They’ll tell you I seduced them. Used my looks and body to lure them into my playground. They’ll tell you I’m a sinner. A demon who held them captive with temptation and lust. They’ll tell you I’m evil. A monster obsessed with the both of them. They’ll tell you they made a deal with the devil. What they won’t tell you…is how much they liked it. I am all over about this book. My emotions are……….. I don’t know. This book will have you going in so many directions you’ll be so dizzy you’ll think you were on a carnival ride. But oh how fun that ride is. Although at times you’ll be equal parts turned on and angry as he** with the things going on.
This book is The Devil, but it’s the Preview for The Devil’s Advocate, another book to come. And oh my Gods do I want that book to get here.
In this book we meet Eden, Cain, and Damien. Cain and Damien have pasts with each other, not that great of pasts, but a past. Eden and Cain are in each others present because Cain was married for a short time to Eden’s mother before she died.
You get a glimpse of both worlds in this book. Past and present. The connection between the three, and the lines. How things connect and they got to where they are, became who they are.
Also goes on to show the extremes our emotions can become when fostered, just the right way, by the right person. And how far the person can fall, when they have nothing to hold them back from becoming what so many have called them, The Devil. And that Devil will wreck his destruction on those who’ve harmed him. No matter who gets caught in the crossfire.
Man… Remember the devil used to be an angel. It was never the other way around. The storyline weaved in the past and present. It was done beautifully. The main characters of the story, Carter and Damien, were downright hellish. They were two piranhas who were just circling the tank. I didn’t know who was going to strike first and who was going to taste the sweet blood of victory. There were so much manipulation. I didn’t know if the devil was the angel or if the one playing the angel was pure and utter evil.
Eden, who was also a main character, was naive, beautiful, and somewhat innocent. She wanted something that was forbidden. She was playing a game but didn’t know all the players. It was tragic to watch. I believe the author said it well… There are no heroes in this story. There ain’t even a good anti-hero. When you read this story, watch out because you might get played by the devil? Remember the devil used to be angel.
Are you looking for a steamy read but one that has a solid story line? This one is one to pick up!
The first in the duet, we get the beginnings of why these characters are the way they are. We have different points of views as well as flash backs to the past. You think the story is going in one direction and BAM, here’s the plot twist!
I love the simple mystery of it all. It’s not something I have to think too hard about but keeps me engaged in the story.
I can’t wait to dive into book two to see where everyone ends up.
This book has everything love, sex, and obsession. What will you do for what you want ? Great characters and storyline Highly recommended. Amazing Book. I was told to go in blind and it is totally worth it.
WHAT.THE.FUCK.
This book was nothing short of insanity!!
Honestly, I don’t even know what to say…or think…
Everything I thought I knew going into this book I was completely wrong about. If you think this is going to be your regular taboo story with an age gap you are wrong. This book tests the limits in so many different ways. The only thing I can say to people is don’t ignore the trigger/content warnings. If there are certain aspects that are a hard pass for you this book probably has them.
To me this was like one big ass prologue for what is to come in book two. Don’t misunderstand I freaking loved it but I think The Devil just touches on what is to come. You will be left with more questions than answers and if you are anything like me you will have to immediately grab book two The Devil’s Advocate and continue this twisted tale of fuckery.
This book blew my mind, surpassed my expectations, was totally unexpected.
From the morally questionable characters, to the sarcastic humor, engaging writing, original story line to the amazing plot twists and fantastic cliffhanger, I was glued to my seat through this journey like you wouldn’t believe.
My only critique… cringy sexy times.
Otherwise, went in blind and it was the best decision. Starting book 2 now!
First off, this is one of those books where once you start it you literally can not stop. I devoured this book. Honestly to fast because now that it’s over I already wish I could read it for the first time again because holy hell! This book was PHENOMENAL! 99.99% of this book was FILTHY and I fucking loved it. Like the kind of book where you need a cold shower afterwards! It was hot! and the complete and total mindfuck the ending threw me through! I am dumb founded. I was hurt. I was sad. And literally “WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED!” I wanted to throw my book across the room. But it’s to precious and I didn’t want to ruine it. This book is definitely a must read! It does include M/M MMF if that is not your thing I advise you to sit this one out
This book was phenomenal!
I can’t purchase the second book fast enough.
Holy shit, is my first thought. Talk about a mind fuck.. The twists and turns in this dual story are amazing. Just when you think you know something Ashley does a complete back flip. Let’s be honest, the level of intimacy is so good and compelling that I craved more. This book was so good because it is realistic. You could actually see yourself making similar decisions as Eden, Damien, or Cain. I bought both books and finished them in two days. Literally, I couldn’t put it down. To be honest, I don’t want too.
