My name is Oliver Arsen, but my mates call me Ollie.I live hard and love harder, and it’s love that usually gets me in the most trouble. According to the greater population, I’m the ultimate jerk.My affection tends to be short-lived—a quality I’ve been assured multiple times by the fairer sex isn’t becoming—and the leaving part of loving and leaving has always come natural. At least, it used to.… has always come natural.
At least, it used to.
Until her.
Luciana Wright.
She’s an American bombshell and my sister’s best friend—a woman so wrong for
me, it’s written in the waves.
And she’s the reason we’re all here.
The reason I have to go back to explain how it all went wrong.
To the day the jerk started falling.

I’m not usually a fan of duets because there’s often a big delay between books one and two but thankfully MM did us a sold and didn’t make us wait long for Ollie’s side of the story!
Seeing events from Ollie’s POV made me love this story so much more!! By the end of book one, I wondered if Ollie was really the jerk he was being portrayed as since there were so many things that he had done that were definitely not jerk-like. Seeing everything play out from his side of the fence was sheer perfection!!
Ollie has taken the top spot from Thatch as my favorite MM character! I want all of the books with these characters. I want a book for Jordy and everyone else we were introduced to on tour!! I want more MM ASAP!!
*This is my voluntary review of an advanced reader copy*
I knew book 2 was going to take this duet to the next level!
There is just something extra special about this hero’s point of view in this particular storyline. Maybe because he’s an Aussie or a surfer or has spent his whole life up to this point with casual or one night stands – never in a relationship. While reading book 1 in Lucky’s point of view, we don’t actually know how Ollie feels. if he’s even affected by her or if he has taken steps to truly ‘woo’ her. After reading his podcasts, we know without a doubt that Ollie is all about the woo. Talk about endearing! He shares all of his secrets, professes his feelings, admits his mistakes and won my heart so how could he not get the girl.
This duet, written as podcasts of these characters retelling their version of events, is so incredibly fresh and entertaining. Add the way their story unfolds after Ollie’s confessions. The action, the uncertainty. Will these two re-unite? Loved it all!
I doubt many other authors could have pulled this off – Max Monroe seriously killed it with such amazing characters and using such a fresh approach in creating a completely consuming, unique love story.
YES! For as much as I was anticipating getting Ollie’s side of things I wasn’t expecting my heart to be melted into a big puddle of mush. Thanks for that Max Monroe. This swoony rom-com was just what I needed.
I loved Ollie’s perspective. Getting to the truth behind his lies. Seeing how fast and hard he fell for Lucky. His helplessness to stop himself. But most of all, I loved seeing her through his eyes. Her strength and intelligence. Her beauty and vulnerability. Swoon city with a cherry on top.
And as Lucky heard Ollie’s words, every wall she erected came crumbling down. In her mad dash, her frantic need to get to Ollie, mayhem ensued. It was equal parts hilarious and anxiety inducing.
This duet from Max Monroe proves once again that this duo writes rom-com gold. From broken hearts and France to forgiveness and New York, The Day the Jerk Started Falling had laughing and swooning at the same time. Ollie and Lucky’s journey was proof that if it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you. These two challenged each other at every turn but they loved each other more.
The second book in this duet gives us the same story, but this time from Oliver “Ollie” Arsen’s point of view through his podcast that he all but blackmailed the head of Luciana “Lucky” Wright’s website to let him do to set the story straight. Ollie doesn’t care who’s listening, as long as Lucky’s tuning in. Ollie starts his tale from the moment that his sister, Allie (Lucky’s best friend and colleague) asks him to pick her up at the airport (talk about a “Meet Ugly” story no one is telling anyone’s grandkids…)
As Ollie regales us with his side, you can see where his true feeling lie. He really puts it all out there for everyone (and Lucky) to hear. Yet, Ollie has no idea if Lucky is even listening. In his last podcast before the rest of the Surf Tour picks up in France, puts his heart on the line by saying…
“Falling in love isn’t perfect.
It never was, and it never will be, and to think it could be is foolish.
Instead, I beg of you to join me in the imperfect.
Accept us for our flaws and live them with me.
