This series by Gemma James is super dark, with a very villainous hero. Loved it!
Naughty, fun to read and it’ll keep you excited all the way through!
This book had me on edge I loved the character the story I cant get enough of Gage.
I enjoyed this book interesting characters.
I read the first book in a few hours and then could not stop there ended up reading the whole series within a few days! Very steamy, kept me on the edge of my seat just wondering what was going to happen next. I would highly recommend this series!
I love Gemma James books – never been disappointed – this didn’t disappoint either
Loved the series. Never knew what to expect. Page turner
This is the 1st of a 3-part books. LOVE it.
Seriously. This book pushed me into turmoil from chapter 1. Literally. Chapter 1. Book 1.
This review applies to all 4 books!
I got nothing done. I read this 4 books straight.
I don’t even know what to say except the writing was superb, the story was twisted as hell and this book owned my attention, energy, and time.
Heed the warning at the start. It’s not for the light at heart.
Alphabole extremely squared.
Seriously.
Dark. Twisted. Hot. Painful. Frustrating. Excellent.
Gemma James
When I started this series, I wanted to quit. I wanted the male protagonist to have some heart, alas it never came. Although I don’t fancy Gemma James characters, her books are violent, addictive, and I admire her writing and talent to create such assholes.
My first thought when finishing this book was 5 stars, I rated it as such when completing it at 2 this morning, but with a little distance (and sleep) I dropped first to 4.5 then 4. I love the dark erotic tales Ms James spins, she actually introduced me to the genre, but there were things here that, in retrospect were a little off for me.
What I liked:
The love triangle in this story could have been made of barbed wire. It didn’t matter which way you turned, things weren’t as they seemed. I was halfway through the book and had no idea who I wanted Kayla to be with.
I love the way Ms James makes darkness sexy. These themes are in no way okay in real life but I don’t mind sitting back and watching the show.
Things that bugged me:
I get that this is not the real world and it is only a story but, Kayla said over and over that she was doing it all for Eve, but I’m sure Eve would have done much better with a mother who was present. As the mother of a child with medical conditions, this was the hardest part to get through. I have held my daughter at times we thought we may have to say goodbye, and there is absolutely NO WHERE I would be other than with my sick child. Also, what magic drug took Eve from death’s door to full health?! I understand that this is a story but Kayla’s limited time with her daughter always took me out of the world in this book. I get that it’s because of my personal experience so I got over it.
I also felt like Rick was the villain of convenience. He was brought up here and there to incite fear in Kayla then he shows up in the end. There were enough villainous characters in this one. I felt like he was unnecessary, that doesn’t mean I didn’t gasp when he showed up. =)
In the end….I won’t post any spoilers but I’ll say that I liked the ending here. I don’t think I’ll continue the series. But, I can’t wait to read more Gemma James!!
Great book
Dark and somewhat needlessly brutal. I did not finish the book.
Interesting read IF you are OK with some non-consensual activity.
Just same old stuff. Get a new idea!
Difficult read, did not keep interest
The book give you a warning it may be uncomfortable. It was really hot as a fantasy. But it being real life – yuck ! I would read her again but I will not read the sequel of her getting back with Gage.
This pushed my limits with the level of BDSM. Slightly violent but the amazing characters and twists and turns kept me going.
unrealistic characters and plot
Not for the faint of heart but if twisted is your thing, this is well done.
