A love that spans the edges of the universe…

Unfortunately for her, there is no next stop. The crew is planning a delivery that could take months with no way off the ship until the package is delivered.
When Analia is discovered by the fearsome demon captain, Sebastian, she must adapt to her new role on the ship and learn to master her powers…while contending with her freshly awakened desire for the brutally handsome demon.
Can she handle a demon’s passion?

I really,do like this book ..keeps you reading
What I enjoyed: Close to midway through the novel, the story took a turn I didn’t fully anticipate. As I learned more about Analia’s past, I discovered I genuinely wanted to follow her journey to the ultimate end. Therefore, I will be picking up the next installment (this is book one of the Shadow Quest series).
Sebastian and Analia are charming enough. Sebastian, the demon captain of the Marada, is super sexy and very Alpha male. Analia starts out timid, and as her confidence grows, she becomes the emotional anchor Sebastian needs.
All of this inevitably leads to what made the story less likable. The couple is a bit stereotypical. I honestly almost stopped reading it, although when the plot began to thicken, I was glad I didn’t.
Typically sci-fi is not my go-to, but The Demon’s Possession was a nice diversion from my normal genre.
Sebastian (think horned Han Solo type) and his crew are one big dysfunctional family. They all have their secrets and troubled pasts but generally they get along just fine. Sebastian, his siblings and their friends have a close bond, whilst walking the line as galactic go-getters (Space Pirates really!).
After completing a mission for one of their slimier customers Seb and co realise that they have picked up a stowaway, Analia (Anya). it soon becomes clear that Analia was scooped up by her “master” when she was so young that she doesn’t even know where she comes from or the name of her people. Seb and co do the best they can to settle her into life on board. But why does Seb have this intense need to make sure she is safe? he has a bit of a past with conniving females so he should be super wary.
Anya is just such an innocent character, every new experience is a joy for her. She really comes into her own with her little jobs, interacting with the crew and all while hiding her “secret”. Seb is the perfect mix of scoundrel, scallywag and Alpha hero. He’s pushy and gentle in equal measures. The crew soon absorb Analia into their ranks with few exceptions and the camaraderie is brilliant to see.
Darius is the kind of baddie you don’t mind hating – he is just total scum. The crew hopefully will have more adventures and rid the universe of more of his ilk!
A good snappy pace, engaging characters, snarky familial dialogue and multidimensional supporting cast make this a great read!
The Demon’s Possession is the first book in the Shadow Quest series. This spicy sci-fi romance focuses on the relationship between Analia and Sebastian. Analia, captured when she was a young child, lived in captivity and was abused, used, and tortured. It wasn’t until she escaped onto Sebastian’s ship that she felt free. Unfortunately, her captor is relentless in his pursuit of Analia.
As Sebastian falls for the kind-hearted and trusting stowaway, he realizes he will not rest until Analia is safe. This includes protecting her as well as teaching her to protect herself. I love this! He is more concerned about her ability to protect herself than he is his own alpha-male tendencies.
Underneath his gruff, bad-ass exterior, Sebastian is strong, caring, gentle, and selfless. Analia uses her time on the ship, with Sebastian’s encouragement and guidance, learning how to defend and provide for herself. They both still see the good in others, and they both value friendship and love even as they fear it.
The other characters in the book are also well developed and dynamic. My favorites are Sebastian’s effervescent and sometimes snarky sister and his cook/best friend. Sonya is a tremendous support to her brothers and to Anya, and her selfless yet no-nonsense attitude is a delightfully amusing combination. Other crew members, the antagonists, and even the minor characters have defined and realistic personalities, despite the fact that they are from a variety of different planets.
Let’s talk about my favorite part – the romance! The chemistry between Sebastian and Analia is palpable. Initially, both characters seem reluctant to give themselves wholly to another. Their past experiences have wounded them deeply as Sebastian and his siblings were betrayed by their mother, and Analia is a victim of abuse. What I like is that they help each other heal. Their connection is much deeper than just simple attraction and has the potential to be a great and long-lasting love. Plus, their romance is steamy! It’s a sweet and spicy build-up of explosively sexy and sensual fantastic-ness!
