I’ve been through hell to get to this place. To wear the perfect white dress and stand beside Royce Hale, the liar I tried desperately not to fall in love with and failed.Or maybe I’m still trapped in hell because the devil is here too. He lurks at my side, plotting terrible ways to make me his. It’s win at all costs in this family, and I know now just how far the Hales will go to get what they … to get what they want.
But you can’t survive in a house full of lies without learning the art of deception, and once I become a Hale, I’ll show them exactly what I’ve mastered.
THE DECEPTION is the conclusion to the captivating FILTHY RICH AMERICANS trilogy, which should be read following THE INITIATION and THE OBSESSION.

STEAM:
If “don’t send a man to do a woman’s job” were a book, THIS IS IT.
The ultimate chess match was never between Macalister and Royce. It was between Macalister and Marist, and the game and the end result were done so well.
We pick up from where The Obsession ended: Marist is being rushed to the hospital. The tug-of-war between father and son continues over Marist’s care, and ultimately she steps in and takes control. This becomes the overarching theme of the book.
This is also the book that made me Team Marist. I have always thought of her as indecisive in Books One and Two, and while she still somewhat struggles with her attraction to Macalister, she knows that she loves Royce and does what she can to help him. After all, she is the best match for the Hale patriarch. She is cunning and willing to do what it takes to win at all costs — but on her own terms.
I still think Royce is not worthy of her, but he does work toward deserving her, which is the best we can ask of him.
I am still firmly on Team Macalister, though. The man clearly does not know how to love and I hope he gets that education in The Redemption (Book 4). But man can he seduce like a champ and I also hope he does not lose that touch. The scene with him, Marist, and the mirror is one of the hottest I’ve read this year.
I really enjoyed Royce and Marist’s story. The twists and suspense flowed really nicely, and I liked that Marist’s character arc is mirrored by her chess skills. Nikki Sloane’s use of subtle but intricate details that become critical later on is just **chef’s kiss.** She has an amazing ability to create empathy for even some of her darkest characters, and I love that.
Don’t miss the conclusion to Nikki Sloane’s Filthy Rich Americans series!
The newest Filthy Rich Americans book is here from Nikki Sloane!
I read it in a day. Couldn’t read this book fast enough. A genuinely satisfying ending. I’m a complete Nikki Sloane fan now.
Coming off the cliffhanger Nikki gave us in The Obsession, I was extremely ready for more of this Filthy Rich Americans series! I had been craving it since August and was desperate for the conclusion. Royce and Marist are planning their wedding while learning how to navigate his father; McAllister is still lurking in the shadows desperate to get his happy ending by any means possible; and everything finally comes full circle in this third novel in their story. It has been an extreme adventure to get here, erotic, deceitful and most enjoyable, and it has been worth every heartbeat skipping moment!
In the conclusion, we pick right back up where Nikki left us hanging at the end of The Obsession. The Hale family is something to behold. All of them have their quirks, flaws and sneakiness in them and watching it develop even further in this twisted and depraved family. Deceit becomes a way of life and with everyone keeping secrets, who can be trusted and what is the end game Royce has been playing toward and will Marist succeed the games she has been playing since stepping foot into the Hale family. All these questions, and more were delivered in this Kindle melting conclusion! This book was eroticism at its finest. I found myself fully immersed in their world and enjoying every minute of this dark-romance! McAllister and Royce are both out for blood, and when it comes to Marist, all best are off. What a conclusion!
What an intense web of deception, misdirection and intigue! Marist, Royce, and Macalister are some of the most compelling characters I’ve read in recent years. I had a love/hate relationship with each of them for different reasons, but they won me over in the end. I was torn on where Marist’s loyality should be, and Nikki Sloane didn’t make it easy for me to choose a side. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, Ms. Sloane threw in another twist.
I’m blown away by how engrossed in this story I became. It took me until the last few chapters to see how the trilogy would wrap up, and I truly hated for the story to end. I’m not going to spoil the thrill ride for any other reader. Rest assured, the ride is worth every moment. This series epitomises everything I love about Ms. Sloane’s writing. Prepare to settle in for an epic 5 Star read!
This book was better then the previous part, but still,I wasn’t able to fully enjoy it.
Like the previous part, this book picks up right where the first part ended.A villain of the story is revealed, and I was very disappointed. It’s not that I liked Alice and now I feel sorry for her,it’s the fact that she is turned from this strong, calculated women to a complete lunatic that can’t live if Macalister’s attention is not on her.I can’t picture Alice like that.
This book, like the previous part was really slow, and at times really horrible to read.I can’t appreciate the scenes between Marist and Macalister, and I fell horrible that she ended up with Royce. After everything Marist has done with Macalister, and the way she felt while doing it,like she didn’t want it and at the same time she did-I can’t see Royce and her married. But they are.
