Detective Carmen Dehan has such a bad attitude that nobody at the precinct can stomach her. Captain Jennifer Cuevas wants them both out of the way and thinks they make a perfect pair. So she gives them the Cold Cases file – the cases nobody gives a damn about.
She has no idea just how hot a cold case can get.
Ten years back Nelson Hernandez and his four cousins were playing poker in a dive at Hunts Point. Somebody came in, blew them away and beheaded and castrated Nelson, leaving his head and his balls on the table. There was no shortage of suspects, the Jersey Mob, the Triads from Manhattan, or the 43rds own bent cop, Mick Harragan. But nobody was ever charged, and the night of the murder Mick Harragan went missing with Nelson’s wife, Maria.
Now Stone and Dehan plan to find him – whatever the consequences…

Wicked and worth reading. This set sucked me in good.
I have read all but 1 of the books in this series. I hope Mr. Banner never stops writing about cold cases and Stone and Dehan. Love this series! Stay up to all hours of the night saying just one more chapter, just one more.
I’m into the second book of this series and am finding it every bit as good as the first. Cold Case partners Stone and Dehan are polar opposites when it comes to just about everything except a desire to solve these crimes and their mutual love of food, and especially steak. They’re so opposite that, rather than getting on each other’s nerves, they complement each other perfectly, although it seems to surprise them when the do. Their dialogues reveal more in a few lines than other writers reveal in paragraphs. Although there’s violence, it’s in context with the characters and the plot. It’s not just thrown in to shock or horrify the reader.
I bought the four book box set because it was a deal. And I can’t be happier. These are the stories of two cops who are assigned to look at cold cases mostly as punishment. The cold cases are fascinating and so are the cops. I started on the first page of the first book and read until I finished the fourth book. Then I bought the fifth and sixth books and read them too. I am totally invested in these characters and can’t wait until the seventh book is published. In the meantime, I am going to buy the three books of this author’s other series. The author states in each book that all he does is sleep and write and so he releases new books often. I want to hold him to this promise. The chemistry between the two cops is quite intriguing as they probably have romantic leanings, but both try very hard to keep themselves as friends and partners.
The only downside to the books is the occasional typo and grammatical errors, but I like them too much to harp on this too hard. Can’t wait for #7 so get it in gear Mr. Banner!
I liked the characters except for the behavior of the female detective. She had her moments but having worked with someone who seldom followed established procedures and someone who could not work as part of a team this female detective wore me out.
The cases they worked on were interesting and had original angles on crimes. I also enjoyed the development of their partnership. A good read..
I loved these four books. And just enough possible future romance to make it even more interesting. Hope to try the next books in the series.
I love this whole series, I am binge reading because these stories are so hard to put down. Along with the mystery and action, there is also a sweet romance between John and Carmen. Readers will be torn between finding out “who dun it” and will John and Carmen ever get together as lovers. While there is great love, the author didn’t go the heaving breasts and turgid member route so if you are more interested in a good story than a new position you will really enjoy this whole series.
Great new find. I’m binge reading all the books.
Loved this set of books. I greatly enjoy police procedurals and these kept me entertained for days.
Exciting police stories!
Good main character, a little tiresome in describing how attractive the lady lead is in this book. Hope they don’t develop a romantic bond and it ruins their partnership, that’s too predictable.
Cannot get enough of these quirky, twisted cases! I’m up to 9 or 10 so far…..
a superfly fast paced wild crazy insane ride with two hard-boiled detectives and some wry humor….
I really enjoyed this series. I like the two main characters and the way they interact with each other. The stories kept me guessing until the end.
I really liked the interaction bteween the two main characters, and how the stories go right into the mystery from the very first page – and the mysteries are good, too! You can also follow the build-up of the relationship bteween the two main characters. Not much blood and gore, the stories instead are more tipped to the unravelling of the cold case mysteries.
I highly recommend this series and the authors Oasis series. Start with book one in each series.
Tried a free book and am now going on book 8 in the series. Those aren’t free and worth every penny.
I started reading the Prey Series featuring Lucas Davenport 20 years ago and I have the most current book in my reading que. wonderful stories that are action packed and very believable.
I read this box set in a couple of days had a hard time putting them down. Very good read!
This is a set of four books and Read them all one after other. Not on a level with Parker’s Spencer series, of Child’s Reacher books, but an enjoyable series, and I will read more as they become available.
