Dark and irresistible, they call him the Devil for a reason.
The moment he touched her, held her, kissed her, she knew the dangers. She should have said no.
But unlike him, she was only human.
When Joshua McClain is hired as the Seattle Knights new head coach—a move that raises more than a few eyebrows—he’s determined to prove he’s not the same hot-headed troublemaker he was in his playing days. … hot-headed troublemaker he was in his playing days. However, when he meets beautiful, exasperating, irresistible Darcy Wells, his good intentions are put to the test.
As the first woman general manager of an NFL team, Darcy knows she has a lot to prove and everything to lose. She can’t afford to let herself be distracted by any man, let alone the impossibly arrogant Joshua McClain.
Joshua and Darcy have two goals. First? Return the Knights to their Super Bowl-winning glory days. Second? Do everything in their power to keep their hands off each other.
What happens when an almost reformed bad boy and a good woman with an unexpected wild side clash? Turns out there might be just enough devil in him and her to satisfy them both.

This story is about Darcy and Joshua (Mac). She is his new boss and they clash constantly. However, they are both passionate about football and their jobs, so they learn to work together for the team. But there is a spark of something else! This was a great start to a new series by Mary J Williams. I love all her books!
I really enjoyed this book but it was more due to Darcy. I totally have a girl crush on her. Another wonderful read from this author.
Yes!! I was thrilled when I saw this new book; a continuation or ‘new season’ of the One Pass Away series. In this new series we get to meet new characters and new situations, but we also get to catch up with our favorites in the prior series.
Darcy is the newly minted General Manager of the Seattle Knights football team. Her love of football began early in life and she KNOWS the game!
Joshua ‘Mac’ McClain is the new Head Coach. After an injury took him out of the game, he’s coming back in a different role.
With a female owner of the team, Riley Preston, Darcy is given her chance because she’s good at her job, not because of her gender. Mac isn’t so sure this isn’t the beginning of a ‘Good old girls’ club and is not sure how he will work with Darcy. He does trust Riley because she’s proven she knows her stuff, but Darcy, although she’s worked her way up the ranks in other teams, is unproven.
Watching the attraction that both Darcy and Mac feel towards each other, some missteps on both their parts, and finally realizing they can have it all, makes for a delightful afternoon of reading. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series.
This is a great read! A well written romance full of mystery, humour, some hot and steamy romance and a little football! Focused on Darcy and Mac and their complicated friendship / relationship this is a fun and easy curl up on your sofa and enjoy read!

Joshua McClain was a force to be reckoned with on the football field years ago, and he wasn’t hesitant to take advantage of the women that came his way either. Unfortunately, a career-ending injury forces a career change, and he is now the head coach of the Seattle Knights, an NFL team. The new General Manager is a woman: Darcy Stratham. The owner is a woman as well, Riley Preston, and she is creating the team she wants with the hiring of these two leaders. Joshua and Darcy meet during a press ‘meet and greet’ and Josh has a few preconceived notions about women and football. Darcy has a few preconceived notions herself about guys who are handed everything easily and who rely on their looks. Both protagonists have a bit of growing up to do, as well as making a few changes in their perceptions of each other. That is what makes this such an interesting story. Mary J. Williams takes the NFL and turns it on its head in a realistic and believable way.
Neither of these characters are afraid to take chances. They both know what they want, and they have to figure out how to get there—professionally as well as personally. There is a bit of added suspense that occasionally feels like an afterthought, when readers learn that Darcy is being stalked. She wants to keep it quiet to keep from being perceived as weak or needy, but her safety is important to Riley and to other characters in this book. Eventually, Joshua finds out and does what he can to help. There are some interesting moments in this book. It is very clever of Darcy to take Joshua away for an afternoon to try to understand him better. Before that event, those two are missing the strengths of the other character. During that time together, they finally grow to understand each other a little better, and gain a deeper respect for the skills and knowledge of the other.
The tension is uneven, especially where it pertains to Darcy’s stalker, but other than that, it is a really good story. It’s not unreasonable to think that there are women who know as much as some men know about football. The pace is pretty even, and most of the characters are very likeable. There are a few stereotypes that are presented, and eventually busted, but that is a small part of the story. This is a fun read!
I am a fan of the One Pass away stories and characters and was excited when the Mary J Williams announced that she was continuing the series. Mac and Darcy’s story did not disappoint, neither was looking for love, but love was looking for them. Strong female leads, swoony men and talking about football is a winning combination for me. Getting glimpses into the former Knights players and their mates is just icing on the cake.
“Perfection is overrated. A few flaws are what makes us interesting.” ~ Darcy
A fantastic series continues with the next generation of NFL team Seattle Knights.
With an equally wonderful and lovable couple.
Two of the stubbornest characters I’ve ever read about meet at the Seattle Knights, as GM and head coach, both full of prejudices about each other … Sparks are bound to fly … and, boy, do they fly!
More enemies than colleagues at first, Mac and Darcy butt heads at any given chance. Until one day they realize that they have more in common than they initially thought …
Add some threats to this explosive thread and you have an addictive story that you can’t put aside. I’m starving to read more about this new generation of Seattle Knights!