Take the leap, get back up from the goddamn bloody mess we’ve left of each other on the ground, and take the leap with me.”
Lucky has spent the month or so when the tour was on a break to work and keep her head in the proverbial sand. She is not looking forward to last remaining stops on this tour, but knows she’s going to have to see Ollie again soon. Then her boss clues her in on Ollie’s podcasts, which she had no idea about.
How does their story end? Does Lucky take that leap with Ollie or does she still consider him a big ole jerk with a delicious accent, abs for days and an unbelievable tan? You need to read this duet to find out. It was just that good…
Yeah, I’m not going to lie, after the way book 1 of this duet ended, I thought there would be a lot of re-hashing of the story but in Ollie’s POV instead of Lucky’s. Thankfully, I was wrong, mostly. There is a little bit of referencing The Day I Stopped Falling For Jerks, but not enough to be annoying, just to kind of get your head there to see Ollie’s perspective. And it was enlightening. This guy might have been a jerk at one point but Lucky turned his world on its head and made him a better man. A sweeter, kinder… hard to say sexier as he probably had that in spades already lol.
But, oh my Lord. He definitely had me rooting for him.
This is a man who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to say so. In front of millions of listeners too.
That man can podcast with the best of them. Geez, my heart, I’m swooning big time over here. Ollie laid it all out there and then he had to wait to see what the outcome was.
Would Lucky forgive him? Would she follow his wishes? Or would it all be in vain?
And Lucky? OMG, I laughed and cried when I read her part. Let’s just say- never yell out an improbable request while in onboard a plane and in the air. I will never end well.
This has been a fun, sweet and sexy story and it got even better at the end. Not telling you how or why. Cos, you know-SPOILERS!!! But, believe me, you need this duet in your life. Brighten up your day and One-Click it now, you’ll be smiling just like me.
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the rest of this story and as such, I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. Talk about a binge-worthy read!
You guys…..
This story is AMAZING!
Finally getting to hear Oliver’s side of things was exciting and enlightening (the first book is from Lucky’s perspective). And it made you fall in love with him even more. He is definitely one of the most swoon-worthy book boyfriends I’ve read in a long time.
I think I fell in love with Lucky a little more during this story too. We definitely get to see another side of her, one that isn’t so refined and polished. Life has a tendency to throw curveballs at you during the most inopportune times, and Lucky is getting ALL the curves she can handle.
This story melted my heart. Knowing Lucky’s side from book one and now hearing Ollie’s side in book two, how can you not root for these two to find their happily ever after? I absolutely loved the story, loved the delivery, and loved the characters. This one gets ALL the stars!
Every single little thing about The Day the Jerk Started Falling is adorable! Ollie’s side of the story was addictive and endearing. I couldn’t stop reading! Ollie and Lucky are delicious together. They are fun and sassy. I had to have laughed through at least half of this book. This is a book that will leave you dazing out into lala land with this goofy, lovestruck look on your face.
I’m so happy that I finally took a chance on Max Monroe. Their humor is just off the charts! The characters they create are likable and fun. They feel real, like people you want to friend. I can’t recommend this adorable duet more! The writing is flawless and captivating. You will be pulled it, it’s just not possible not to be!!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
5 #TeamLollie Stars!!!
Oh Ollie! You sweet, sly, Aussie surfer, you! *heart eyes*
the Day the Jerk Started Falling was Ollie’s POV from the Jerk Duet. I really liked the fact his POV was not a word-for-word reenactment of book 1. We still get bits and pieces of scenes we first heard about from Lucky, but not the entire thing played again. This kept the story fresh and helped make Ollie’s POV more appealing and like a truly separate book.
I loved that Ollie was an Aussie. Australia is a Bucket List location for me so I was happy to have the main character be some one other than just a typical American Romeo LOL. I will say that some of the slang, while I appreciated it, was a bit hard for this American girl to fully understand LOL.
I loved how this story played out, especially the 2nd half (present day) of the book played out. Ollie is ridiculously dreamy and I’m sad his and Lucky’s story is already over. I am #TeamArsen and #TeamLollie all the way!