In addition to the likable characters and sexy romance, the plot-line is intriguing. Sebastian is transporting a mysterious package to a ruthless pirate. His entire ship is protected, but no one can leave until the package is delivered. When the ship is under attack, Analia fears she must reveal a secret that could change everything. This aspect of the story, as well as Analia’s search to find the truth about her past is fascinating.
This is an engaging read with interesting characters and a well-paced plot. Thanks so much to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This is the first in the Shadow Quest Series by Kiersten Fay. This was my first title of hers and I was immediately hooked and read the entire series after finishing this one. Anya has been held captive and abused on another ship and sees an opportunity to escape when she stows away on a merchant ship run by demons. Once she is discovered, she remains on the ship and begins to develop relationships with the crew members, particularly with the captain, Sebastian, with who she shares an immediate and mutual attraction. The captain and crew are on a mission which they must complete before they can drop her off and it eventually becomes apparent that there is more to her than initially seemed.
This book was impossible to put down. There is an underlying story that carries through all the books in the series, with each book being the story of one of the crew of the ship and their mate. The books can be read standalone, but once you read this one, you’ll want to keep on going to find out not only what happens with each of the crew member’s own story but also the overall adventure that they are all drawn into.
The Demon’s Possession is the first book in the Shadow Quest series. A sci-fi/fantasy romance by Kiersten Fay. The heroine Analia is a slave, mistreated and abused for as long as she can remember. When her ‘owner’ Darius begins to sexually abuse her enough is enough and she escapes taking refuge aboard the Marada, the ship belonging to space pirate & demon Sebastian where for the first time in her life she is treated with kindness albeit tinged with suspicion as she refuses to discuss her past. But her secret abilities mean Darius isn’t about to let his prized possession escape so easily bringing danger not only for Analia but the crew who she has begun to think of as family.
Science fiction isn’t usually a genre I would read but having read books by this author before I decided to give it a go and I wasn’t disappointed. The character development of Analia as she goes from being a beaten and dejected slave, to her joyful reactions when experiencing new things where she was almost childlike in her delight until finally she has the courage to stand up for herself and those she loves was so well written I was mentally cheering her on as I read. There is also a strong cast of secondary characters and an ongoing plot line which makes me eager for more books in this series. If you are a fan of the Sci-fi series Serenity you will love this book.
A ‘re read for me of what was the first sci fi romance I read and I still love these characters as much as I did the first time. Anya has escaped from a man who treated her appallingly and hides on the ship that has been trading with him. She’s scared, quite literally starving and yet still so hopeful that this time she will finally make it. Sebastian doesn’t understand how his beautiful stowaway came to be on his spaceship but he’s determined to protect her. Anya finds friendship and a new purpose but has secrets too deadly to share but as danger threatens everyone she’s come to care for her past has well and truly caught up !
I loved these characters the first time I read this and I still loved them this time around. I particularly enjoyed the camaraderie and teasing that goes on but who am I kidding ? This story has such a sexy romance running through it and it doesn’t matter how big, scary or tough Sebastian is he definitely melts when it comes to his Anya ! Discount her at your peril though because she might be dainty and naive but she’s certainly brave and loyal. There is a resolution of sorts here but it’s left in an intriguing way that just invites the reader to continue the journey and boy what a quest it’s going to be !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
A spaceship, a stowaway, a demon captain and a evil nemesis. OH MY!!
This was a enjoyable change of pace from my same old same old. Sebastian is a demon and the captain of his ship. Analia has been a slave for as long as she can remember. She stows away as her only escape from the horror she has endured.
They are destined mates and there attraction is immediate.
I loved all the quirky characters and am looking forward to reading there books.
There is a little resemblance to a couple of other series I have read in the past but not enough to take away from this story.
Thank you NetGalley and the author for a copy of this book.
