The Devil Duke is the name given to an English gentleman who is notorious for the number of women he dates. He can’t go anywhere, not even to America, without the paparazzi following him. They get a picture of him just as a cute little urchin trips and falls into his arms. Not a good look when it hits the front page of a tabloid. Izzy De Luca is the woman in his arms and a story to explain this to the British people is hatched. She will be paid a hefty sum to act as his new bride with hopes of rehabilitating his image. She finally relents, but is not overly happy to try to fit into the world of wealth and privilege, when she grew up as an orphan. She surprises the Duke with her quirky behavior, attitude and language. When she uses street language and particularly odd phrases, it sends him out of his mind. I had to laugh that she purposely goaded him with her light-hearted, unstuffy behavior. His daughter, Charlotte, comes alive with Izzy. For the first time in a long time, she laughs with joy and they have imaginative fun with each other. It is a sweet and hysterical story of turning lives on end and upsetting the norm. As with most fairytales, there must be a horrid stepmother. Trevor’s past is filled with women and one in particular has always been there. Abigail isn’t going to give up without a fight because he is supposed to be hers and she will find a way to break them up. Trevor comes to realize that Izzy is changing his life in more ways than one and he wants her to be with him always. He’s going to have to change from a devil duke into a monogamous man if he intends to capture Izzy’s heart. Izzy makes him earn a happy ending and she made me smile with the stipulations she set forth. An endearing story! Virginia Ferguson is one of my favorite narrators and she did a great job with this story. Her British accent fits all her characters and the voices she uses for each are admirable. So often, a narrator can add extra enjoyment to an e-book and this is one!
I love, Love, LOVED this story! It’s so much more than a stuffy British story. This is the story of a light hearted free spirit..a fairy..if you will. Everyone who meets her is enchanted. She is looked upon with favor when she meets a man dropped from the heavens. Little does she know he might look delicious but his attitude needs adjustment.
Izzy is a delight to read! She makes me smile just reading about her. The way she portrays herself and doesn’t hold back is inspiring. Izzy is the star of this book. Trevor is her counterpart. He is stiff, formal and wildly attractive. He needs a proper wife to dispel rumors of his womanizing ways. I loved that he couldn’t figure out why every liked Izzy so much. She was like a puzzle to him. I enjoyed Travis as well but Izzy easily out ranked him.
I could listen to this one again and again! It made me laugh and shake my head. These two together (Izzy and Travis) are such a joy to read. The Epilogue is one of my favorite chapters. I could really see the changes and the fun that they have between them. Insert *Smile* here.
I did listen to this on audio. Virginia Ferguson did an outstanding job. Very pleasant on my ears and listening to the two different accents was great. I liked her “fake” British accent that Izzy did. Ha Ha!
** audio book review **
I just absolutely loved this book. I was a little bummed when it ended. The Devil Duke (Trevor) and Izzy couldn’t be more opposite. Trevor needs to fix his image and stop being a playboy and focus on fatherhood. Izzy is a young woman who has had a hard life but isn’t one to dwell on it. A chance encounter with a tabloid picture making up a relationship has them in a unique arrangement. She will be his wife for image only. Only their opposite attraction makes for one great love story. Trevor is used to everyone doing as he says and expects Izzy to listen to his commands on how she should be. Well Izzy isn’t like most women he knows. She is stubborn and independent and very unique. I absolutely adored her. Their interactions had me cracking up through out the book. This narrator did a great job in expressing the personalities of both characters in her narration. I couldn’t get enough of The Devil Duke and Izzy. I can’t wait to read the second book in this series.I also must note that this author wrote the most beautiful love scene I have ever read/heard. Romance fans definitely need to read/listen to this book.
Izzy Is a poor American girl, Trevor is the rich English Aristocratic. Their story is a unique twist on rich playboy meets common girl. The story is witty and clever with so much humor I laughed all the way through it. Definitely could be a Hallmark Movie
The Devil Duke by Tessa Bowen is a modern day fairytale romance about a young American girl who is offered a sizable sum to marry a Duke to repair his reputation. I listened to this book on audio Narrated by Virginia Ferguson. Virginia Ferguson did a great job narrating with the different voices she used for the characters. However, it did take me a bit to get used to the voice she uses for Izzy because she is supposed to be in her 20’s but sounds more like a 13 year old girl. This is the first book of Tessa Bowen’s that I have read and look forward to reading more of her books in the future. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes the modern day fairytale romances.
This was my first Tessa Bowen’s book, and won’t be the last! I love this modern Cinderella story! The story is beautifully written. The Duke (Trevor) and Isabelle (Izzy) are both great characters. They are total opposites, but they share a strong chemistry. Izzy is a strong sassy and feisty woman. Trevor was a manwhore before Izzy, and it’s really delightful to see him fall in love with Izzy. The little Charlotte is also a cute character. The storyline is filled with hilarious scenes, sexy and steamy scenes, and romantic scenes. I love the ending! Now, I can’t wait for the next book in the Series! Virginia Ferguson has done an amazing job with the narration. I love her voice. I really enjoyed my listening and totally recommend this audiobook. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
