I’m Luciana Wright.Everyone calls me Lucky, but when it comes to love, I’m anything but.I have a long history of dating the wrong men.You know the ones I’m talking about. The beautiful, charming guys who are quite literally too good to be true. The ones who are impulsive in love and prefer short flings over long-term relationships.I’m talking about the jerks. The guys who taste so good, but are so … the jerks.
The guys who taste so good, but are so very bad.
After going through the most ridiculous breakup in the history of breakups, I thought I’d learned my lesson. I officially put myself into jerk rehab and committed to changing my ways.
But, let’s be real here, love is never that easy.
Especially when an arrogant, charming, he-devil of a sexy alpha man gets involved.
Aussie accent.
Tanned skin.
Muscular, surfer bod.
Gorgeous brown eyes.
And the kind of sexy smile that brings women to their knees.
Oh, did I mention that he’s also my best friend’s brother?
Yeah. This story, my story, it’s a real doozy you guys.
The day I stopped falling for jerks, I met Oliver Arsen—the biggest jerk of all.

Eeeep – a new Max Monroe Rom-Com Duet! YES!!!
Luciana – Lucky – just broke up with her latest idiot of a boyfriend. It all started as a we’ll-stay-friends kind of break up, but it ended rather publicly in Yankees Stadium. LOL.
And now – after saying NO to any kind of dating, especially jerks, for the next 200 years – she meets him: Hot aussie surfer boy Ollie. Brother of her best friend and colleague Allie.
Allie organized for Lucky to travel with the surfing championship crew to write a bunch of articles about the whole thing.
Ollie might be the hottest guy she’s ever met, but he might also be the biggest jerk of all. But the heart wants what the heart wants… or rather the body and the reproductive organs want what they want. And mayyybe he’s not really the jerk she thought he was …. ?
LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN!!!
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!
SUCH A HILARIOUS & ADORABLE STORY!
This is not a normal book book. Lucky is writing/reading it as a podcast. Which is really funny!
I adored the book from the first page all the way through the end … and I NEEEEED book #2 asap – it will be here in only one week – I might survive until then.
Ollie is such a cocky and adorable guy, but they kind of started on the wrong foot – they started arguing the minute they first met at the airport. Adorable!
But of course we also see those sparks flying – it just takes them a little while to notice. Well, Ollie might notice it right away – we’ll get to hear about that in the 2nd book I guess. But Lucky is desperately clinging to the ‘hope’ that he’s a jerk and that she can’t fall for him. Too cute.
I really adored this book. It was so sweet and funny and sunny and oceany and travely – we go to all these amazing places for the surfing championships. Beautiful!
↓↓↓ RANT ↓↓↓
The only things I didn’t like about the book …
(please don’t hate me for my upcoming complaints – I really loved the book, but some things just bothered me tiny bit! )
Ollie is 37 years old. That’s a bit old in my opinion. He could be a rich retired surfer at age ??? 30 maybe, or 32? 37 is a bit old for Lucky and for the young vibe he has going :/
And another thing. The word PRIOR. I know the word and I’m okay with it if it’s used in a book. But it was used in here EIGHT times and for those situation where everybody else would just use BEFORE or AGO. I hate prior. I know I’m weird. Very weird with some things in books. And prior is one of those things. Why use it? I’ve come across that word in books in the last few months a lot. No idea why? Is it some kind of thing in the US at the moment? Like I MEAN last year? I don’t get it. I just don’t like it – but that’s just me. (edit: I just finished the latest Nicholas Sparks book and it was in there a lot too!???)
And then … so sorry for my upcoming rant. And please forgive me MM and Florian! It’s just my personal taste!
THE COVER!
I like the one for the 2nd book. It’s not really my Lucky either – the model looks like a little fairy – but at least she’s got reddish hair.
But the guy on this cover? What is that? That ear ring??? OMG. That’s just horrible. HORRIBLE! He looks like he wants to audition for a George Michael Cover Band. (No offense George. RIP.)
That cover doesn’t work for me at all!
And even if I could overlook the ear ring and the rest of his face and hair and make-up – he doesn’t look at all like an australian surfer boy! I mean, I don’t need the longish blond curls or a natural tan. But he should at least look a little bit surfish. Maybe lose the shirt or .. no idea. His instagram even has some surfish pics – even though he’s still not my type, but still. But this cover? Nope! Sorry.
I STILL LOOOVED THE STORY. My Ollie just looks completely different.
Maybe like these ↓ – a cover without a head would’ve been soo much better than the ear ring one!
