This story follows a woman who goes back to her home town with her husband and two children for her fathers funeral. Thing is, she hasn’t spoke to him in 20 years and does not have good memories of the man. Her and her family decide to stay in the family home for a night and that’s when things start getting downright scary. This book is definitely a page turner. The ending was not predictable at all and I had a hard time putting the book down. If you are into scary books you will definitely enjoy this one.
This book took me for a scary ride! Stayed up late last night finishing the book around one in the morning as it escalated from halfway into the book till the end. The book is about a woman that attends her fathers funeral and goes back home to the house where she grew up. Her and her family arrive at the home and decided to stay there for a little while.
What she doesn’t know is that the house has entities, plus a demonic one that rules the house and property. The storyline and characters grab you from the get go and doesn’t let you go till the last page.
I hadn’t read this author before, but if the other books are like this one, then I have some more scary reads to look forward to in the future! Four stars for this one!
Starts up the scary right away and doesn’t stop till the end of the story. Read it in one sitting and still haven’t forgotten the scary feeling it gave me.Highly recommend it. Really good haunted house book for the readers of Brian Keane and Lee Mountford
Great book by a Great Horror Author.
Probably the best in Occult Horror. This whole series is turn your lights on scary.
WOW!!! So glad I found this author through bookbub. . .got first book on a whim. GREAT find!!! Love his stories!
This book reminded me a lot of “The Shining”. Take a normal family and put them in a place that seems to have a demonic presence and what do you think will happen? Stay tuned to find out!
Danni Morgan left her childhood home as soon as she could due to her father’s abuse and has never been back. When her abusive father dies, Danni’s husband, John, thinks it would be a good idea to finally face the things that have haunted her from that part of her life. Accompanied by their two teenage children, Leah and Alex, they make the trip to finalize the details of her father’s estate and give him a proper burial.
When each of the family members start to see things, such as leering men and creepy old ladies, Danni decides that enough is enough. However, by this time, John seems to have come under the spell of whatever changed her father’s behavior so many years ago.
This story was fairly creepy and ending was somewhat unexpected. The descriptions of the encounters with the demonic being were truly horrific and the narrator’s voice for it were great! There were a few things in the book that seemed unnecessary in my opinion (namely the goat), but all in all, this was a good horror tale. This narrator continues to be one of my favorites and his performance always add a lot to my listening pleasure.
I enjoyed the addition of the historical background for this story and the two bonus tales at the end. I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book and chose to review it.
I read this book a second time.
The first time I did get caught up early on with how it felt like the “same old formula — house with demons; nice family goes to remote house and demons haunt or possess anyone who enters”
HOWEVER… second read (can’t tell you what “possessed” me to read it again, honestly) about 1/3 of the way in or so it becomes the authors’ own very original story and it is compelling and scary. Mountford is an excellent writer.
Glad I tried again
