this really well written book.
I haven’t read anything by Dani René before but this was a good place to start. This is a dark story and there are some graphic elements and in places it is difficult to read. There are elements of light and sweetness but the focus and main events are dark and it gets progressively darker. The author does a really good job of making sure there is more than just never ending violence and the book has more depth than just graphic violence for violence’s sake.
The setting is intriguing and Victor makes a fantastic antihero. His appeal grew as the book progressed and there was more of an insight into his world. He is not a character you will instantly fall for, but by the end I certainly had a less black and white view of him. Sofia is sweet and innocent but is also fiery and full of fight. She is brave and you want good things for her throughout the book. The relationships she has throughout the book pull readers into the storyline even more and make you question what situations would affect those relationships. There are also some wonderful supporting characters such as Javi, he is captivating and could easily be the focal point of another story.
Overall this was a really enjoyable dark read.
First off, I hate giving low star reviews. I feel bad and panicky when I do but I like to be honest In my thoughts on books I read.
I’d honestly rate The Devils Plaything a 2.5/5 stars.
I am a huge fan of mafia books. I read probably most of the robes off Wattpad and what KU has to offer and spent big bucks on authors I know who can write a Mafia story.
This novel was hard to finish. The typos, the storyline.. all of it was just … bad. And I hate saying this.
The MFC claims to absolutely hate the MMC until she sees his penis and it was like all the sudden they fell madly in love with each other. There was absolutely no angst. no build up of characters. The MMC tortures the MFCs father yet he goes to the father a couple chapters later and asks permission to marry his daughter and they become good friends? I mean he chop the man’s fingers and hand off! And burned him with a damn blow torch. The MFC acts as if she doesn’t give a crap about the whole ordeal and then she has a heart transplant which she leaves the hospital in like two weeks and everything is just back to normal.
I’d also like to note: a 9mm is a type of bullet. Not a gun.
The correct terminology is “9mm handgun” or you can specifically say Glock, etc.
It was a ton of “fuck you, I hate you” till a cock came out and then it was instalove. It was awkward.
I won this in a paperback giveaway and I’m glad a did because it’s not a book I would have been happy to spend money on.
The Devil’s Plaything brings us to a dark and dirty mafia story with Victor at the helm as the king. Victor learned everything he needed to know from his father and he will be damned if he will let it all go away. Even falling in love is not in the cards for him.
Sofia is a beautiful young woman that knows she is on borrowed time. Things are going down around her that she has no control of. Sofia’s life is now in the hands of a monster that is the king of drugs and guns in the country she lives in. And now she is under his roof.
The story comes to life in your hands while you are reading it. Sofia’s light and Victor’s dark are the embodiment of this story. You have to have both for the love story.
Victor Cordero took Sofía Montero and planned on showing her no mercy, but his heart had another plan for them. The longer he kept Sofía the more he actually grew a heart. Victor being in the business he is he can show no weakness, but when he is in Sofía’s presence he is the weakest he has ever found himself. Sofía wanted to hep her father survive his errors, but she wasn’t sure she was going to be able to or if she’s going to hate Victor has she is finding him making her broken heart feel things she never knew she would. Both Victor and Sofía needed each other and they will finally find happiness once they both believe their feelings are real.
“The Devil’s Plaything of Dani Rene was so good. I was immersed in fabulous and thrilling mafia world. Honestly I wasn’t sure if I was gonna like it and I’m so glad I read this story!
A dark read with a hot anti-hero and a brave heroine. Victor… I don’t even have words to describe him correctly. He was a dark character no Prince Charming. Don’t get me wrong you’re gonna fall hard for the King of the Colombian cartel, trust me.
Sofia was the complete opposite of him though I really liked how her character developed. She was a vulnerable character but she was more than a broken girl.
I absolutely adored it but don’t let my love fool you it was dark, hot and so sexy!!!!
If dark reads are your thing you must read this one. I highly recommend it!”
I was blown away by this story.. Victor is the ultimate devil and his plaything, Sofia doesn’t know what she has coming. The Author dove right into this new to her genre and came out with guns blazing.
WOW what a story what a book. This is a dark Mafia story that has no boundaries. Victor is one seriously bad guy one you don’t want to cross. Sofia is payment for a debt, you’d think knowing the type of man he is she’d be cautious but she loves to push his buttons. I loved how both characters were written. Victor is cruel dark and very sadistic, the darker he gets the more I liked him. Sofia is a quiet shy beautiful young woman but don’t underestimate her because she is stronger than even she knows.
An unapologetically dark Mafia story that had me hooked.
I absolutely FLOVED Victor and Sofia!!!!! I love Mafia romance reads and lately I’ve been finding most that are written lacking, but Dani Rene truly has me on the edge of my seat and turning my kindle pages so fast that my fingers hurt!!!! Rene knows just how to keep you completely involved in her books, and The Devil’s Plaything is no different!!! Standing ovation for this Mafia romance!!!!!
Victor Cordero was a big guy, the head of a cartel. Sofia is a young woman who is sick and it will eventually kill her. Short on medication and unable to pay for an operation that will save her life, Sofia’s father does something that can get him killed. Victor finds out and he makes a deal. Hector will give his daughter, Sofia, as payment for his wrong. Though Victor is the devil, a monster, he and Sofia find an attraction between them. Victor has issues. Can he overcome them? Other issues arise and bad choices are made by Victor. He almost loses Sofia. Can Sofia overcome her trauma? Can they have a HEA? Great story.
Dark and delicious!! So freaking amazing!! Intense well detailed storyline that kept me glued to the pages. Smoking hot characters. So many plot twists. Way better than ten stars!!