Even though I just complained a lot …. here’s my review minimized into one paragraph:
THE DAY I STOPPED FALLING FOR JERKS was such an adorable & funny Journalist-Travel-Surfing-Podcast-Romance! I loved it! Hurry to your nearest amazon – Ollie will be sold out in no time!!!
A completely new twist on romantic comedy, the story is narrated by Lucky Wright and it feels like curling up with a girlfriend while she tells you a story. Lucky is determined to stop falling for the same type of guy (jerks) but then she meets her friend’s brother. Ollie is a sexy Australian surfer who seems to be everywhere she goes. Fun and flirty in typical Max Monroe style!
ALL of Lucky’s exes are jerks. The poor girl has no luck in choosing her partners. After the last not very pleasant breakup Luciana Wright says STOP. From now on, she will try to avoid assholes at all costs.
Easier said than done, right?
When Lucky is sent on a business trip to interview and write articles about surfing, her companion and guardian will be Oliver Arsen – her bestie’s brother and surfing star. Devastatingly handsome – and, as it turns out, the biggest jerk in the world.
Lucky really tries to control the galloping heart, but how can you resist the Australian charm in a beautiful package?
Let’s focus on the heroes now.
Lucky’s character is just GREAT! A small, sweet creature, but spitfire when it’s needed. She is also funny, which is important to me in romance books.
And Ollie. At first he seems to be an arrogant, self-righteous asshole. But with every page we get to know him better and as it turns out, our Ollie is also caring and thoughtful. He thinks about others and tries to help them when the situation calls for it.
Together they’re an explosive mixture. When they’re bantering and also in moments when sparks fly. The book is a total slow burn, but believe me, their get-together is worth the wait!
Max Monroe. The perfect duo.
They create books that warm my heart and make me laugh. Their style of writing is so perfect that during reading I feel like I’m in a different dimension. And so it was this time. There were moments of ohhhhs and aaahs and of course a lot of laughing out loud.
I can’t wait for second book. I need more!
I’ve read several books written by Max Monroe, and this one was just a great, as their other books. The characters were well developed, the story hooked the reader in, the emotions were strong, and it continues in a duet.
This was written in the form of a podcast, but it so well described everything that was going on in the life of Luciana(Lucky), and Ollie. The descriptions of the surfing events were outstanding. Sadly the love life of Ollie and Lucky was also a mess, but hopefully it will be resolved in the second book. I can’t wait to read the POV of Ollie.
I recommend any and all books written by this duo.
I want to thank Max Monroe for writing these two books. I found them when I desperately needed something that was relationship-driven and fun. My Kindle seemed to be filled with a bunch of HEAVY stories that were full of mean actions and depressing themes. This came along like a breath of fresh air. It’s cleverly written, and the characters are wonderful. I couldn’t put it down. Fabulous book.
I absolutely freaking loved this book! There’s not one bad thing I can say about this amazing story. Except it ends without closure! It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger per se but it doesn’t quite end either. Even though I have to wait for the next book I would still give it 5 stars. It reminds me a lot of How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days.
Ollie and Lucky…….. Parts of their relationship are sweet and sassy. Enjoyed the surfing concept. There are some continuity issues which I struggled to overlook..i.e… the dates for her two boyfriend articles were due by 25 June but it is still discussed in July….
Loved, loved, loved this book! I’ve read books by Max Monroe before and enjoyed them, but this book is on a whole other level of goodness. The book is told from Lucky’s point of view, told through a series of podcasts giving flashbacks to how she met and started falling for surfing entrepreneur Ollie (the jerk in question). The reader knows that things have taken a turn for the worse between the two, and the book tells the story of how that happened – her first impression, how he starts to grow on her, how they start to become more. Please be warned that this is part of a duet – you do not want to read this book without following it up with its companion book, which tells Ollie’s side of the story. This is quite possibly the best book that I read all year, most definitely in the top 5 (and I read a lot of romance novels). It’s a light-hearted, fun and often funny read that also balances the humor with some pretty strong emotions and heartache.
This is my favorite Max Monroe book to date. It was a new take on story telling for sure. They way the story was told made me feel as if I was actually tuning in with every new chapter.
I loved the banter between Ollie and Lucky. It had all the humor of Max Monroe with tons more swoon worthy moments for me.
I wish there was a more dramatic ending but I’m still super excited for book two!! I can’t wait to get more Ollie.
I love Max Monroe and could not wait to read this book!!! This one is a little different from their usual writing style but just as awesome!
