The Dead Girl’s Stilettos: A Bexley Squires Mystery
By: Quinn Avery
Narrated by: Victoria Villarreal
Caught up in this story from the very beginning, Quinn Avery has woven a complex mystery for Bexley Squires to solve. I could not stop listening to this one, the further I got, the more I needed to know. Bexley is hired by a famous actor to clear his name of a murder. Though a journalist, her detective skills are proven. She takes the job because the money will help her to find her missing sister. When she starts the case, her old high school friend Grayson is the detective on the case and these two set out to solve the murder. This story is action packed, and has so many twists that I kept changing my mind about who the murderer was. It’s smart, has a little romance and is very entertaining.
Victoria Villarreal does a wonderful job with the narration. It’s my first listen by her, and really enjoyed her performance. Well paced, she gives great inflections, adding to the mystery and suspense. Her voices are distinguishable and her voice is easy to listen to.

What a fantastic book!
This is the first book I’ve read of Quinn Avery’s and j could not put it down! I haven’t read a good mystery book in quite a long time. This book kept me on my toes. I wasn’t sure where it was going to go the entire time. The twists, the turns, it was unexpected. When I thought it would go one way, it went another.
This is a great start to a series. I can’t wait to dig into the next book!
I highly recommend this book to readers!
What a fantastic debut mystery from Quinn. I loved everything about this book. The characters were extremely well developed and she kept me guessing until the very end. I read a fair amount of mystery books and usually have a pretty good idea of who did it so to speak, but this time I wasn’t sure and then there were so many twists and turns that you really didn’t know who to trust and who not to. No wonder Bexley wasn’t sure what to do and who to turn to for help. If you enjoy a good mystery, be sure to pick this one up, you won’t be disappointed!
The Dead Girl’s Stilettos by Quinn Avery is a fast-paced mystery with a fearless and funny woman leading the way! Bexley Squires, an amateur detective, is offered a good chunk of change to help clear the name of a hot celebrity after he’s rumored to be linked to the murder of a young woman. How could anyone say no to that?! But she soon finds her investigation has rocked the boat and her life is now in danger. A fantastic FIRST book in a series. I can’t wait for The Million Dollar Collar to come out this Fall!
This was my first Quinn Avery’s book, and won’t be my last! The Dead Girl’s Stilettos is the first book in A Bexley Squires Mystery. This is a great start to this Series. This mystery is suspenseful, and intriguing. Bexley and Grayson are great characters. Their investigation is captivating, filled with unpredictable twists and turns. Bexley Squires Mystery Book One.
Bexley Squires is returning home with a single purpose – find her missing sister. To do that, however, she needs money to hire an investigator. With that purpose in mind, she meets with Dean Halliwell, the hottest star around, to prove his innocence. Dean insists that he was not the man who killed the girl who washed up onshore, but the police questioned him and the press ran with that story. Bexley begins by interviewing the cop who spoke with Dean, her old crush Grayson Rivers. As she digs deeper, Bexley finds that maybe both mysteries are connected.
If you’re looking for a fun Hollywood mystery, this is the book for you!

Such a good mystery! I was going back and forth on The Who done it’s throughout the entire book. This book is very well written and will keep you interested in the mystery until it is solved. Narration was done equally as well also.
This was a great mystery. I admit I wasn’t a big fan of Bexley, but she was a good main character. I felt for Grayson because she was undermining him at every turn, but it all came together in the end.

how many pairs of stilettos?
a sick man with a collection of women he like to make dead.
the lov of a sister and the skills of someone else she might care too deeply for, these things might save her – or at least keep her alive long enough for her to begin to re-build for herself.
a stunning thriller.

Bexley is a bit of a quirky character. She is an reporter masquerading as a PI. She comes into contact with her high school crush Grayson while working on this case. The story has lots of wit and comical moments. She finds herself in sticky situations as she gets closer to the truth of what she is investigating. She also grows closer to Grayson and has to decide if this will be a relationship that she wants to last. It is a nice and easy read with a happy ending.
First, I really love this cover! The mysteriousness of it and the colors contrasted perfectly. The blue and gold grabbed me! I’d love to have this gorgeous book on my bookshelf. Happily, I can tell you the innards are just as fab as the outers!
The characters were layered and really plan confusing! Bexley is an investigating reporter and is known for a recent case that she cracked wide open. I love that Avery added a bit of romance to the story. It didn’t overtake the book (thankfully). I felt like it added something especially since we had multiple interested parties. I loved the setting… going back home after years gone to see a fully changed area that’s upgraded to new money. I really enjoy the rich people setting with devious motives. The reader never knows how the story will unfold. I was thrilled that Besley was really deep. She was intelligent and while she made some mistakes, she wasn’t a moron that fell into the answers she was looking for (Hallelujah)!! She had several men and friends in her corner. I really enjoyed the main characters as well as the secondary characters.
Quinn Avery is a pseudonym for an Indie romance author. I’ve enjoyed her romance books but I LOVED The Dead Girl’s Stilettos. The mystery was interesting and captivating. It did start out a bit slow but once I was 3 or 4 chapters in, I found that I couldn’t stop reading! I spent an entire morning reading until I had to shower! The writing was perfect! I found the mystery to be really intriguing. I went back and forth thinking I knew who the killer was and what was happening but I did not get it correct! Avery’s story is fantastic and I cannot wait to see where Bex goes next. I am thrilled to see that this is just the start from Quinn Avery and Bexley Squires!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
This is a great page turner. Bexley Squires is the main character and she was hired by a wealthy actor to find a killer. She needs the money to find her missing sister. This is a entertaining read that keeps you guessing. Quinn Avery did not disappointment and I will defiantly be waiting for the next book to see where Bexley ends up.
Darn it if I don’t love a good mystery/thriller read and this debut novel by Quinn Avery kept me on the edge of my seat! I always thought of myself as a “Nancy Drew” when it comes to solving mysteries, but with all the twist and turns, friends and foes, ups and downs, Ms. Avery had me guessing at every page!
Bexley Squires is a journalist who gets hired by the one and only Dean Halliwell, Hollywood’s hottest and brightest actor, to clear his name from an unsolved case in California. With a large payout on the table, she just might be able to search for her missing sister, Cineste, without having her to go broke and living on the streets.
And….let the mystery begin! Witness after witness, new evidence is brought to light. Which ones are telling the truth….and which ones are telling the lies! Can she trust her gut? Or will her gut get her into trouble?
Readers who enjoy the mystery/thriller genre will not be disappointed in this book!
Superb debut story from new author Quinn Avery! Reminiscent of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum, Bexley Squires will be a reader favorite with her mad mystery solving skills, fearless personality and endless wit!
What teases at being an ongoing series, Bexley Squires is surrounded by some amazing characters that I hope follow her from story to story!
In this particular story we follow Bexley to sunny SoCal as she is offered the opportunity to clear a suspect of false claims, and what better way to fund the search for her missing sister. Bexley manages to get herself in and out of several mishaps while catching up with old friends and making some new who end up being instrumental in solving the mystery at hand.
This story was well written, it pulled me in from the very beginning and held my attention to the end. I wasn’t able to put this down and finished all in one sitting. Just when I thought I had this story figured out, Quinn Avery flipped the script and showed me I need to brush up on my skills!
I can’t say enough about this story and these characters. Really looking forward to what comes next for Miss Bexley Squires!
I am giving The Dead Girl’s Stilettos 5 stars!
