My name is Oliver Arsen, but my mates call me Ollie.I live hard and love harder, and it’s love that usually gets me in the most trouble. According to the greater population, I’m the ultimate jerk.My affection tends to be short-lived—a quality I’ve been assured multiple times by the fairer sex isn’t becoming—and the leaving part of loving and leaving has always come natural. At least, it used to.… has always come natural.
At least, it used to.
Until her.
Luciana Wright.
She’s an American bombshell and my sister’s best friend—a woman so wrong for
me, it’s written in the waves.
And she’s the reason we’re all here.
The reason I have to go back to explain how it all went wrong.
To the day the jerk started falling.
more
I fell. I lie down and laugh like a maniac. I need such books in the gloomy autumn evenings!
The Day the Jerk Started Falling is not just the conclusion of the first part of the duet. It’s also partly Ollie’s point of view.
The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks ended with a broken heart and, as it turns out, a total misunderstanding. So what does a man in love have to do to fix mistakes and regain his love? Well, expect a lot of explanation and groveling … 😉
Ollie drags heavy cannons releasing his own podcast in which he presents the course of his and Lucky’s acquaintance from his own perspective. And believe me – reading his story tinged with an Australian accent and filled with humor was A-MA-ZING! But there were also moments in which I was shaking my head disapprovingly at the stunts our Australian was pulling. After Oliver’s explanation, we can come to one conclusion – they were both guilty that the situation has gained such a turnover. And you could easily avoid it if:
1. Ollie was 100% honest with Lucky.
2. Lucky was not afraid of confrontation and explained everything with Ollie, instead of running away like a coward.
Buuuut … Perhaps it’s better that this story took such a turnover. Thanks to that we got to know the sensitive side of Ollie. We also saw what desperation leads to. And let’s be honest – each of us dreams of grand, romantic, swoon-worthy gestures that evidence the strength of our beloved’s feelings for us 😉 And Ollie won a medal on this topic! Although the circumstances were not too favorable …
Read this duo! Check for yourself how wrong the first impression may be, how little confusion can be mixed up and how far you can go to be good in love. Both books in this series are a powerful dose of humor and moments that melt the heart. Max Monroe once again proved that they are queens of rom-coms!
I literally gobbled up this fabulously funny, sexy Romcom ! I waited patiently for Ollie’s POV regarding his Fall for Lucky and I was so not disappointed. I truly enjoyed their banter, chemistry, and adventures. Loved being a witness to his thoughts and actions . The realization of the moment when he finally realized this gal was the one for him was funny, beautiful and oh so eye opening for Ollie. Such a great story!

Eeeep – finally book #2! Phew that was a long-ass waiting-time for this book!
(It was only a week, but still. #OLLIE!)
This time Ollie is talking/writing to us in the podcast. He needs us to hear the story from his POV!
And we start a few hours before he has to go pick up Lucky from the airport in Sydney.
Poor guy. He only got 90 minutes to get used to the idea that his sister’s best friend will be traveling around the world with him.
Again we see how Lucky and Ollie do not start their ‘thing’ with the typical and sweet and funny meet-cute moment. Nope. It’s a bit of a hate-at-first-sight thing. But of course there’s also this huge attraction simmering in the background – behind all that arguing and hating. But Ollie will tell you all about that and about everything else!
LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN!!!
ADORABLE!
Ollie’s POV was just as adorable as Lucky’s.
I just wished we would’ve moved through all the repeating-moments in the first half a bit faster. Not that he repeated all the conversations or anything. It wasn’t boring or stupid. I just wanted to get to the point where they get together again in the present time! It was just too long. Half the book was stuff that could’ve been cute into half or even less! But it was also fun and sweet to read Ollie’s thoughts about the whole thing. I definitely loved the second half of the book so much more.
I really adored this series/duet. Everything was so cute and funny and australian-ish and sunny and oceany and travely and surfy and … OLLIE! (Even though the australian-ness of the book was hugely over the top. In book #1 it was really ok, but Ollie’s book! He was like a comedy-comic australian! Very Weird. Blimey!)
Can I get a fanfic kind of spin-off where Ollie and Thatch fall in love?? That would be amazing!
