This is the final book in the two-book duet. Book one must be read first. One man thinks I’m a saint. The other thinks I’m a sinner. One man lives in the public eye. The other lurks in the shadows. One man wants to use me for his own needs. The other wants to use me for his revenge. One man will get what’s coming to him. The other will get what he deserves. They told me good girls get rewarded. But … will get what he deserves.
They told me good girls get rewarded.
But I’ve been bad. Very bad.
I made a deal with The Devil…and I liked it.

Alright so I just DEVOURED this book, which is ridiculous because I read Book 1 exactly 3 months ago and I’m just now getting to reading the finale, since I was neck-deep in writing my own book.
ANYHOO, for 3 months I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how in the holy hell this story would wrap up, let alone with a HEA lol. And then BAM! This booked just demolished me!!
I absolutely LOVE Damien King. I mean, to be fair, I loved him in Book 1, too. From his first line, I was totally on board. And at the end of Book 1, I was broken for him. I wanted, nay, NEEDED him to get revenge for what Cain did to him.
Without spoiling anything, this book did NOT disappoint! Let me just say, I love a book that has you rooting for one person in the beginning and then they turn out to be the villain. And then the villain becomes the hero lol (or anti-hero).
The same thing happened with Eden. In Book 1, she was sorta pointless, and then in the beginning of book 2 I was WAITING for her to break free from her chains and rock house, which she certainly did. I loved the arc of her character, and by about 50% in, I was smirking, snapping and yelling YAAASSSS KWEEN for her lol.
Her and her man are a force. I love it.
There was a part during the climax/resolution, at the end of this book, that dragged a bit, though I understand why it was necessary. It just felt like a lot of recapping and talking, but I didn’t mind it much. Some stuff was revealed that was pretty crazy. Dramatic af.
The thing about the writing in this book is that it’s almost entirely character-driven. It’s not overly descriptive. Actually, it’s not descriptive at all lol. It’s straight to the point, and everything revolves around the fucked-up characters and what they’re doing, which I’m am TOTALLY into, so long as the characters are awesome, like they were in this book.
I highly recommend this duet (that feels like it should be one book, but that’s just my Nyla K opinion lol) to anyone who likes unexpected drama, bisexual dudes, anti-heroes, character redemption and destruction, hot dirty sex, and just generally dark shit. If you like getting the POV of the villain, which I DEFINITELY do, then this book is for you!
READ IT!!!
First off I want to say thank you to Tanya for gifting me a copy of this book, I have been waiting to read it forever. Ok so I went back and read the first book before I jumped into this one just to make sure my memory served me correctly and yep it did.. that ending broke my heart again. This book Damian is wicked but oh so amazing!! Edens story is really heartbreaking when you learn it all but she ends up growing that backbone! Cain… well I don’t have much to say about him except I was really disappointed in him. This book had so many turns but Ashley made it all come together and when it did wowziers how everything lined up. It was the perfect ending to a messed up story!!!
They say there’s a thin line between love and hate. But mine’s so thick I can taste it.
Holy. Fuck. That was one hell of a ride. When I read The Devil, I went in with no expectations because I had never read a book by Ashley Jade before. I devoured it and then immediately consumed this one just as fast. This duet shocked me, broke me, angered me, and healed me all in such a short amount of time, and I feel like I am suffering from emotional whiplash. I mean that in the best way possible. I haven’t been able to read anything else today because I am in such a book hangover. Damien, Eden, and Cain are all I can think about. Ashley Jade, I think it’s safe to say, is a new favorite author of mine. I love when authors aren’t afraid to be nasty, dirty, and as dark as they can. I thrive on the extremes of dark romance, and this rode the line of erotic and dark extremely well. I was on the edge of my fucking seat the whole time. I don’t think my heart stopped pounding until the very last word. If I smoked, I would have been chain smoking the whole way through. This book pushed my boundaries and made my anxiety rise, and I LOVED every second. That ending could not have been more perfect in my opinion.
If you follow me on Instagram, just be aware. This is one that I will be recommending until I’m blue in the face and you guys are sick of me talking about it. 🙂
Overall rating: 5 stars
Steaminess: 4 stars
This has to be one of the best books I have ever read! I was completely on edge through the whole duet and had no idea what Ashley was going to throw at me next. All emotions were running high. I don’t even know what the say except, wow. Ashley is crazy. The stuff that she wrote was so unexpected and twisted and hot. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened but at the same time I didn’t want it to end. I will be suggesting this book to everybody! 10/5 stars. Insane.
