This book took a while to get me interested but once it did, I went through it quickly.
My reason for only 4 stars was that the protagonist’s arrogance annoyed me in the beginning. I’m no dummy – I have an MS in Math and a rather extensive vocabulary. But I found myself often hitting words on my Kindle for clarification. I felt that was detrimental to my enjoyment of the story.
Nevertheless, I will probably give this author one more try.
This is a detective story in which the object is to find the truth about an important public figure. The difficulty lies in the fact that the community does not want to find the truth. The detective persists and it leads to a surprise explosive ending.
Great start to a fun series. I finished this book and had to get the next one until I reached the end. The story keeps you guessing until the end. Great characters, i loved listening to August argue with Kix even though Kix is a baby.
Thoroughly enjoyable action-packed read!
First I have read by this author. I like this book so much I read books 1 and 2 in this series right after it. Great storyline and interesting characters laced with witty humor. I will be reading more books in this series
Intense with lots of twists and turns.
This book was very good. Interested in reading more by this Author.
DNF. Boring
A genuine down to earth P>I> Loved the humor.
Vocabulary expander.
An horrific subject and a detective who wisecracks his way through every conversation, does not a good book make. A writer who thinks he can improve on Robert B Parker, failed. Not for me
The story held my interest but I found the “hard-boiled” way the characters often conversed irritating.
Not great literature but quite entertaining. Her books usually are.
I liked this book so much I ordered another from Amazon and that is a rare thing for me.

Tense. Very good read.
I was expecting more. The book is written in the first person and the hero is not everything he thinks he is. Story seemed to drag.
The author really has a hang up with the priesthood; pity he paints all with the same brush–has he has in other books. Otherwise, the story is twisted and has an unexpected ending. The main character is obstinate which turns out to be his best quality.
A good action mystery with interesting characters. I enjoyed the witty protagonist as he follows the clues. My only criticism is another character who is engaged to someone else but desperately pursues the protagonist. This disconnect is never explained, and since it popped up throughout the story, it was jarring.