THE DEMON’S POSSESSION by Kiersten Fay is the first book in the Shadow Quest science fiction romance series. Sebastian is the captain of the merchant ship Marada and works to keep his family and crew safe as they deliver cargo to a variety of places and ships. Analia has been a slave for almost as long as she can remember. To try for freedom, she hides away on Sebastian’s ship. What follows is an entertaining tale of romance and danger.
Sebastian and Analia are compelling characters and someone you can root for. Their motivations and conflicts seem believable and well defined. The secondary characters enhanced the story and led this reader to believe that there could be several sequels. The characters were also relatable and their reactions felt genuine. There were enough stakes and tension to make the book a page-turner. There are several steamy love scenes in the book. While several major aspects of the story were wrapped up, there were some cliffhangers.
Overall, the book was appealing, entertaining, thought-provoking, absorbing and at times heartbreaking. Themes include slavery, war, building a new life, friendship, family, romance, treachery and much more. This is the second book that I have read by this author. I enjoyed this more than the first book in her Creatures of Darkness series. I look forward to reading more of the Shadow Quest series.
I won a digital copy of this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. Thanks go to Goodreads, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.
Wow this was a gr8 story. Analia is a very strong, yet innocent woman. Sebastian is a hot, sexy man (demon). Just when I thought things were set, something changed. I truly enjoyed this, and am looking forwrd to the second book. 5 Thumbs up
4.5/5.0
If one is in the mood for an awesome si-fi romance this one will fit the bill perfectly! It is rich and emotional, has enough action to keep it interesting and the love story is absolutely delicious! Sebastian and Amalia have taken top-spot on my all-time favorite characters list in this genre for sure!
I especially love how, even though both are extremely drawn to each other and the chemistry is smokin hot, the author allows the relationship to grow organically. It was beautifully done and gives the reader’s heart time to really become invested in the characters happiness, making it much more moving and unforgettable!
Very fun book to read. I recommend it. Especially on a day where you just want to escape or be entertained.
Loved it… look forward to reading the other…great job.
Took a chance on a new author with this one. So very glad I did! Kiersten Fey is a phenomenal writer; the story is well written, well edited, and just generally good. The plot kept my attention and didn’t have me wanting to set it down. I enjoyed all of the characters that showed up in the book, and looked forward to picking up the next one when I finished.
I went in looking for a story about demons (it’s one of the subjects I like), and ended up with a combination of that and alien. Turned out to be phenomenal anyway. Little fairy girl is the sweetest thing ever despite a horrible life. The demon who falls in love with her is absolutely adorable. I love the fight it takes for them to get there.
Having finished all of the Shadow Quest series up until now, I can say this is a definite must read. Along with the rest!
Wow! I LOVE this new series from Kiersten! She has ability to take you to another world, whether sci-fi or paranormal, an immediately immerse you in it. This has everything – a woman with little knowledge of her past escaping her abusive captor by sneaking onto another ship, a handsome demon captain who has closed off his heart after a betrayal to him and his brother and sister, intrigue, suspense, danger, witty banter and an attraction between Analia and Sebastian that that burns up the pages! It’s full of twists and turns, tons of action and entwined in all of that is a love story that will capture your heart.
The settings are great in this story.
This story is a enjoyable read. The premise of this story is a King sent his wife and Queen and thier three daughters (Analia, Nadua, & Kyra) away from their home planet Evlon as it was being attacked and a war was starting. Each book will be about a daughter. This book centers on Analia (Anya). She got taken 400 yrs ago, but to her it’s only 200 yrs. A lot of her memories are in there and she’s slowly getting them back. So the 200 yrs she’s been a slave of Captain Daruis of the Extarga space ship. At the start of the story she is escaping on to the Marada space ship and hiding out until they reach a planet that she can escape onto. She starts dying in the little hole she’s been hiding in and she is found by Sebastian who is the captain and also a demon. He takes her to a doctor who makes her well. I forgot to mention that Anya has powers. She can power up ships and change the programming. She can also do things mentally without touching them. So she hides all this information from Sebastian and his crew. Darius used her for this power and then wanted her physically too. So that is why she escaped plus he did kill her mother when he took them and Anya who was only 5 yrs old.