IF YOU HAVE NOT READ BOOK ONE I SUGGEST YOU DON’T READ THIS REVIEW YET AS IT MAY SPOIL IT FOR YOU.
Och this book! I really thought I had it figured out after the end of the first one, but yet again I did not!
It was so cleverly written and the characters really sucked me right into their world.
I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I did the first one but I think that’s more to do with the fact that the damn characters didn’t do what the fuck I wanted them to rather than the story being less, ye ken?
How dare they!!?
CAIN
Ooft, you have a lot to answer for arse-hole!
When I first met him in the first one I was like “niiiiice”. Daddy material, ye ken?
But turns out he had a bit of a dark past that puts his intentions into question.
Well, the plot thickens lassies!
This man has all kinds of surprises and demons in his closet. Some of them are sexy as fuck and some are just…well not.
DAMIEN
Okay, so he can be a right prick. But aren’t all the best ones?
Damien has quite the hidden past too and he’s here to shake shit up and has no intention of sparing anyone in the process.
He is patient, smart and deadly. Also, he is all kinds of kinky sexy. Seriously. There’s not much that man won’t do. And he knows how to fuck…and dominate a situation to perfection.
EDEN
Wow, this girl manages to find her strength and pull herself out of the pit of anxiety and depression. What a transformation!
She learns so much more about her past (and how all these arseholes are part of it) than she probably wanted to and it just blows me away,
She also finds out what she likes in the bedroom, lol.
She’s a lassie after my own heart because she likes to experiment and try all of it! I mean how do you know you won’t like something if you don’t try it, right?
SEX SCENES
There were so many hot AF sex scenes in this one and I don’t know which turned me on the most! The m/f/m or just Eden and Damien or Cain.
“Wha—” Papers and various objects hit the floor as I throw her down on my desk. “Queens get rewarded.” I pin her legs to her chest. “First with my mouth.” She writhes and moans as I take turns sucking her pussy lips before giving her clit the same treatment. “Then with my cock.” Straightening my spine, I thrust inside her in one fluid motion. She hisses as I quicken the pace, causing the desk to rock underneath her. “Oh, God.” Her chest heaves, lifting those heavy tits high and I slap one. “That’s not my name.” “Damien.” Her eyes roll back as I reach down and rub her clit vigorously. “It’s…fuck.” The swollen flesh pulses beneath my fingertips and I give it to her harder. A hoarse cry rips from her throat and she jerks violently, clamping my cock like a vise as a rush of warm fluid seeps out of her. Eden looks mortified, but I shake my head, convulsing as I pull out and spray my cum all over her drenched cunt. “I appreciate a good pussy shower.” I reach inside my desk drawer for my cigarettes. “Have a good night.”
FINAL THOUGHTS on THE DEVIL’S ADVOCATE by Ashley Jade
I loved how many unexpected twists were in this book, I did not see half of this shit coming. I also loved how dark it got. I most definitely will be reading more of Ashley Jades’s work!
4.5 Stars
This is book 2 in this series and what a twisted ride it was.
It was totally different from my usual reads and despite the many no-no’s this had in store for me I still enjoyed it a lot.
It gripped me from the start with its originality and uniqueness and was a superb finale.
My first experience with this author but definitely not my last.
I can’t say too much without giving this away so my main advice is read this series blind with no preconceptions.
This is again told from all three POV’s and is equally as enthralling as its predecessor.
A great read that I do recommend.
Totally loving where this went and also that final brilliant end game.
This one managed to totally surprise me.

Let me just pick my jaw up off the ground!!! HOLY COW!!! What an ending to an intricately weaved, jaw dropping, heart pounding tale of revenge, growth and redemption.
The twists and turns just kept coming and throwing me for a loop. I LOVE THAT so hard!! The feeling of not knowing what to expect next and being surprised.
I loved seeing Eden mature and gain confidence. Her character developed organically and beautifully. Honestly she was a tad annoying at first but in the end she was so strong and self assured.
Damien is just EVERY DAMN THING!!! This was my first time reading Jade and it certainly will not be my last!!
Stunned!
What a magnificent storyteller Ashley Jade is! The way this duet unfolded was nothing short of brilliant. All the characters were so intensely compelling! I had no idea what was going to happen or why, all the twists and turns were thrilling, and I could not put this book down!