I can’t tell if I’m Team Ollie or Lucky I loved both of them and the way they interacted.
Lucky works for Snopes and usually writes dating and fashion but some how ended up covering a surfing competition all over the world she has to find her groove in writing about a whole new way and learning to like sports.
She went into this blindsided but has learned so much and had an awesome time even if she did wear stilettos on the beach!!
Ollie is not only a former surfing champion but also a laid back easy going kind of guy and owner of a very successful company who is also paying for Lucky to be there covering the championship.
When they meet it’s like Oil and vinegar they have no like for each other. Lucky’s track record for only dating jerks send off many red flags and flashing lights to stay away from the sexy surfer…
Max Monroe has become one of my favorite authors this year I was introduced to them from a book blog and can’t get enough of their witty stories. I can’t wait to read the next book from Ollie’s POV.
Their writing style just sucks you in and you can’t stop reading until it’s done!!
“Looking back, I think I was doomed from the start when it came to Oliver Arsen. And still, to this day, I wonder if I ever really stood a chance to resist him. I guess I’ll let you all be the judge of that, though…”
The Jerk Duet is fun, flirty, and fresh. The wit and tension with the antagonistic enemies-to-lovers banter mixed with the emotions of the hearts-on-the-line bare all between Lucky and Ollie is wonderfully written. Great humor and I love the story format mixed with the podcast POV! I’ve found a new author – well authors – I need to add to my TBR list.
*Duet Review*: 4.5 overall stars
The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks was a unique, funny, and charming start to the Jerk Duet by Max Monroe. I really enjoyed the first part of Ollie and Lucky’s story, however, something was missing that would’ve made it a five-star read for me. The storyline and characters were unique, fun, and interesting, but the plot was a little slow at times, and I had a hard time getting into it. Even though The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks hasn’t been my favorite book from Max Monroe so far, they still did a great job, and I’m curious to see how Ollie and Lucky’s story concludes in The Day the Jerk Started Falling.
My, oh my, Max Monroe has done it again – the ultimate book-boyfriend enablers have given me yet another BB (and girlcrush) to add to my collection. I’m not quite sure I’d consider this “enemies-to-lovers,” but Lucky has sworn off dating jerks and then meets, confident hottie Ollie, and sparks fly. And while Lucky found Ollie to be an annoying jerk, I’m not sure I’d classify them as “enemies.” The slow-burn aspect really lets that sexual tension build and boy, is it worth it!
The book is done entirely from Lucky’s point of view in a podcast format. I have no idea if this has been done before, but it is really a cute and different idea. The visual “pauses” for sound effects (sighs, giggles, etc.) could sometimes interrupt my reading flow, but it wasn’t too bad. If/when this gets made into an audiobook, it’ll be interesting to take a listen and see how it works.
This is a duet, which means this ends on a cliffhanger. The good news is that book #2 is coming out next week and I, for one, CAN NOT WAIT to get Ollie’s side of the story. He’s downright swoony, and did I mention that he’s got an Australian accent? Gah!!
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
Oh my gosh.
This book was addicting. I devoured it, I couldn’t stop reading as soon as I begun. Lucky’s story was captivating.
I’m sure at some point we’ve all felt a little heartbreak, I sure have and this girl, she’s felt it multiple times and you just can’t help feel sorry for her. It’s so sad and it makes your heart ache but damn, she doesn’t let it get her down she just vows to stop falling for jerks, nothing could possibly go wrong, right?
The answer to that you’ll have to find out for yourself and believe me you’re going to want to find out. The Day I Stopped Falling For Jerks is definitely a fun read, sad at certain points but fun. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book about surfers so this was a newbie for me but holy hell, I absolutely loved it. Have naked men with bods like that, heck yes.
This is my first read from Max Monroe and certainly won’t be my last. I’m super freaking excited for book two, Ollie’s story because I can already feel myself falling for this gorgeous jerk ugh. It’s fun, captivating and gives you all the feels.
wow this book was great . I laughed so hard . YOU will love reading this book . I also may have been inspired to write some Dear Ex boyfriends letters.
“Nah. I’m more of a when I like what I see, I have to at least get a taste kind of guy.”
And thus begins the downfall of Lucky Wright.
Okay, maybe it didn’t really begin there, but we all know Lucky didn’t stand a chance against the sexy Aussie, Oliver Arsen. I know I didn’t stand a chance. He’s all swoony and fun and charismatic. You know, all the things you want in a bloke.
