I’m enjoying this series so much!!! I loved Valiant and this was a very good follow-up and I cannot wait to read Triumphant and see how this series finishes. I love the characters, the lies, the political intrigue and all the action. It’s fun and highly entertaining.
OMG! This book…this friggin book was so good.
First off Lesley did a great job refreshing readers memories with all the things that happened in The Valiant and made easing into this book that much easier. Secondly, the story has gotten even better than the first and is just as exciting and action packed at the first book. Thirdly, the loyalty and sense of family and friendship between these girls is beyond empowering.
Fallon has grown so much as a character and so much smarter. She is fearsome leader with a strategic mind. I love that she has learned from past battles and evaluates things to get the best outcome. She has definitely become a leader, one that has surpassed even her own sister, Sasha. The relationship she has with her fellow gladiatrix fighters was so great to read. I also loved her relationship with Kai and Aiden. The romance wasn’t the focus point of the story, but the trust they have in one another gives Fallon that much more power.
Needless to say that I loved this book. The story had some great twists that had Fallon making huge decisions for the future of her fellow gladiatrix fighters. She much make these decisions without the help of her sister Sasha. The action was so good and easy to picture. And of course I love the history. This is a great book and an excellent sequel. I am dying for the next book.
Second book didn’t disappoint me at all. Fallon my favorite strong woman character. I love the writing and the way the story went. Just like the first book. We get some characters who come back into Fallon life be surprise. Heck it surprised me. And there are some betrayal and jealously. And Fallon the strong woman character wants women to fight with each other never against each other. I did have a hard time in the beginning reading this but I think is because I was out of this world for over year. But still a really good read. If you read the first book then you should continue and read this one.
I love both books in this series and eagerly await the next. I thoroughly enjoyed her vision of what life must have been like for female gladiators in Rome at the time. The story depicts strong females, sisterhood, independence, supportive and caring men (although there are also the evil sons of dis), clearly illustrating that people and their actions can’t always be defined in terms of black and white, the fierce need for freedom, sacrifice and heroism. The story is set in the last years of Julius Caeser’s reign (just before his murder) and his relationship with Cleopatra, who was herself a powerful woman. If you love historical fiction, the author does a fantastic job of recreating the past and building a backdrop of the seething political and empire building climate of the period. All while creating relatable and engaging characters.