I liked the first book more – it could’ve done as a longish book instead of a duet – cut a lot of pages and repeats and just make it a dual POV book. I would’ve loved that much more!
I missed the rest of the travels in the last book too. I was looking forward to Portugal and Hawaii :/
Once they met in Paris the story was basically done.
BUT – I still really enjoyed reading those two books! Ollie is adorable! And Lucky is really fun and crazy and … reading her POVs is really entertaining!
Can’t wait to see what will be next by those two author-ladies!
THE DAY THE JERK STARTED FALLING was the almost perfect finale in this amazing Jerk duet! An adorable & funny Podcast-Romance! I just loved it! Hurry to your nearest amazon – Ollie will be sold out in no time!!!
It was great to see this second half of the story from Ollie’s point of view, and for once a book like this really did explore completely different aspects of the relationship. So, it’s extremely well done. This series, for me anyway, is the best thing they’ve written to date. I loved it.
Mmmmm.. book two… in this book Oliver is doing the podcast, however, Lucky isn’t aware of it until she is due to fly out for the rest of the surfing tour. Fun a light entertainment follow.
WOW! This book was the perfect sequel. Loved that it was written from Ollie’s point of view. The way he described his love for Lucky…Sigh. This duet is a MUST READ!!!
I loved this book at first I was team Lucky then I read Ollie and then I was team Ollie and now I’m team Lollie!!
In the first book we got Lucky’s story in a series of Pod Casts. The book ended half way through the tour with a cliff hanger this book starts out with Ollies pod casts with his version and then the rest of the story!
I loved everything about this book!! I love their writing style and how they make the best love stories!! I can’t wait for their next book!!
Aahh! How exciting was getting to see Ollie’s side! He has such a captivating presence. He’s so real and it’s refreshing to see that while he’s sharing his side of the story.
I loved Lucky too. She’s a little fire and maybe a bit of a hot mess in this book. Definitely my favorite duet this year. It’s addicting, you feel as if you’re really listening to each new episode. And that ending was a lot better than the ending of the first book. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
NO SPOILERS!
The Day the Jerk Started Falling was an absolutely perfect way to conclude the Jerk Duet! Ollie and Lucky’s story was quite the unique, funny, sexy, and engaging adventure, and I’m so glad that Max Monroe was the one to tell it. This super talented and hilarious author duo continues to be a top favorite, and I can honestly never get enough of their books. Max and Monroe have a special kind of romantic comedy magic, and it was a true pleasure reading their latest masterpiece in the Jerk Duet.
The storyline was fantastic. After reading Lucky’s side of the story in The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks, I loved finally getting Ollie’s side in The Day the Jerk Started Falling. The first half was a little boring at times, but still enjoyable. The second half was definitely my favorite, and I was hooked, line, and sinker. I felt like I was experiencing Ollie and Lucky’s story right alongside them, and couldn’t have loved it more. I laughed and smiled and swooned like a fool, which are the best feelings to have when reading a romantic comedy or any romance, period. Max Monroe did a phenomenal job with the entire Jerk Duet and Ollie and Lucky’s story, and I’ve never read anything like it before. It was unique, fun, sexy, and entertaining, and I was ecstatic with the conclusion.
The characters were phenomenal. Ollie and Lucky were pieces of work and gave each other a run for their money, but I fell head over heels in love with them and their story. I loved their personalities and chemistry together, and how their relationship progressed throughout. I loved reading the book from both Ollie and Lucky’s point of view, and all of their playful, witty, and sometimes hilarious banter and interactions with each other. It wasn’t all fun and games by any stretch of the imagination, but every single moment – both good and bad – was completely worth it in the end.
The Day the Jerk Started Falling was the perfect way to conclude the Jerk Duet and Ollie and Lucky’s story, and I would HIGHLY recommend it and The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks! Max Monroe have proved time and time again why they are one of the BEST author duo’s out there, and one of my TOP FAVORITE authors EVER! They blew me away with Ollie and Lucky’s story, especially in The Day the Jerk Started Falling, and I can’t wait to read more romantic comedy gold from these two wickedly talented and humorous ladies!