Told from Ollie’s perspective. The first part of the book is the meet cute through the end of the relationship told via podcast. The last half is a real time account of what happened after the podcast is released.
Super sweet and swoony. Ollie is so jerky but likable. You have to fall for his charm. Max Monroe is great at crafting the jerk with a heart of gold (Thatch is one of the best). Lucky is so vulnerable and sweet you are rooting for her to get her HEA. Great ending to the duet. Loved the cameo for fans of the Billionaire series. Just a fun read.
I have just finished reading The Day the Jerk Started Falling and boy what a ride it has been. The second in a duet that I can’t wait to read again and again, I liked it that much. The first book takes us through the meet-cute (or meet-ugly as Ollie calls it). This one does so again but from Ollie’s perspective. The podcast format is fresh and fun and makes me feel like I am part of the story. I can’t rave enough about how much I enjoyed this duet. This is my favorite series so far in the world of Max Monroe and a definite “don’t miss!” Enjoy!
I have read hundreds of romance novels. Some of them are predictable, some of them have characters I have to grow to love and some of them have endings I could predict.
This duet, especially part two, has none of those things. I have never read a more perfect story. I have never rooted so hard for a happily ever after and I have never swooned as hard as I did for Ollie.
Max Monroe made us work for this happy ending and it was worth every tear, every laugh and every heart breaking minute. This duet has honestly been the best two books in have ever read. There aren’t enough stars or words to say how much I loved this! Amazing work ladies!
A hilariously funny conclusion to the Jerk Duet! Lucky’s story of falling in love after a string of bad relationships when she had just about given up any hope of not falling for another JERK was book one! This is the Jerk’s story of falling in love with his total opposite who turned out to be exactly who he needed.
The second book of this duet was as swoony as the first! This Duet is my favorite of the author duo! Ollie and Lucky are an unforgettable couple.
Both stories are told in a unique fashion and I absolutely fell in love with these characters and their stories.
The second book picks right up where book one leaves off. We get to hear how Ollie fell in love with Lucky in his own words. It sheds light on his secrets and his perspective is honest, funny, sweet and swoon-worthy.
This was a book that you will definitely want to read in one sitting. I could not wait to see how things were going to turn out for my favorite characters. Ollie is everything you could want in your other half. The man is a sexy Aussie and that accent alone would have had me. But his ability to put himself out there and be completely vulnerable to not only Lucky, but the rest of the world, demonstrates his love and devotion to making this connection with Lucky into something more.
A duet you do not want to miss! #TeamLollie
The Day The Jerk Started Falling is the conclusion to the duet. I loved it! Ollie was so swoony, sweet and sexy. I loved Ollie and Lucky together. They had amazing chemistry! Great read!
If you fell in love with Ollie in The Day I Stopped Falling For Jerks, you will love him even more. Didn’t fall in love with him then, you will now. Ollie gets his turn, in a podcast, to share his side of the story. Hearing his tale, in his sexy Aussie accent, is entertaining and sexy (I’ll even admit to reading one of the parts to my husband of Ollie professing his love).
Love the style this is written in. I can hear him in his accent talking to us listeners. Max Monroe you outdid yourselves with this story and these characters. Will we be Lucky to have more Ollie in our lives?
After reading book 1 in The Jerk Duet I was counting down the number of sleeps until I got my hands on Ollie’s book, I’m not going to lie I have made no secret I’m a #TeamOllie supporter but this book was way more than I expected it was everything I wanted and more. I needed to see inside this mans head I needed to know what made him tick and that’s exactly what I got. Through podcasts I saw how vulnerable he is, I saw his sensitive side and I listened to him baring his soul to the woman he loves with a passion, I listened to him trying to win her back and throughout the book I hoped and prayed Lucky would listen and see the man I was falling in love with…….
This book had me going through every emotion in a matter of hours, it has all the feels you want from a great read and it will captivate you and take over because I’m sure once you pick this book up you won’t be able to put it down. Once again we see another side to the very talented duo of Max Monroe these ladies are certainly showing us how diverse their writing skills are. Great job ladies.