I love everything I’ve read by Ashley Jade! And The Devil’s Advocate was an amazing addition and conclusion to The Devil. I adore these characters and the twisted story and holy hotness… all of the steam!!
If you’re an open minded reader then you have to pick this duet up and then you’ll without a doubt want to pick up all of Ashley’s books!
After reading book one in this duet, I couldn’t wait to start this, and it sure didn’t disappoint. Eden was in love with her stepfather Cain. Cain’s running for mayor, but Damien’s back in town and although he and Cain were once close, or so Damien thought, they are far from close now.
Cain and Damien are determined to outwit and out manoeuvre one another, while Eden is the pawn in their game. It’s a wild, sensual, sexy ride. Truths come out. Things aren’t always as they seem. The race is on to see who will outwit and outplay the other in their potentially deadly game. Cain is the master of manipulation and Eden’s an easy target, yet Damien draws her in. Sometimes the devil lurks where you least expect it.
Reading this was one wild roller coaster ride. I never knew what was coming. Loved it. Great duet.
You should read Devil in the Cards of Love collection. Book 2 The Devil’s Advocate picks up right were book one ends.
I devoured both books. The twist n turns blew my mind. Ashley know’s how to draw a reader in and allow them to get lost in her books. I really enjoyed this book up until the epilogue. I feel like there could have been another book. I would have liked to see how Eden and Damien’s relationship grew.
You seriously need to read both books, it was AMAZING!!!!
Wow. Just wow.
I cannot believe I waited so long to read this duet.
This little triangle was as amazing and fucked up and revengeful AF. But I loved EVERY.MINUTE.OF.IT.
Highly recommend this book! However know that this is NOT a standalone!!! You MUST read ‘The Devil’ first.
Holy wow!
This book had me gripped and shook! Wow! I can’t even begin to say how much I loved it. The Devil was amazing, but this blew my mind entirely. I loved every stressful and sexy moment of it.
The way Jade plays with your emotions is incredible. I totally felt for Eden and loved watching how she came in her own. And Damien? Well… What can I say? Tortured characters are my weakness and you get tortured and then some with him.
I didn’t think she could make me hate Cain any more than I did in the previous book, but Jade managed that.
Seriously – read this duet! It’s dark, seductive and oh so mind blowing.
First of all, you need to read an Ashley Jade book. Trust me on this. You fall so deeply into her web that you will find it difficult to get out. She will pull you in. She will drag into her spellbinding writing and her effervescent characters. She will make you fall in love with her passionate writing. She will make you fall in love with her deep words. She will make you fall in love with her dynamic characters. She will make you fall in love with every single book she delivers with so much artistry and beauty. Look at me, I am already a goner when it comes to her books. Her talent shines through the pages. Her wicked mind gives me mind blowing stories.
MIND BLOWING INDEED!!!! Her wicked mind gives me books like The Devil’s Advocate. A deeply and erotic dark adventure that chills your spine. A spinning tale with jaw dropping moments that keep you up all night. Wow. What the absolute heck did I read? Some stories hypnotize you. Some stories take your breath away. Some stories play with your mind. Some stories take you to the edge of madness. Yes, The Devil’s Advocate is such a story. A story that will shock you. A story that make you high. A story that will take away all your nights. A story that will make you believe in evil. Suspenseful. Edgy. Riveting. The Devil’s Advocate is a thrilling ride of devious proportions. A dangerous that will sink you in a rabbit hole filled with darkness and seduction. A sinister and twisty ride that distorted my world. Wow. The characters will scare you. The story will take on a roller coaster of epic proportions. Buckle up and take a peek at this dark delight.
The Devil’s Advocate is not a ROMANCE. No, it is a tale of REVENGE. A tale of deeply rich MENACE and CHAOS. A dark TREAT. A fantastic RIDE.
The Devil’s Advocate is book two of The Devil’s Playground duet. The title does fit this book perfectly, because for much of the book it is still not completely clear who The Devil really is, and who Eden, as the advocate, is supporting.
This book was really intense. I had trouble keeping up with all of the conflicting emotions Eden was feeling throughout, but I had to remember that she is a very young eighteen years old with not much life experience.
One question that I hoped would be answered after book one was, ‘Why did Cain hate Damien so much?’