“If you’d have told me ten years ago I’d end up falling in love with a woman who couldn’t swim, I would have told you to f@%k right off. I mean, the irony of a professional surfer and a woman who can barely stay afloat to save her life is truly overwhelming.”
The Jerk Duet is fun, flirty, and fresh. The wit and tension with the antagonistic enemies-to-lovers banter mixed with the emotions of the hearts-on-the-line bare all between Lucky and Ollie is wonderfully written. Great humor and I love the story format mixed with the podcast POV! I’ve found a new author – well authors – I need to add to my TBR list.
*Duet Review*: 4.5 overall stars
The second part of Max Monroe’s Jerk Duet, you definitely have to read The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks first. Keeping with the podcast format (albeit in written format at this point) of the first book, this is a combination of the existing story from Ollie’s perspective as well as a continuation/conclusion.
What I liked so much about this was that this wasn’t simply a rehash of existing events, simply told from another person’s POV. While there’s nothing wrong with that, sometimes I feel like authors are doing this less to present an alternative viewpoint as much as they are hoping to cash in on a book’s popularity. In this case, it was nice to see a book that really explored the “rest of the story” (sorry, Paul Harvey, may you RIP).
I’ll admit that while reading the first book, I never really got the “jerk” vibe from Ollie despite Lucky’s continually calling him one. Ironically, I think I found him far more “jerky” at the start of this book. But fear not, dear reader… Ollie redeems himself spectacularly and not only maintains, but clinches his swoony status.
Max Monroe is (are?) one of my favorite authors. They never disappoint and I’m always eagerly waiting for their next release.
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
Oh my gosh, I just fell in love with the Jerk. 100% fell hard for him.
After reading the first book in the #Jerk series I KNEW I just HAD to read Ollie’s book, to have Ollie’s side of the story. I NEEDED to see what he was like, what he was feeling and experienced and damn, I sure did feel everything. This guy, sweet baby Jesus he’s unlike no other.
*sighs* it’s crazy how much one can fall so damn hard for a fictional character but fuck sake, when you read the book you’ll understand why. He’s so damn passionate about Lucky and isn’t afraid to show it. He’s the player, the guy that can get any girl he wants and does in fact do so until he meets the girl that makes his heart beat at a different pace, that makes him want her and only her.
Reading about Ollie expressing his feeling’s through his podcast is damn near heart melting. The things he says about Lucky, to her even is so beautiful and sometimes dirty because he’s a man, duh. But it’s incredible. To have a man think and say things like that about you is in fact swoon worthy and I envy every single woman that has a man like Ollie, he’s perfection even with his flaws, they make him even more perfect
I can’t express enough just how much I loved this book, how much I loved Ollie and Lucky and their relationship and everything else surrounding it.
This series captured my heart from the get go but The Day The Jerk Started Falling just did it for me, it ticked all the damn boxes and had my heart beating wildly in my chest. I was rooting for these two, they belong together, they deserve their happy ever after.
Max Monroe did an outstanding job with this series, I haven’t been this captivated by a series in a while and I’m glad I was able to read them. I feel a book hangover coming on and I’ll welcome it because I just want to sit here in revel in the amazingness that is Ollie and Lucky. This book deserves way more stars than just 5! It deserves all the stars.
Max Monroe wow wow wow Ladies. You never ever let us down. This ending to an amazing Duet proves how Freaken brilliant you two are.
This was such a different kids of love story. A real slow burn but this book was on Fire. Chemistry and banter. So many many emotions.
Getting Ollies POV was the best way to convey and help us fall for these two.
This book will make you swoon and drool. If you loved book 1 you will adore this
Grab it now and enjoy!!!
After Lucky does a podcast of her time with Ollie, and how she fell in love with a jerk, Ollie, pours out his heart and soul to Lucky, in a podcast, and it’s just the sweetest, and most honest thing ever.
His heart is broken and openly exposed to the world.
He is in love and she wouldn’t accept his calls or respond to his texts.
He needs to win her back with honesty.
A beautiful story that will keep you from your real life.
Max Monroe had done it again.
This was a fantastic end to an equally fantastic series. I loved everything about it – the banter, the wit and charm, the angst. I loved it all!!
