Jack Winchester was a notorious hitman for a ruthless New Jersey crime family until a job went wrong, and he wound up serving time. Four years later, Jack is free and he wants out of the game, but his boss won’t let him go. Forced to take on one last job to make amends for what landed him in prison, he travels to the small town of Rockland Cove, Maine. There, he not only discovers that the target … discovers that the target and money have disappeared; he finds himself falling for a damaged woman, and befriending an unruly son left behind.
Under mounting pressure from his boss and local police—as well as the ghosts of his past—he must unravel the mystery and decide where his loyalties lie…before it’s too late.
Note: Even though there is a book 2. This is a full standalone novel with a complete ending.

A truly trite and predictable story—boring.
Love the main character. His dilemma makes for a great plot. Sometimes repetitious and drawn out but generally keeps moving. Some surprises at the end but mostly predictable conclusion. Great beach read—can finish in a few hours and have a fully developed story.
Average read. Loses the pace towards the middle for quite a bit. Stay away from the romantic bits !!!
Enjoyable read and little predictive. Author keeps the reader moving along with plot twists and crime family vengeance. Main character very strong carrying the plot. Romantic attraction adds good mix to the overall story.
Jack Winchester if of the calibre of Jason Bourne – A great character and a great book!
Entertaining read story zips along
This author is not my favorite forshure. I gave him 2 chances and found him lacking both times. He writes sha!!ow if that describes without depth. I wish him well and hope he keeps trying. I did finish2 of his books and that says something for him.
Cruel people take things for granted and walk over others without care or second thoughts but choices have consequences and some times they are good and other time bad. Good people can take so much especially when the creed they live by is in jeopardy as the case with debt collector. I pulled for him from the start because I could see the good in his character.
Kinda boring actually
Good story
Loved the book
Loved this book. Could not put it down.
Liked the characters. Very good book.
I did like this book and recommend it. It is a bit whimsical and optimistic, but it is nice to get away from gore occasionally.
Thoroughly enjoyable and looking to read the 2nd in the series, The Vengeance
It is a fast read and holds your interest. Perfect for a rainy weekend.
I enjoyed the book. I could not put it down, it is fast moving and you keep reading to find out what is going to happen next. I highly recommended this book. I enjoyed the characters.
Written well but I don’t like how the author wants you to like the main character, who is a killer.
It was okay typical of that type of crime if tion.
Fascinating glimpse into mob life from the perspective of someone wanting to leave the business. Yes, there is violence and it is vital to the plot. It is a good story with interesting and complex characters and enough intrigue to keep the reader very engaged.
