When her mother said she would stop the marriage, she didn’t expect that her uncle would have her marry one of his guards. Damen frighten and excites her at the same time and make her feel safe. The more time they spend together the harder it is for Damen to protect Maya from him, but he can’t risk falling for her. Maya continues to push him ending with his finally yelling at her that she is his, but Maya wants him to prove it.
A misunderstanding makes things get interesting, Maya deciding to leave. When Damen realises that Maya is missing he realises what he feels for her and will create a war to get her back.
When I first met Maya and Damen in “The Contract,” I wasn’t sure whether I was going to really like them or how they would work as a couple. After all, she seemed to be a bit of a push over, and he a cold, unfeeling a**. Although there were signs Maya had a backbone with her snark and sass, and Damen might just have a heart and feelings, I wasn’t certain, but I was intrigued. Now I can honestly say I do like them, and their relationship makes sense, even though it’s still a work in progress.
This is an intriguing start to their journey with quite a few bumps and some unexpected twists, but it will definitely keep your interest and leave you anxious for the rest of their story. The characters are well-drawn and appealing (well, most of them), and the storyline is very engaging and will hold your attention from beginning to end. It’s filled with strong emotions, drama, some of which includes acts of violence which could be triggering, a budding relationship that may not survive, a surprising (or maybe not so surprising) villain, and some moments of very hot, steamy passion.
Maya and Damen’s story is one you will find interesting and somewhat captivating. You don’t have to have read “The Contract,” but why not? After all, it’s free (ATOP) and it provides more of the backstory as to what leads them to where they are now. If you haven’t figured it out, you are going to need to read “The Promise,” next in the series, to get their whole story, but I believe you will find it worth it.
Wow!!! Damen has stepped up and will be marrying Maya, as long as they can keep it a secret from the world until that day. The threat against Maya and her mother is still there and no one can figure out who it is.I love the dynamic between Maya and Damen. They each have preconceived notions about the other, but the more time they spend together the closer they grow and the lines of the contract begin to blur. Their honeymoon is everything Maya imagines, and more, until the danger pops up again. Their is a leak in her Uncle/Father’s organization and when she mishears something Damen says she puts herself and her mother in danger. It takes the danger to Maya to get Damen to realize his true feelings for her….and lord help anyone in his way!! No spoilers…but I want the next book now!!!
Ugh. Another really good book with a cliffhanger. I am not interested in reading more especially after seeing there are 5 books in the series. If you like a good mafia series, this one is really good. But authors flat out lose me when they have cliffhangers. No thank you.
Wow!! What a great start to this mafia story!! Full of suspense, intrigue and steaminess. I need to know what happen next ASAP because that cliffhanger was enormous!