I’m really disappointed with how this trilogy turned out to be.I liked the first book so much and the the second and third part were so bad for me.
This. Series. Wow! What a rollercoaster! I loved the twists and turns that kept me guessing and leading me to dead ends much like the hedge maze at the Hale house. The whole series I despised MacAlister but at the very end of this book, I felt sorry for him. If you can take a villain like that and make me feel sorry for him, that’s excellent story telling. In this stunning conclusion to Marist’s story, she truly was a heroine and fought back, finally getting 2 steps ahead of MacAlister and beating him at his own game. This series was epic and will stay with me forever. I felt every emotion as I read this series and it was heightened in this book as we reached the tipping point and final battle. Royce’s true character was exposed in this book and made me love him even more. The lengths he went to, no matter how messed up, to win Marist were shocking. I think that’s the best word for this book, SHOCKING. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor several times. Bravo Nikki Sloane! This series was crazy and twisted but I loved every perverse second of it!
This is book 3 of a trilogy, not a stand alone. Marist tried desperately not to fall in love with Royce but failed. Macalister lurks at Marist’s side and plots terrible ways to make her his. It is win at all costs in the Hale family. You cannot survive in a house full of lies without learning he art of deception. Marist marries Royce and plans to show them exactly what she mastered. : The lies and deceit continue. Royce is good to Marist, but Macalister continues to try to come between them. Marist falls even more in love with Royce. I am not familiar with mythology, but there are references throughout the series. I recommend the series, but the Hales are an unusual family and you will encounter many situations you have probably never thought of. I am glad there was a good epilogue.
This series had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! I loved it! There were some icky moments but I don’t mind ick as long as it fits the story. A good story is all I require and this was one hell of a story. I didn’t know if I was coming or going or what was going to happen next or how this whole thing was going to be resolved.
This book wasn’t as good as the first two books in the series but it tied up all the loose strings and I was just relieved that the HEA was actually going to work. I had my doubts there for awhile but it all came together.
I can’t wait to see how the author redeeems Macalister. He needs some redemption.
A steamy tale full of secrets and lies, twists and turns, manipulation and myths!
My how Marist has grown from the first book. No longer is she the timid, book-lover but she has unleashed her inner goddess and has a way of bringing men to heel. She is a woman on a mission to annihilate her enemies and slay her demons. Royce is FINALLY opening up and starting to work with Marist instead of taking what she brings to the table for granted. Lest one forget about McAllister….He is showing his colors on an entirely new level. Like a heightened game of chess where each page just sucks the reader in more and more, this is one outstanding drama that grips, tightens and twists one’s emotions even after the last page is read. It is not a standalone and the books must be read in order. I highly recommend this series!
I consumed this series with a ferocity like no other! I was recommended this series by not one but TWO close book friends of mine and after their incessant messages on how AMAZING this series is and how I NEED to read it N-O-W, I finally caved. Without knowing a SINGLE thing about this series, I decided to trust my friends opinions and I skipped reading ALL the blurbs and jumped right in and I do not regret it!
This final installment had even more twists and turns, more deceptions, more lies and more STEAM in store for Macalister, Royce and Marist, but the chess game was coming to an end. This series has an indescribable “love triangle” element that is like no other and left me breathless. There is a certain dark forbidden awareness to the one relationship that has the reader thinking “Could that really work?? HOW could it work? And WHY am I even considering it??” These two are alike in many ways and that’s how they connected. But then the other (more realistic, in my opinion) relationship is built on this instant connection that continued to grow, no matter the trials it faced. This relationship has you rooting for it from the beginning. These two SEE each other. They see past the “masks” they wear and because of that, I couldn’t help hoping and praying for their HEA. Their was a definite shift in this book in regards to power and I thoroughly enjoyed reading how everything was unfolding.
This was my first books by Nikki Sloane and after finishing, I will definitely be checking out her back list and keeping an eye out for any future novels that she releases. I was captivated by her “voice” in this series and how she told this story. It was NOT an easy story to tell, but she executed it flawlessly. And the way she brought mythology (Zeus, Ares, Medusa, Hades, Hera, the Minotaur…) into the story and put a unique spin to it with these characters was utterly brilliant! The entire series was unpredictable and unique right up to the end. A true masterpiece that I could see myself rereading in the future!
5 stars!
This whole series was a roller coaster ride. I could not put the books down. I had withdraw after finishing them because I wanted more.
„Check-mate.”
The Deception, the final book in The Filthy Rich Americans trilogy by Nikki Sloane is a pure unputdownable masterpiece. Bold and truly provoking romance, dripping with lust, manipulation, betrayal, and lack of control. This is a world of the most powerful people, immortals, at their best and the worst behaviors!