If you haven’t read The Day I Stopped Falling For Jerks then you must high tail out of here and get on it. This is the concluding book of the Jerk Duet, so just be ready to just fall in love with Ollie and Lucky.
We’ve all been waiting for this book, thankfully for not very long. But we were all eager to hear Ollie’s side of the story especially the way things ended after book 1.
Now that I knew what to expect with this one, writing style-wise, I was more than ready for Ollie’s podcast. And let me tell you, he’s one swoon-worthy hero that I absolutely loved.
It was cute and sweet, and darn right irresistible. I couldn’t put this one down at all. As I was reading every chapter and falling more in love with Ollie, I was so ready and hopeful for his and Lucky’s reunion.
The one thing I was hoping for more of was of them being together. Can we get extra podcasts from them both, pleaseeeeeeee?! Their banter is absolutely hilarious and I couldn’t get enough of it.
Max and Monroe have easily become one of my favorite author duos. I’m always looking forward to their next read. I wish I took more time reading this duet, but it was just so easy to devour.
The Jerk Duet is such a unique read that’s written like a podcast. I wished so hard it was a real podcast because I’d be an instant fan and download every episode. Lucky and Ollie had a little bit of a hate-to-love relationship, but things changed when they couldn’t fight their attraction towards each anymore. Be ready to swoon because you’ll definitely swoon hard with this one!
I will forever love this duet!
Max Monroe
Max Monroe are simply genius…Outstanding book. This book like the first in the Duet The Day I stopped Falling For Jerks was witty, emotional and shows there are two sides to every story.
The story of Ollie and Lucky is one of their best. I know that after reading this I am #TeamOllie – great job ladies.
Oy, how do I write this.
I have been hanging out for Ollie’s side of the story, but unfortunately for me, this was a bit of a miss.
As an Aussie, I praised Max Monroe for not falling into the trap of making Ollie sound like Paul Hogan, throwing another shrimp on the barbie.
Unfortunately in this second part of this duet, they have fallen into the trap. It is like Crocodile Dundee and Steve Irwin were used as reference material on how Australians speak.
I won’t lie, I nearly did DNF this book as it grated on this Aussie ear so much. What this book really needed was an Aussie beta reader or proof reader who could tell them that “hey, Australian’s don’t talk like that” and “whoops, you got this saying completely wrong”. Oh, and the blokes and sheilas stuff – just nope. They most probably won’t bother non-Australians but they irritated this one so much.
I did persevere though, and found that the second half of the book was a lot better, a lot less “ockerish” than the first half.
I would have liked more of the present day than the first half of the book being Ollie’s retelling of the first book, but this could just be me.
I did enjoy where things went when we got to the present, and I did like Ollie’s voice through the podcasts.
So whilst I didn’t love it, I did eventually like it.
Oh Ollie, I knew there was more to you than what we got to see through Lucky’s eyes! I never fell for you being the biggest jerk in all the world. You’re my boy Ollie and you can call me Little Fire whenever you want! Or you know, just call me. #TeamOllie all the way.
The Day the Jerk Started Falling gave me everything I wanted in the conclusion to Lucky and Ollie’s love story. I loved getting Ollie’s side of things. Hearing how he fell for Lucky in his own words was just so perfect. He’s seriously the sweetest and the swooniest, and he’s kind of giving Thatch a run for his money as my favorite M&M hero. But for God’s sake don’t let Thatch know that, I don’t want anyone getting all up in their feelings!
While I did enjoy getting to see certain things that had happened through Ollie’s pov in his podcast, I almost wish his story jumped to present day a little sooner. I just wanted them to get together so badly! I loved when they finally reconnected, and all that transpired to get them to that point. And all that came after! It was all so cute and fun and swoony, and just made me feel all squishy inside!
I really got a kick out of the way these books were told in podcast format. It was something fresh and unique and now I kind of want to find some podcasts to follow!
Finally we all get to hear Ollie’s side of the story, and what a story that was. He bares his heart for the whole world to hear. Lucky is finally unlucky in love, just takes her a bit to get there. These two I love the banter back and forth , the fun loving relationship they seem to have, even when it doesn’t seen so perfect. I’m sad it’s over I’m gonna miss reading about them.