I don’t think that question ever got answered, so for me it is a loose end that was not tied off. Much like this duet, that question will continue to stay with me for sometime to come.
Damien did stay true to character throughout this book, and I loved reading about the different relationships in his life that showed different facets of him. It gave him even more depth, and I was really invested in his character by the end of the book.
I recommend this book and this duet to anyone who likes to read romance outside what is considered “traditional”.
These were my first books by this author, and they won’t be my last, as she has found a new forever fan.
One of my favourite Duet.
The Devil’s Advocate: 5 Sinful Stars
Wow where do I start with this besides rendering me speechless!!? Ashley I tip my hat off to you on this epically crazy roller coaster ride of a book.
I loved how everyone (three main characters) had a voice and we were able to delve into their minds.
Eden who we got fragments and pieces of in the previous book, now became a forefront contender and stole the show!!
Loved how she has evolved from this innocent fragile deer and transformed into a wolf.
Of course throw in Cain and Damien, two powerful Alphaholes and we have deadly concoction of sinful dark sexiness and twisted minds.
Overall this story left me hanging off the edge of my seat with suspense, kept me on my toes guessing and left me shock in the end.
Thank you Ashley!!
One of my best read of the year for sure!!!
Because i haven’t read the first book i didn’t know what to expect but OMG This book!
I loved it so much.Yes there are things that are not for everyone to read but the author just blow my mind.
The writing is great and will keep your eyes glued to your kindle to find out what turns and twists will show up with every other page turned.
A mixed up situation and so many moments of awe between Cain and King and Eden. Can’t even say how i felt when reading all the sexy scenes because they are so hot and just left me mouth opened most of the time.
Read it without any expectation because this book is much more than you can expect
This is my first Ashley Jade ARC and read, ever—well I had to read The Devil. So technically my second, lol… and honestly, my mind is still not done digesting everything. I think I’m over analyzing it but reading this kinda left me reeling… I’m like, whaaat? Really? I think it’s ridiculous but not bad ridiculous, you know what I mean?
Before I dive in and share my thoughts, let me just put it out there that I’m not a prude but I do hail from a conservative background… I grew up reading Disney’s Fairy Tales and Sweet Valley High… and my Dad and my Mom are my ultimate couple goals. So yes, I guess that would make in a way vanilla and a traditionally huge romantic sap…
I had to read this with a very open mind and had to be circumspect with how I will put my thoughts into words because tropes like this one isn’t really my cup of tea.
Honestly, I don’t think there’s really anything romantic with sharing your beloved with another person… especially being physically present and allowing it in the first place, is just too twisted for me. I would never ever be okay with sharing my boyfriend or husband with anybody… flirty glances would already get my hackles up what more watch them getting it on, right? But its just me. I’m possessive that way.
I’ve read psycho-thrillers and dark romances before but this, this is… well… not bad but not my kind of thing either. I’m not trying to put down anybody’s preferences. I’m just writing my thoughts with as much candor as I can.
At first I didn’t even know this was book two… I saw in the IG stories of one of my author friends that it was part of a duet… and so I read book one, THE DEVIL—which was kinda’ interesting and somewhat new to me. Like I said before, it not my cup of tea… and yes, just because it’s not my cup of tea, doesn’t mean it’s bad.
Yes, there were times where I was like, “and she’s only 18??” or “is it really possible??” Or “does it really happen in real life?”
But despite the cringe-inducing parts, the book was still gripping. I was sort of mesmerized by it… I guess by it’s newness and intensity… and of course, let us appreciate how scorching the cover is… (sigh).
It was a wee bit fast paced… and it’s insta-lust and insta-love… I’m not a fan of those but it works with this story. I just wish there was a longer epilogue…
If you’re a fan of Sierra Simone, Nicole Edwards or a Pepper Winters fan, then this is the book to pick up next.
5 Cranky Stars
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! This is the book I’ve been impatiently waiting for since I finished book one. The wait was so worth it though. This book was everything and more. It picks up where book one leaves off, and Eden is still caught in the web of deception between Cain and Damien. Who can she trust? Especially when she finds out that her whole life has been one big lie!!!
This story brought the drama, anxiety, and some steamy scenes that had me clutching my pearls. The author really brought her A game with this story. It was non-stop thrills and drama. I had to go back and re-read several scenes to make sure that I had read it correctly.
If you love dark romances with a whole lotta drama, you will love this book. I will definitely recommend this book to everyone.