Yeah, I may have picked up some Aussie lingo while reading these books. I couldn’t help it. A bloke? A sheila? Come on! That’s way better than guy and girl or dude and chick or what have you.
Anyway, this story is told in podcast form, which I found to be rather interesting and fun. She’s talking to the reader. Directly. Fourth wall stuff there, folks. But I LOVED it. It’s direct, Lucky is fun and intelligent, and a take no prisoners kind of gal. Sheila. Whatever.
I love her. I love her red hair, her knack for applying enough sunscreen to make me feel good about the bottles I use during the summer, and I love how she pushes Ollie away even when it is so very clear she wants that man.
And Ollie. Oh, I love him in this story (but the real swoons don’t happen until we get his side–I devoured these books, by the way. I put this one down and picked up the next immediately) and his jealousy and his devil may care attitude. It’s all written perfectly.
And then those details. The things they should have said and didn’t, the moves they should have made yet resisted, the accidents that were perfectly timed.
It all came together perfectly. Because Max Monroe has this ability to spin a story, make you feel like you’re there, and leave you wanting nothing beyond that HEA.
I’m not sure where this review was headed honestly. I just know the book is fantastic, but you’ll want to have The Day the Jerk Started Falling already downloaded and ready to go. Because Ollie needs his chance to tell his story. Their story.
DAYUM y’all! Whew…this might have been of a slow start for me but Max Monroe fully put me through the ringer and now I’m DYING to hear from Ollie!!
In this story, we hear Lucky’s side via a Podcast and I thought that was very clever and a fun new take on telling the story. Lucky is not-so-lucky in love but she meets Ollie (the brother of her best friend, Allie).
Ollie starts off as any other jerk but quickly morphs into a dreamy, Aussie, surfing god!
Another thing I loved about this book is the insight into Lucky’s job…and her Miranda Priestly type boss LOL
Overall, this was a FANTASTIC Max Monroe book and one of my faves from them. I honestly can’t wait to hear Ollie’s side of things in The Day the Jerk Started Falling!

This is more than a enemy to friends or hate to love, it’s more like jerk to prince charming. It all starts with Lucky (Luciana) and her very bad history with men. Throw in an assignment to follow hot surfers around the world for six months during a large surfing competition and you have a recipe for complete success.
Ollie is the uber hot ex-surfer who I want to wish into existence, for no other reason than to watch water drip off his body as he walks out of the ocean… okay time to fan myself.
Obviously this is an amazing read with super hot men and one hilarious woman. This is everything a romantic comedy should be. Add some beautiful beaches and now I’m searching anywhere I can to find surfing competitions. Why have I not read about hot surfers before??? (Review by Terri “Jane”)
I love a good book by Max and Monroe, so I was over the moon when I heard about this duet coming out. When it comes to authors that I absolutely adore, I tend to go into their books completely blind. The writing style was interesting and wasn’t sure what to expect with a podcast writing style. But I was surprised that it didn’t really bother my reading experience at all. Absolutely loved Luciana and Ollie’s story, which is told my Luciana’s POV. And for book 2, we’ll be getting Ollie’s and I have been dying to know his side since I finished reading this one.
What a treat this book turned out to be! I loved every little bit of it and I found myself crying at moments, because the FEELS, people. Quite the heartbreaking moment in this one and I was certainly unprepared for it.
This was my first time reading a book in a podcast style, I don’t normally listen to podcasts, the one’s that I’ve tried were a bit boring. And it made me a bit nervous to read this one, but I loved it in the end.
My goodness there were so many things to love about Luciana and Ollie. Their chemistry and banter was EVERYTHING in this book. And more than anything, they were the ones that drew me in so much. I really enjoyed that their love story took time, but it was evident since day one that there was something more between them.
Everything was going so well between the both of them and I was just wondering when the other shoe was going to drop! And when it did, cue the tears because it opens up Luciana so much more. And it just made me want to run to her and hug her!
I really liked Luciana’s concept of writing letters to her ex-boyfriend, it showed us another side of her amazing character. That she truly wanted to move on from the past of being consistently screwed over by her ex-boyfriends. She learned so much from each and every one of them, but I loved how blunt she was when it came to talking about them and how they treated her so poorly. She wasn’t trying to seek out revenge, this whole process was for her to get closure on the past. And by the end of the book, she came out so much stronger for it.
So yeah, absolutely LOOOOOOOOVEEEDD everything about The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks. Book 2 will be out soon and it’s Ollie’s story, I’m so ready to hear his side!
