Sera and Mal exceed every second chance expectation there is and they break the bounds of historical romance it in classic MacLean style. Sera has been mourning the loss of not only the child she lost (along with the possibility of more), but also the life love and happiness she was robbed of with Mal when the ploy was brought to light. Fleeing was her only option at the time, but now she has returned to finally cut the finally ties and free them both. He should be relieved he asked her to leave so why when she petitions for a divorce does he act as though she is doing them an injustice? Mal knows always knew that he overreacted when found out Sera’s plan. He had always intended to marry her, she had just forced had just forced his hand and not for his title or prestige. She may have drew first blood as it were but he committed the ultimate sins against their marriage. He realized his mistake the moment she left and has been searching for her for years. When she walks in looking for a divorce he is blindsided and disheartened. Yet he is determined to win her back even if he has to use subterfuge. Winning his duchess back may require him to make a few sacrifices he hasn’t thought of – even more drastic than being dunked in a Koi pond!
I absolutely LOVE this whole series. Everyone is witty, fun, and lovely. I cannot speak highly enough about this cast of characters. Love love love!
Beautiful love story and well written. However, I desperately wanted the H and h to talk to each other. When they finally did, it was so romantic. Wonderful dialogue – I fell in love with the H. The h frustrated me because of her mixed signals to the H. The sisters were very entertaining. I will mark this one for my reread collection. First read for this author.
