Come for the clear, real, effortless writing and stay for the food, the empathy, and the women telling their everyday stories. I’ve read and re-read this one. Treat yourself to the audio version as Berg reads it herself in a voice that will sound like your own.
Fun read.
Great stories!
I didn’t finish this. I lost interest after the first couple of chapters. The title is misleading.
I don’t normally read short stories, but I simply loved this book! The stories were varied and interesting and the characters were wonderfully written. I’ve read novels by this author that I’ve enjoyed but this book in particular resonated with me.
I loved this tender novel! All the short stories of people as they worked their way through life’s (inevitable) messes touched my heart. I loved their vulnerability and hope.
Fun short essays about the the ironies of being a woman.
I loved this book. I could so relate to the woman on Weight Watchers, but each character in each story came alive in just a few pages and when her story ended, you felt like you were losing a friend. For so many years I wouldn’t read short stories oh, but I’m glad I read this book because the characters were wonderful and relatable. This is a quick read and I’m glad I took the time.
It was too silly
This is a book of short stories, which I didn’t realize when I purchased it. Some of the stories are wonderful – so easy to bond with the characters and the premise. Others, not so much – but then that’s my opinion. Someone else may love every story. However, I gave it three stars because in spite of everything, Elizabeth Berg is an excellent writer and I’ve read most of her novels.
I really loved this book.Have always liked the author, but had not read any of her short stories. As a WW lifetime member,I was screaming with laughter throughout the first story but the others were just as good, but in a different way.Loved it!
Very funny…lots of laughs!!!
Nuanced humor. A quick read.
Good collection of short stories, some funny , some poignant.
I did not fins this book as wonderful as some of her other novels
Many of these stories about women of all ages (but most of them in their 50’s – 80’s) made me laugh out loud. A couple of them are nostalgic and sad, but they all celebrate women.
A good laughs during trying times
This is so depressing that l don’t think l will finish. Maybe it’s supposed to be funny, but l don’t get it. Just a bunch of down stories.
These were stories. I liked some, found the first one hard to get through, liked the last one a lot.
