THE DEAD AND THE MISSING by A.D. Davies is storytelling at its finest. As evidenced by the details, Davies is a traveler. I hung onto my hat as I journeyed alongside the protagonist to right several wrongs. I even had to duck bullets a few times—at least it felt like it!
Adam Park has a business and plenty of money. He has been surfing for the last two years, now he needs to find his niece who has gone missing. He has no choice and is given a week to find her. She has taken a computer drive and a SIM card with damaging evidence on it.
This story takes Adam from England to France to Viet Nam. It looks like a straight forward rescue but because Gorman, who wants Adam’s lucrative business continues to cause problems, Adam is at times hunted by authorities and at other times cut off from his bank account. There are so many twists to this tale. All incredible accounts that keep the reader glued to the pages.
It failed to get my interest and I gave up half way through.
I thought this book was too far-reaching in asking the reader to believe in all the “coincidences” that happen. I didn’t like it’s “balls in your face” attitude. Also didn’t like the main character so then it’s hard for me to like the book. For all his experiences in the world, he is terribly naive.
Too much violence.
Poor plot, lead character comes off like an incompetent idiot
Starts interestingly enough, but then becomes repetitive and even outright dumb.
A little convoluted but an enjoyable read.
This was a pretty good book. A lot of twists and turns you didn’t see coming. The main character took the moral high road a little too far and lacked believability.
Great thiller
Great detective story. Time limit placed on the main character solving the plot was effectively used by the author. At times I was confused who was the good guys and bad guys as they were blended very well in to story. The ending was little weak to me but did not distract sufficiently from recommending good book.
Action packed story from start to finish. Not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach, brutally honest descriptions. Looking forward to the next book.Highly recommended.
This book kept me wondering and guessing who the bad guys were. Very entertaining and hard to put down. Loved the story lines and the true to life characters.
i can only say OMG read this book.
This book developed a little slowly and went in many different directions. A little more convoluted writing than I like.
Reading and enjoying.
The Dead and The Missing is such a great read and written by an accomplished Author…A.D.Davies. Cast of characters perfectly tailored, a plot that has sub plots and a story to end all stories…made for a great thriller. Kudos to Mr. A.D.Davies for furnishing this reader with a fascinating book with many twists and turns and a whole lot of action. It never slows down and the rescue is IN. HIGHLY recommend this book!
Couldn’t really get into this book.
Great read. Written in first person, different and suspenseful. Will be reading more of this series.
Globe trotting action adventure with a laid back surfer attitude. Someone who has a strong Damsel in Distress syndrome fueled from past experience. A good; read lots of action. More real than James Bond and messier than Jason Bourne. Enjoy.
