QuiTai, ruthless concubine of Levapur’s mysterious crime lord, the Devil, receives an unexpected invitation to cocktails with disgraced Thampurian Kyam Zul. She doesn’t trust Kyam enough to drink anything he pours, and won’t help him no matter how hard he begs — or threatens. But when QuiTai’s ex-lover is murdered, Kyam is the only one who knows the name of the killer, and he won’t tell QuiTai … unless she helps him first.
The torpid back alleyways of Levapur’s tropical colony hide more than lovers. There are things with claws, beings with venomous fangs, and spies lurking in the jungle. Most of them want to keep their secrets. One wants QuiTai dead.

I can not rate this at more than five stars or I would! The world as described is fantastic! The characters are well written, engaging, and endearing. I was engrossed by the third chapter. I found this book as a freebie here, but immediately purchased the second book to continue this adventure. The main character is so realistically a woman. …
I read this book 7 months ago and the characters and the world still fascinate me. I read a lot of books and very few of them are memorable. This one is.
Not my cup of tea.
Just couldn’t get into it.
Great book!!! Want the next one.
Great characters and an interesting turn on the Devil and his cohorts. I really enjoyed this novel.
I enjoyed this novel. It is subtle and the characters are well developed. I’ve read the trilogy and enjoyed all three.
Something about this book will make me keep reading, I have ordered the series!!
After a slow start I really enjoyed the book. I will definitely purchase book two. I’m invested in the characters.
Just couldn’t get into this.
This is one I could not put down.
Too grim
Really enjoyed the perspective and strong female lead in this story- even though she is slightly “bad” she really isn’t – Great book. Made me think about what the next stage of the story might be, but didn’t end in a cliffhanger (I really dislike those).
The book was fair. It’s probably me , but the forms of formal greetings got a little out of hand. I had to go back a few times to recall who was speaking or being spoken to. The ending is great, and you had me going in the wrong direction a couple of times. I’m sure after getting used to your prose. The second book should come a lot easier. …
Very intriguing, but difficult to wade through the unfamiliar language, especially in the beginning. I love the very strong female lead character, and the unfolding layers of her character.
I loved it. I was able to get involved with the characters and the story.
Read all in series so far.
This is a book you need to read and not listen to . I listen to books while at work and this on I had to stop and read it because there is so much going on to keep up.
Love this book, the writing is superb and I can not wait to delve deeper into this world!
This book was wonderful, creating a very detailed fantasy world, full of cunning and intrigue. The main character was deliciously devious and incredibly clever. The author was able to show how smart she was, not just tell us. I would definately recommend.
