Bestselling author Michaelbrent Collings brings you a Bram Stoker Award finalist critics call “a great novel with terror in the depths of the ocean” (Horror After Dark) that is “pretty near perfect” (The San Francisco Book Review)!
There are places we were never meant to go…
A woman searching for a sister lost at sea. A man bent on finding lost treasure. A mother who has lost all hope. A … go…
A woman searching for a sister lost at sea. A man bent on finding lost treasure. A mother who has lost all hope. A maniac who believes all life exists for his pleasure. The man who would keep them all safe.
“The tension cranks tight…. I wanted more and wasn’t ready to be done reading yet.” – The Horror Fiction Review
Together, they will all seek below the waves for treasures long buried, and riches beyond belief.
“You’re sure to be hooked after the first chapter!” – Horror Fuel
But those treasures hide something. Something ancient, something dark. A creature that exists only to feed on those that would enter into its realm.
“Hooked me early in the story and I couldn’t stop reading.” – Dungeon Crawlers Radio
A creature… of The Deep.

I love monster in the deep books and this one did not fail to deliver the scares. This book got my started on the rest of Collings works. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water…
Fantastic horror novel set on a boat over a wreck that has far more than expected down in the deep … Will keep you guessing as to who will die next. Love MBC!
I went into Collings’ story not knowing exactly what to expect. I enjoy closed-in horror and Jaws remains one of my favorites. So I saw this book as a safe bet. The story’s a nail-biting page-turner and it reinforced my decision to never scuba-dive. Ever. I can appreciate the beauty of the ocean and what lives within it from afar, but… nope! I appreciated the multiple points of view that allowed me to get inside the heads of the characters, kicking up the tension. I found the underwater segments the scariest which reinforces the idea that sometimes what you don’t see scares you the most. However, I did want a little more payoff at the end. I was expecting more of a battle but events at the end seemed to lose steam. Still, a satisfying read!
In this horror novel a young woman, along with her estranged father, searches for her sister, who was lost at sea. But the diving expedition includes others, from the captain to a killer, with far different agendas. And none of them is prepared for the evil that’s bursting forth from the ocean’s depth. Not only did I love the suspense, I learned a bit about deep sea diving. Part Jaws, part Stephen King, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. A great escape from day-to-day life!
If you think maneating fish are the scariest things in the ocean … you would be wrong.
THE DEEP takes you under and holds you there until your lungs explode. Great read.
Michaelbrent Collins’ The Deep is stunning in its altered reality. Anchored in the ocean, the people on a dive boat, seduced by the deep, find what they most desire and then must fight to save themselves from a darkness that threatens to destroy them, one by one.
I liked the book
I had a 7 hour layover at an airport in Portugal.
Thanks to this book it felt more like 1. Great read.
Great first book, loved it!
Good read!
I really enjoyed this.
So far, this is the third book I have read by Michael Brent Collings. I liked the concept of this book. A deep sea creature wreaking havoc on deep sea divers. The creature he created was clearly evil and powerful, he left it open to one’s own imagination. Characters that were good, bad, and a bit strange in their own likeness. Some clear disgusting description of gross body decay and oozing pustules. How when a group of people are together; out in the vast ocean, start to loose touch with reality. Or are they just being controlled by the evil of the deep?!?! The reason I am giving this no more than three stars is because I felt like there was too many unanswered questions concerning the characters and it left me a bit confused, if not a bit feeling like the whole story was just lacking something. Every story has its redemption, and that redemption is what every reader takes from a book, we all have our preferences, what we like and dislike. And this does not sway me in following and reading all of his other books!!
Story is overly detailed that makes the story tedious. Would be a great short story!
Stock villain. Standard character arcs, but good fun.
Ok
I did not care for this book. Repetitive, and I just found it lacking.
Started out as good undersea storyline, then switched to somewhat supernatural. I wanted sea monsters. Good read if you want supernatural.
