If Ellie Locke dies, so does her sister, so when Ellie is murdered by a water god, it’s a no-brainer to cheat death by accepting a deal from a stranger with the power to freeze time…until she discovers he has just set her up as a target for sociopathic serial killer with excellent magical skills. Her only chance to survive her new job as an agent in a magical crime-fighting organization is her … is her partner, a deliciously sexy half-demon who needs to stay alive as badly as she does. Neither of them has the magical ability to defeat a sociopath who has already killed seventy-six of their predecessors, but who needs skills when you have incentive?
Smoke, shadows, a hostile demon dad from the beyond, and highly paid assassins sent by her loving parents make things a little complicated for Ellie and her new partner, but what’s a pair of breasts and an intimate moment for, if not to save themselves and the world?
And this is just the start.
NOTE: Do you see the gold medallion on the cover? That means this book contains Super Secret Bonus Scenes, which are extremely cool and contain secrets you won’t find anywhere else.
About the Author: S.A. Bayne (aka Stephanie Rowe) is a gift to the universe, at least according to her dogs, and everyone knows dogs are world-class judges of people. She was taught to play by the rules, but after suffering numerous apoplectic breakdowns, she realized that she had to ditch the rules, figure out her own way to live, and then turn that into a high-octane, irreverent, unpredictable-as-hell, paranormal that will make your day so much better just by reading it. And yes, she is also New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Stephanie Rowe, winner of the 2018 RITA® Award for Best Paranormal Romance. Because she’s nifty like that.

Ellie Locke & a deliciously sexy half-demon have one thing in common… they both have one thing to live. When death comes for them, they accept a deal in order to cheat death. Smoke, shadows, a hostile demon day from the beyond and highly paid assassins sent by loving parents makes things for a little complicated for the new partners.
This new series starts off with a fast paced and energetic read that introduces a promising new world. The characters are strong, vivid and easily grab readers’ attention although the relationship between the hero and heroine is just getting started so there’s not a lot of romance but the chemistry between them sizzles with lots of heat. The story starts off with an adrenaline pumping event and just keeps going with non-stop action and fun that causes quite a bit of hanging on the edge of your seat thrills and quite a bit of laughter. Although on the short side, the story is quirky and fun but mixed with lots of danger and suspense, coming together to form an enjoyable, entertaining and refreshingly different read with some unique story elements.
I can’t remember when I have been more thoroughly entertained by a book! I loved the concept and the characters are so well developed that they leap off the page. Ellie and Jack are absolutely brillant creations and I am madly in love with the possibilities for these two characters. Witty, tongue in cheek with a side of danger, this book is impossible to put down.
This is going to be a crazy good series and if the first book is any indication, its going to be one of my favorites.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review of this book.
(SORT OF SPOILERS INCLUDED! NOT FULL STORY GIVEAWAYS, BUT SOME OF THE STORY…)
S.A.Bayne, or better known as Stephanie Rowe, has been one busy lady. And here, in a book that took her over 10 years to write because so many other things came first, she has finally released the tale that rattled around in her head for so long. And what a tale it is turning out to be!
Meet Ellie and Jack, two of the most unlikely heroes you could ever imagine. One a girl with no magic on a quest to find her missing sister, Esme, the other a half man half demon who lost his wife but has a daughter he needs desperately to keep safe while he battles that demon side of himself. Together they, maybe, add up to half a hero. Yet together they are the best they’re going to get.
A, well, for lack of a better word, “being” named Tomas, comes along and offers them the chance to be superheroes and save the world from a twisted conman with evil magic, determined to destroy anyone and anything that had a hand in killing his family. Against their combined better judgment, they accept. To help Ellie along, Tomas lets her find her own magical weapon, which he says will be the only one in the armory to accept her. This wonderful weapon that Ellie is so sure will turn the tide of her “no magic” makeup, turns out to be…sandpaper. Sandpaper? LOL really?
That type of humor is prevalent throughout the whole book. Stephanie has this hysterical ability to turn desperate times into laughable moments. As she progresses through her various comedic novels, she’s getting more and more of the hang of cracking me up while still keeping me interested in the seriousness of the storyline. This is a talent that is hard to come by. Even someone as talented as Stephanie obviously is (she has more than 30 books out there folks!), has had to struggle a little bit to get the comedy just right. But, here, in The Demon You Trust she got it exactly right! I found myself giggling throughout the book!
But, is it all comedy? Nope! In a couple extra bonus scenes included in the purchased book, she takes it to a more serious level. In the first one we see how damaged Ellie really is over having her parents attempt to kill her, then her sister, at a tender age. Damaged enough that when Jack offers it, she can’t bring herself to accept a real relationship. The best she can do is accept a partnership. She also shows how much Jack needs a stabilizing force in his life that he’s finding in Ellie, who is the only one who can keep him from turning full demon.
In the second one we get our first glimpse of someone else who is going to be very important in the future. It’s a teaser for sure. Which I hate/love! Now I have to sit on the edge of my seat waiting for the next one!
This first book in the new Magical Elite series is a phenomenal start! So much fun, so much drama! And the teaser bonuses? What a great little add-in that she’s going to be including in everything going forward! Extra work for her, yeah, but extra storyline for us! Ok, so she has to work harder. Yeah, I feel for her, but still, YAY! LOL!!