So after she’s around Sebastian and some of his crew Marik, Sonya, Calic and Xander. She finds out more and more about herself throughout the story and she meets other people along the way that help her remember like Ethanuel. Then when her and Sebastian finally get together it gets hot and steamy. Plus she is his mate. Can’t wait to read the next one. I really like the space adventure this turns into.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book and enjoyed the story very much.
Overall rating 4.6 **
I am new to this author so I truly enjoyed this style of writing. It feels to me like blended genres which totally got me hooked. The characters became real and leaped out to hold my interest. This authors writing tortured me, I felt the buildup between characters and I just wanted to push them together but I realize that is the whole point….to keep me reading. Needless to say, my interest never dropped ! As a first exposure this book did its job because I can’t wait to get my hands on book 2! All of my reviews are always voluntary.
Well developed characters that make this space adventure gold. Anya’s has been through terrifying & terrible things yet she still has the strength to trust & love. Enjoyed this read throughly.
I voluntarily agreed to review this book, and was given an Advanced Reader Copy to do so.
This is my honest and unbias opinion of the story. I loved reading this book very much. I fell in love with the strong characters and the story as it all unfolded. I can’t wait to read what the next book .
This is the first book of this author’s that I’ve read, but I can guarantee it won’t be my last. Up until about three months or so ago, I steered clear from anything that had “sci-fi” in the description because it wasn’t my “thing”–or at least, I thought it wasn’t–but I took a chance on a Ruby Dixon novel and I’ve been devouring any sci-fi romance I could find since. When the opportunity arose to get a copy of this book to read, I jumped on it. I’m so glad I did.
Analia has spent her entire life in captivity being abused and misused by her captor. She doesn’t remember being shown any kindness in all her life and when the opportunity arises to escape, she jumps at it. Little does she realize, her life is about to change tremendously.
She stows away on a merchant ship with the hopes of escaping her terrible life. Once on board, while she’s hiding pretty much in plain sight, she discovers that the Marada has no intention of stopping–not for several months, at least. Hungry, scared, feeling alone but determined, Analia decides she would rather face certain death than return to her evil captor. Once her decision has been firmly made, she lies in wait–either for freedom or for death. When she finds herself face to face with the captain of the ship she’s taken refuge on, she discovers feelings she’s never had before … but will he prove to be just as bad as the other men she’s come into contact with before?
Sebastian is a demon–and in this book, it’s meant literally. He’s one of just a few survivors of his race and he’s become bitter and jaded from past experience and the treatment he’s received throughout his lifetime. Demons are viewed as volatile, despicable, vile beings who are treated as the monsters others claim they are.
Sebastian also refuses to fall in love. He’s seen exactly what loving and being mated to someone has done to his brother, who is nothing but a shell of who he once was after being betrayed by his own mate. Sebastian has no desire to be hurt in the same way; it was bad enough feeling his own betrayal with someone he wasn’t in love with.
Everything changes when Sebastian first lays eyes on Analia. Though she’s dirty and smelly and can barely keep her eyes open, Sebastian is inexplicably drawn to her. The feeling is mutual and Analia doesn’t know what to do with these newfound emotions and physical stirrings. To say they drive each other crazy is quite the understatement–in more ways than one.
Without giving too much away, their relationship progresses and I greatly enjoyed the way Ms. Fay developed these characters and their emotions. They don’t fall for each other overnight and the tension that’s felt throughout the story is so beautifully written; I could feel the emotions these characters were dealing with as I read every page. I’m normally pretty strict about reading books that are the first person POV, but it honestly didn’t matter for me when reading this book because it was just that good.
This story was full of passion, romance, a determined and goal-oriented heroine, an alpha male, and it even had some humor thrown in for good measure. I enjoyed it and will more than likely be reading the rest of the series as I’m dying to know what happens with the other characters
I will say, though, if you have any triggers, be aware that there are some slightly graphic details about abuse in this story that could potentially be upsetting.
If this book sounds like your thing, I highly recommend it!