I thought the author would not surprise me more with the scheming, uncontrollable desires and shocking twists and turns. With every page, I was sucked into a game of chess between gods and mortals, with mythological analogies, where you have to be two steps ahead of your opponent. The game between Royce and Macalister with Marist as the biggest price. But she wasn’t just a paw. Marist embraced her inner Medusa and made gods kneel in front of her. Because when you live with Hale’s family you start behaving and thinking like them.
The Filthy Rich Americans trilogy is a very unpredictable series. Until the last page, you don’t know who should you trust, love or hate. This is the kind of story where “How far is too far” doesn’t exist. Where everyone wants to win at any cost. But this series is also a story about people with feelings, believes and needs. Needs to be trusted and loved.
I really enjoyed this series. This book fits perfectly with the rest of of the books. It was a complete roller coaster ride. I wish the ending was set out a bit further in the future. Maybe the author will write something a bit further. Overall, extremely well done.
Boy oh Boy… Where do I begin?
I purchased the first book in this series because of the seemingly never ending positive reviews. Needless to say it was nothing like what I’d expected. I can honestly say as an avid reader, I have never, and I mean never read a book or series like this. Simply put, this series is uniquely twisted and has a lot of cringeworthy and possibly triggering moments. Beware.
BUT…Despite that being so, the author’s writing of itself is good. She is masterful in creating suspense and anticipation. The plot twist and unforeseen events were captivating and what essentially made me continue the series despite my discomfort. She’s very good at hooking the reader and created deep, complex, multidimensional characters. Even though the story line of itself was very difficult to digest because of its nature, it did not diminish the excellence of the author’s writing ability.
I would actually love to read a book written by this author in the psychological thriller genre.
Shel: It’s always a good sign when the final book in a series releases and you put down an engaging book you’re currently reading because you can’t wait to see how the new release will end, right? Right. This is definitely what happened when The Deception hit my Kindle. Without a second thought, I immediately downloaded the book and jumped right in and as I anticipated, the opening scene had me WTF-ing all over the place! And trust me when I tell you that sentiment is continued for the entirety of the book.
Shel: Marist, Royce, Alice, and Macalister kept me on my toes; it took some serious will power not to turn to the end of the book or check for spoiler reviews on Goodreads because I was dying. Seriously. Some of the things that were happening had me all twisted up and anxious and second guessing my assumptions about how things would turn out. Even in the last little bit, when I thought I could breathe easier, I discovered there was more waiting for me.
Shel: All in all, I loved how this series was like a modern day juicy soap opera. The lies, the sex, the manipulations and deceptions, the heroes and the villians were interesting. Never once did the pace or plot lag and I found all of these characters so terrible and yet so fun to read. Honestly, if some of the secondary characters decided to come out and play in a new series, I would not be sad about it at all.
Shel: If you haven’t started this series, grab it and be prepared to be entertained.
Wow!!! Fantastic ending!! Edgy and full of angst!!
“Ours was the only love story in the myths that I believed had a happy ending.
We were Persephone and Hades.”
The Deception is the last book in the Filthy Rich Americans trilogy and concludes the story of Marist and the Hale family. After the cliffhanger of the second book, where Marist ends up poisoned, we follow the unfolding and the consequences of this situation. And in a family where social status matters most, the weight of this scandal is a blemish that patriarch Macalister is unwilling to flaunt.
And with the big day coming, the wedding Marist is been preparing for, she will finally be a Hale. But if she is stronger and more aware of her new condition, even knowing who to trust remains a mystery. Who speaks the truth? Royce, her fiance, and the man she’s in love with? Or Macalister, her future father-in-law who has an unhealthy obsession with her and has been willing to do anything to get what he wants? In this fight of Gods, can a woman have the final say? Will Marist get her checkmate?
In my review of the first book, I said that the reading surprised me and that it was one of the best and different books I had ever read. Unfortunately for me, the trilogy was losing its breath throughout its sequels. The end, despite being delivered, did not convince me. Marist was portrayed as strong, determined, a woman who placed in an unexpected situation sacrifices herself for her family. Falling in love with Royce slightly softens all the changes and compromises she has to make. But throughout history, the fact that she, without admitting, is attracted to Macalister has no logic. She eventually assumed the weight of the new surname, showing that she is capable of anything to achieve a goal as well. Which doesn’t match the character.
Royce did not convince me at all. Villain or good guy? Sorry, I didn’t believe his love for her. Looks like a spoiled boy who wants to provoke his father at all costs. Macalister, though controversial and disgusting, was the only consistent one in the whole narrative.
The ending, with Macalister saving his son was hard to believe. Just like Alice’s plot. And Marist still visiting Macalister and playing chess was unbelievable.
The plot is interesting, innovative, messes with the comfort zone, but unfortunately for me it was lost in its development. Which still doesn’t dim the glow of the story.