I love what you’ve done here, S.A. Bayne (our beloved Stephanie Rowe!)! So Very Very Well Done! Can’t wait for the next one!
I received this book through the ARC team, and am giving this review in my own words and of my own volition. Everything here is in my humble opinion!
I was so intrigued by the first couple of chapters of this book. I LOVED it! This one just gave me a taste of the storyline, and I’m hooked! I can’t wait to read more!
Tomas asks Jack and Ellie to sign on for a mission that no one has survived. It seems like a lose/lose no matter how you looked at it. I was holding my breath. The more I learned the more I wanted to know what happens next! Of course, I want them to WIN. Seriously… I can’t wait to see how it unfolds!
and those super secret bonus scenes… I loved them! Ellie and Jack have such great chemistry! I also can’t wait for Esme!
I just finished this novella, and I love being back in this author’s fun worlds. Ellie, Jack, and Tomas were such interesting characters, and this peak into their world just leaves me wanting more. Yes, this was a novella and there wasn’t much time to dip into this world to a large degree. However, this author’s great storytelling made me feel so much for the characters that I want to learn even more. I especially want to learn more about Tomas as we didn’t see him as much. This was a fun novella! So, bring on the next book! I highly recommend this novella and was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.
Another absolutely brilliant and entertaining read from S.A. Bayne! Really enjoyed the premise, the world-building, and the supreme level of humour injected into every scene and dialogue exchange. Fantastic characters as well as great character development and plot motivation. A stellar read!
Loved this story! Such an original idea with hilarious moments. I enjoyed how each character was struggling with an issue in their life, but they pulled together to make an awesome team. Cannot wait for more in this series! Loved the bonus material at the end of book!
OMG I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The Demon you Trust was a quick easy read that will have you entertained from start to finish. I could not put it down. I loved Ellie and Jack. These characters were witty, unusual and so well-developed and their banter just made the story for me. Although a novella, the plot was well-crafted with mystery and great world building. It was intense and fast paced with twists and turns to keep you guessing.
This was a great introduction to this series and I can’t wait for more from this author. I enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to all lovers of paranormal romance.
The Demon You Trust (Magical Elite #1) by S.A. Bayne, Stephanie Rowe is an awesome story that I have read and fell in love with. This is book number one in this awesome start to a brand new series that I am so in love with and can not wait to read the next book. I highly recommend this story to every who loves reading about demons.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Since I do adore a good mystery this one was a double plus because it also was set in a favorite paranormal. I do like also the humor that is found through this to make for a read that is hard to get away from when life calls you back. Ellie knows how to ensnare us with her partner Jack and the fast pace this one takes. Jack is filled with yummy thanks to Ellie’s fantasies at times even though they both seem to be in a race at times. You do find out why you can trust him. You do not get enough of Tomas either just a touch. Anyways this tale will have you caught up in no time with when you are done begging for more.
Another wonderful book by author: Stephanie Rowe.
The characters are amazing. Loved the plot.
Can’t wait to read more in this series.
If the rest of the books in this series are anything like this book, it is going to be a good series. This book is full of interesting characters, action, and adventure. Ellie and Jack make a great dynamic duo because they are unlikely heroes. I cant wait to see where this series takes us next.
What an action packed novella. From start to finish this book is so filled with so much. It is a great fast read that will leave you wanting more. I think that is a great feeling for the intro into a new series. S.A. Bayne is becoming one of my favorite new authors to read.
I received an ARC for my honest review of this book
What a ride! At first its like HUH, whats going on I am confused. Then who cares you are on a ride you cannot get off until the end. Fun, witty, and original with characters you want to know and embrace.
I was so happy for the bonus peeks because I am so anxious for the next installment. Who knew sandpaper could be so interesting! I received an Advanced Review Copy of The Demon You Trust in exchange for posting a review
No spoilers of any kind included!
This book was absolutely fantastic even though it was a little short.
But it was fast pace and a lot of action that kept me so tightly glue to the story the whole time I was reading it.
I definitely can’t wait for more of the Magical Elite series.
So it’s going to be a big HECK YEAH I most definitely do recommend this book because I thought it was awesome and I think you will too!
I loved the book, will definitely be reading the next in the series
You can’t go wrong reading a S. A. Bayne book. She is great with the paranormal genre. A great start to a new series, it is short and easy to read. Tomas has chosen Ellie (demi god with no powers) & Jack (half demon), giving them a second chance if they join the Magical Elite, a magical crime fighting organization. Ellie is running from assassins hired by her parents and Jack is working to keep his demon contained. Working together will they be able to defeat the Trick that is chasing them? Bonus section in book is a must read.
Was provided an ARC for an honest review by author.
I was not sure for a little where the story was going. I was hooked right away into Ellie’s plight. However, the ending scene of Ellie’s choice felt a little confusing for me. And then it quickly changed the scene to Jack’s situation. I think my unease in the story came with Thomas. Not really getting a feel for liking him or understanding him better. Once I got rolling, the story was great. The were only a couple of areas that slowed me down. I certainly did not expect the ending twists. I am looking foward to seeing more of this duo and definitely Thomas’ story.
This is a great story with great characters. This book has great twist and suspense. I really enjoyed reading this book. This book won’t disappoint. Must Read!