I will admit going into book one I wasn’t sure how I was going to like the style in which the story was written. Watching everything progress through the text of a podcast was unique and original and, it turns out, quite enjoyable.
I loved getting Ollie’s point of view in this one and I think it made the first book better. The duet was fun, flirty, funny, and full of swoon. Fall in love with Lucky and Ollie!! You won’t regret it.
~ Kimberly Anne
Ollie is a jerk but I love him anyway!
Oh yes! I loved reading second part very much. Ollie is total and utter jerk but the way he put himself there in his podcasts made me swoon for him even more. I like that his podcasts are not 100% retelling the story but we got the parts that Lucky didn’t mentioned. I loved every single line of this story. Especially the ending. I didn’t know what to expect but it totally worked at the end. Funny, witty, and sweet story.
Amazing book . YOu can not go wrong with this duet.
Max Monroe did it again! Ozzie’s Podcast is amazing. So much heart to go with all of the laughs. I couldn’t put it down! This duet hit it out of the park … a home run!
Team Ozzie … Team Lucky … for me it’s Team Ozzie! Pick up this awesome duet by Max Monroe to find out which team you will join.
There are two sides to every story, so while Lucky gave her side of things in The Day I Stopped Falling For Jerks, allowing her podcast listeners and Max Monroe’s readers her perspective on all things jerk, including the biggest jerk of all time – Ollie Arsen – there are still more insights to be given…truths to be revealed…lies to be amended, and the only person who can offer that required information and hopefully by him offering up his heart and his soul to the public but more specifically to his Little Fire, he’ll get a second chance to do things right, and this time, not end up breaking Lucky’s heart as well as his own.
Book 2 is Ollie’s opportunity to ‘reset the truth’…to dig himself out of the hole he made for himself and acknowledge his extreme ineptness when it comes to relationships and feelings, and throughout the days and hours of his podcasts, the public receives a candid and honest Ollie – one who takes us back to when everything between him and Lucky started, providing another view to what we already know and giving us an opportunity to see the full picture of how they began and how and where everything between them imploded. Ollie takes us through the steps he took and the choices he made to get the girl, and while some of it highlights his less than stellar decisions and actions, it’s his honesty that keeps us rooting for him, hoping that Lucky takes the time to listen to his heartfelt words and figures out a way to reopen her heart to the man she loves.
Ollie’s perspective is candid, hilarious, and beyond entertaining. I love that he laughs at himself and has enough shame to feel bad about the lies he told and devious things he did in order to keep Lucky to himself even before he had her. Max Monroe’s crafts Ollie’s point of view using a conversational and easy-going tone, which makes it seem like we’re talking to one of our friends and listening to him unload the details of his mess up and what he plans to do to fix it, if that’s even possible.
After Ollie finally catches his listeners and readers up on all that has transpired to get him and Lucky where they are right now – further apart then they’ve ever been – there’s still more story to tell, which means that we need both his and Lucky’s viewpoint and the whirlwind of affairs that transpires to reach the ending of their tale is quite a production, but I wouldn’t expect anything less based on all that they have already endured in front of quite the captivated audience.
The Jerk Duet is a creative, humorous, and honest set of books, and I more than enjoyed both of them because of their writing, their character development, and their presentation method. And, there’s definitely a few supporting characters whose stories would be just as intriguing and entertaining as Lucky and Ollie’s story was.
4.5 Poison Apples
TDtJSF by Max Monroe is book two in the authors duet and is not a standalone. You must read the first book in the duet before you start this one. And believe me when I tell you, it’s so worth reading.
TDtJSF is told mostly from Ollie’s POV. The book picks up where the previous one was left off. Oliver, Ollie Arsen is clueless that his girlfriend Luciana, Lucky Wright has left him and moved back home. He can’t understand what happened. The surfer super star isn’t equipped to deal with such drama and high maintenance. He follows her and starts his own podcast.
Lucky is back in stateside and licks her wounds. She’s hurt and jealous. Ollie has a lot of explaining to do, if she’s ever ready to hear him out.
Just like book one, this story is a witty and fun read, mostly told in a rare male POV. I lobed book one and I liked this installment just fine and give 4 rom/com stars.