Ms. Jade this duet was amazing. You did a hell of a job.
Ashley Jade
I give this book 5 star rating! It was freaking(so wanna use the other f word) great! It was hot, dark and definitly not for the faint hearted( I think I got pregnant reading this story)! I really do suck at leaving reviews and I’m not giving this book the justice it really deserves. Give it a chance and read it yourself.
I can not recommend this book enough! It is book one in a duet that I simple could not put down. This was one of the darkest, steamiest romances I had seen in a long time. As the first book by Ashley Jade I didn’t know what to expect. However, it was recommended to me by someone I trust and I went for it. Not one regret! I can’t wait to read more of her work. These characters will stay with me for a very long time.
I was absolutely captivated by this tale. Well-developed, strong emotional rendering, and some twists thrown just to reel me in more. I liked the MM / MMF element to this storyline too, natural, and in fact, integral to the storyline. Excellent pace.
Some back and forth between past and present, but they were worked for me as they felt like living moments rather than anterior-described flashbacks.
This author has a talent for storytelling, heart-provoking character interactions, suspense, and dark themes. Just an amazing story and one of my top books of all time. Nothing compares to this duet.
Whoooaa
What a journey! The Devil took me places I was unprepared to go, for sure.
I don’t know that I’ve ever walked such a tightrope if emotions when it comes to characters in a book.
The perspectives in this book, and the history it gives just makes finishing this duet even better.
A million freaking stars for the angsty and turmoiled place that this left me in.
Ashley Jade Holy Wow ASHLEY JADE!!
In 2021, I’m pushing myself out of my comfort zone and reading books that are not my normal ‘troupe.’
This was my first trip with a ‘darker romance’ and let me tell, it was a WILD RIDE! The characters are wonderfully flawed and hauntingly delicious. I devoured this book in two days and can’t wait to read the next one in the duet.
The ending BLEW ME AWAY and it was something I never saw coming!
If you are on the fence about reading this book, DON’T BE! You will not regret it!
I went into this book not knowing pretty much anything. A friend told me it was good. That’s it. My mind is freaking blown away right now. I don’t want to ruin this for anyone with spoilers, so I’ll just say this: If you like dark, twisty and hot, READ THIS! Wow! I’m gonna dive right into book 2.
“Sometimes the only difference between love and obsession is a broken heart.”
This one was one I had been recommended to read by countless people and I will say it definitely lived up to the hype. I went in blind only knowing it was supposed to be taboo and steamy af. It definitely was that but that was just the surface level of this gem. The exploration of temptation and Good vs Evil it delves into was amazing and I couldn’t put it down.
Cain is a mayoral candidate in the weeks leading up to the election he’s worked for all his life. He’s got a bit of a problem though his Stepdaughter Eden. After his wife dies he continues to care for Eden but starts to be tempted when she’s about 17. He finally succumbs to this temptation but quickly the guilt creeps in. While Eden has been in love with Cain since childhood, her obsession only grows when he gives in. She also has agoraphobia having not left her home in almost 4 years. All she wants is for Cain to return her love. There is also another player from Cain’s past Damien and I adored his character. The flashbacks to them in high school were probably my favorite parts of the book.
This book will have you going back and forth on who really is the bad guy in this situation. I loved the mind games and the manipulations played by the characters and I cannot wait to read book two to see the outcome of the events at the end of this one. This was my first by Ashley Jade and it definitely wont be my last. This does end in a cliffhanger for book two in the duet.
Right, quite a few of my book girls had told me to pick this book up and man am I glad that I did! Sometimes when a book has hype, I worry that I won’t like it but I get it with this one!
It was hot af and I couldn’t put it down! I literally read it in less than five hours, which for me right now is really saying something.
I went in blind and I had no idea what to expect; what I got was not what I was expecting but it really was 1000% what I was needing! I totally suggest going into this book blind; it really is worth it!
So yeah, read this book! The sex is fire, the story surprised me which rarely happens and I just wanted MORE, MORE, MORE!
Bring on book two!
Fantastic read! This is my first read by this author and it wont be my last! I loved all the sexiness!! Wow! She can write a damn good story! I’m off to read book 2.
This book is AWESOMEEEE!!! See my full review for Book 2 in the duet, The Devil’s Advocate, both of which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
delicious psychological thriller meets dark romance. Loved it!
