Ethan Standish, fourth Duke of Dunmoor, is a man cursed by a past that refuses to let him go. Twenty years after enduring captivity as a prisoner of war, he has withdrawn from society, living ensconced at his estate. He takes no visitors and no risks. He needs nothing and no one, finding comfort in his solitude, with only his demons to keep him company. That all changes the day Catherine … Catherine Kirkcaldy arrives on his doorstep.
The governess for the children of the late Earl MacLendon, Cat has come to the estate of the enigmatic Duke of Dunmoor to inform him of his new status as their guardian. Despite her initial misgivings, she finds herself drawn to this contradiction of a man, a man with a fearsome reputation but a kind heart no one is allowed to see.
A single letter exposes a shared connection with their pasts, setting Ethan and Cat on a path of danger and revenge. But even as Ethan pursues retribution for the past that should have never been, he finds himself falling for Cat, a woman with a ready smile and an open heart. Can he bury his long-held demons in exchange for a future with Cat? Or will he forever be the Devil of Dunmoor?

I thought it was a good read.
The Devil of Dunmoor – Meggan Connors – There is a devil in Dunmoor, but it’s not who I thought it would be! The reminded me of Elizabeth Hoyt’s Four Soldiers series which is always a good thing! Plus Scots and BatB vibes! Happy Reading!
I probably would have given this a 4.5 if I could have only because the ending wasn’t done well. It was a good ending but felt rushed. But the story and characters were great. Even with some of the weird plot it was a page turner and I really felt like the characters were real. I’m so glad Cat found Ethan!
Another great read from Meggan Connors! The main characters were strong & lovable, the storyline kept me interested & I had trouble putting this book down. Can’t wait to read her other books!
Ethan is a man who has isolated himself from society as a result of captivity, lost loves, and friends. His mother is vicious to anyone who stands in her way of getting what she wants; even her son. He meets Cat who changes everything and its extremely difficult for Ethan to accept.
Wonderful is probably too strong for the characters, but I did enjoy them. You felt the connection and romance without lots of steamy love episodes. Very entertaining – I call these my “beach books”. A good break from the heavier books.
Tortured and indentured, the Duke of Dunmoor comes home a broken man, hiding from society. Family and friends have been alienated, or at least he believes that to be true until a governess arrives on his doorstep with his former best friend’s children in tow. Bittersweet with a surprise villain (or not such a surprise, but unexpected).
Sweet story. Believable characters.
I kept reading and hoping that the book would become interesting. It really didn’t.
It was a fun read.
I
The heroine was one of the most enjoyable female leads I have yet to find. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to be able to express just what was so compelling to me.
This one defeated me. I don’t like to give negative reviews since God knows I can’t write a good letter, much less a novel. But the characters in this story were not interesting, and the plot development was slow. Better editing may have been able to save it, and I would try this author again, but this first effort could not be finished (I made it a little over halfway).
Loved this book! An easy read and I love the characters
A fun read with a twist at the end.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was just different enough and had enough twist to make it a wonderful rainy afternoon read
I enjoyed every page!
I enjoyed the strength of the female character, determined to do what she thought best despite being a woman at a time when females were considered weak, and not very bright. She was neither. The male main character was typically maie until he ran into her, and she changed him forever. It is a love story, and one most readers of romance novels will find enjoyable. There is lovemaking, but is handled well, and with good taste. I can recommend this book to anyone who is into romantic love stories.
Egad what a mess of a book! It began not too badly but then the plot got beyond ridiculous.
unexpectingly good i thought it was going to be like all the others ive read like this but it wasnt…
I really enjoyed this book as it was totally unpredictable with characters who you really liked.
