A lot of blood and gore but if you can get through those passages, it’s a twist turning story!

It was dark, definitely not an uplifting or happy read. Sometimes it appears that a woman’s mind from a man’s perspective is a trip to an unknown galaxy.

Dark story! so don’t read this if you are looking for a happily ever after. Different take on characters and a sad look at the time of pirates and especially the limited roles for women.
I was disappointed in this book. Way more graphic violence and brutality than I expected. Sure pirates aren’t supposed to be kind and caring but in all books I’ve read with pirates, most have some redeeming qualities. There were none here! The way Katherine was treated was sickening. The details of the torture and deaths of the pirates was so graphic that I have no desire to read the next two in the series.
This was a well written book but the gore, violence and general unpleasantness of what the pirate life must have been like were just too much for me.
