Grusome but great read
DCI Yorke and his crew are great characters. Unfortunately, I read this set all in a row and by the end of the Book 3, I found the violence to be mind numbing and the losses to Yorke and his crew depressing. They are wonderful characters and I will read more of this series, but with breaks in between.
This series of books is about a detective in England. The first book is about a criminal family called the Rays. The killer is a female member of the family. The second book is about a killer who uses Aztec rituals to kill people. The third book revisits the Ray family and involves a kidnapping of their son.
I read the first book – a bit twisted for my taste. I decided to give book 2 a read, thinking it may be different – it wasn’t so I quit half way through.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series of books and look forward to reading more of this author’s books. Well-defined characters and great story lines.
Well written and hard to not just read straight through.
Just could not get into this series. Gave it up about half way through the first book.
Not my cup of tea. I finished all three. No horrible but just not the books for me.
Didn’t want to put it down!
I tried, but it couldn’t sustain my attention.
I have read book 1 now I am almost complete with book 2. Book 1 was a quick excellant read. A little slow kind of goes here and there quick but it wrapped up together nicely at the end. Book 2 seems to be following the same path. Enjoyable character Yorke is. With his alcohol addiction I can kind of relate. But hey that’s many reasons why we find the books we do and enjoy them.
Dark stories with unsatisfactory endings.
Loved it.
Gory. Not for the squeamish! But, very interesting books with lots of twists and turns.
‘The DCI Yorke Series: Books 1-3″ by Wes Markin takes us to England where we meet DCI Yorke and his team. We go with them on their hunts for serial killers and are often surprised at what they find. In Book 1, “One Last Prayer for the Rays”, we wonder what has happened to a 12 year old boy named Paul. We wonder why he left his school and with whom. We learn about the deranged Ray family that has been killing people for many years. We wonder if the boy will be found alive or dead. In Book 2, “The Repenting Serpent”, we meet a murderer who thinks he is an Aztec god’s servant who must sacrifices humans to appease his Aztec god. He kills the wife of one of DCI Yorke’s men and steals her heart. He needs to kill more people so his god is appeased and will reward him. In Book 3, “The Silence of Serverance”, we meet another murderer, Christian Serverance, perhaps the most brutal murderer of all. He has been working with a psychologist who has figured out how to make someone’s depression, pain and anger go away. Mystery lovers will not be able to put these books down. I read through the night because I wanted the brutal murderers found and dead. I got to know many of the people on DCI Yorke’s team and worried about their safety each time they were involved in incidents that could become deadly very quickly. Anyone loving mysteries as much as I do will find themselves rooting for DCI Yorke and his team and hope they can capture the murderers they encounter so that their killing sprees stop.
These books were a good read, though they got gross a few times.
