I enjoyed this love story and how these two characters finally found what made them each whole. It was a different type of book than I am used to, but this author made it so you couldn’t help but follow the journey these two characters took to get to their happily ever after. I recommend this book and this author.
I have a very hard time believing Kristen Ashley wrote the first 2/3rds of this book. The writing itself was like reading about paint drying. It was that boring. How can you make an erotic book so boring? The writing of Amélie’s character lacks passion, emotions and intensity. I hate to say this, but the only word I can find to describe the majority of the writing of this story is soporific. It literally had me yawning and virtually put me to sleep. Almost all the erotic scenes have a near doctor/patient quality. Very clinical. Which is peculiar and not in a good way.
As far as suspense, there is very little. In fact, it feels forced and like a second or even third thought.
Towards the end of the book Kristen Ashley’s normal writing style starts to show itself. But it is to little, to late. No sass. No intrigue.
As for typos, etc. I only found 2. So that is not a problem.
There are a few instances that start to get you more connected to Oliver and Amélie, then poof, that connection is gone.
I may read the other 2 books in this series in the far, far future. Maybe. But I seriously doubt it.
I still say someone else wrote the majority of this story. The writing style is just that profusely different than any Kristen Ashley book I have ever read. Which my favorites are ‘Unfinished Hero’, ‘Dream Man’ and ‘Chaos’ series. So as you can tell, I love my erotica. Not only did I not love this story, I didn’t even like it.
This should probably be 2 stars, but I gave it 3 for some of the erotic scenes towards the end, certain other characters in the book and the end of the story itself.
Definitely not my thing. Didn’t finish.
Enjoyed this whole series.
Actually, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. This is not my thing. I like alpha alpha men. A man topping a woman in novels I do enjoy occasionally. But the woman being the dominant in bed, so not my thing. So I put off reading this series. For a more erotic romance, it was excellent. I miss some of the deeper plot that KA normally writes, but I was still massively entertained. So yeah. Not my thing, but still a good read!
So basically Olivier is an Alpha on the streets, but a sub in the sheets. Alrighty, why not?! Yes this is soooo different from other KA books, but I thought she did a great job at it. I like that she was writing something outside of her writing box and went for it, boy did she ever go for it. Straight up, there is a lot of boo-tay play with Olly. I say, if that’s not in your wheelhouse, this book is not for you. If you’re not a lover of BDSM, then girl, this book is not for you. I went in with a completely open mind and figured bring it on with your bad BDSM self. Let’s read something new and different from her. Some of those scenes with Leigh and Olly were mega hawt and there were a lot of them, they were not boring! Olly is your typical KA alpha so you still get that. Although he’s got a temper of a 5 year old and that was slightly irritating. Other than that, I feel just because it’s different, doesn’t make it bad. I say kudos to KA for writing it and I’ll most likely check out the next book.
I loved that when Oliver messed up he’d be a man and own up to it, “I effed up. I was a ***k. I blew my stack ’cause I got a temper. Been kickin’my *** for days, worried as eff you’d blank me. I’m glad you didn’t, Amélie, because I missed you.” Oliver has no problem stating how he feels, “I’m effin’ you, you’re effin’ me, that’s exclusive,” he declared.” I loved this book, Oliver was a protective man when it came to his woman.
I love her books can’t wait for the next one
First time reading this author. The tone of things wasn’t what I was initially thinking it would be. But the hero however helped me get through the book. And see things from a different perspective. In some ways he was more stand up than most other characters I have read about in a while. Very flowery writing though.
I usually love her books but this one was disappointing. Couldn’t get through it so disappointed.
Kristen Ashley is my favorite author but I am highly disappointed in this series. I feel she needs to stay true to her original writings. Her books have the ability to move you in so many different ways and wish you could know and be friends with so many of her characters. I have a very open mind but this series left me cold and I had a hard time getting through the first book.
If you’ve ever read a KA book, just read this one as if you haven’t. It’s not the same nor does it pretend to be. I’ve read other reviews saying it’s not as good as her other books. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t, but don’t compare these two styles. Did I like it? At first, no. I’m not a quitter so I kept reading. In end, I liked it. No pun intended. I’ll read the next one in the series eventually. Read it with an open mind, forget it about the other books.
