I have nothing but good things to say about this book. I haven’t read a book yet in this series that I didn’t like or found any thing that I would change. You can never go wrong reading a Gena Showalter book.
We are back with the Lords of the Underworld only this time we get Sabin. He meets a remarkable woman in a hunter stronghold that will change his life as he knows it. Nice build up of trust and making things work before the romance kicks in. There is also plenty of background story to really keep it moving. Great for fans of the genre. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Outstanding!
I have a hard time comprehending audiobooks. Luckily, this wasn’t the case with this book. The narrator did an excellent job allowing me to follow along effortlessly. Sabin, the immortal warrior who houses the demon “Doubt” stays away from relationships knowing his demon will destroy whatever self-esteem a lady has. When he rescues Gwendolyn from a hunters prison, he knows the timid little harpy wouldn’t last a week in his company. The thing is he doesn’t want her anywhere but his room, and his bed. I love how they both grow. Each discovering how strong Gwen actually is. I have to say, I wanted to bitch slap Sabin a few dozen times for his stupid action or thought. But men can be so stupid at times that you just want to pat them on the head and shake yours. Luckily they can be taught, and Sabin does learn. Great book, awesome series. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves paranormal romance with hot guys and the women that tame them
Fantastic series! Every character is so unique and special. The world amazing. And the over arching story line is so interesting!
Another Lords Of The Underworld book another 2 1/2 stars.
There were some parts of this story that I enjoyed, and every time I thought it could turn around and be decent, Sabin happened. Let me start off with rape is not okay. There is nothing sexy, sensual, or exciting about rape. Consent is sexy. Consent is exciting. THERE IS NOTHING SEXY ABOUT RAPE! There I was kinda enjoying the story when the next thing I knew Sabin was demanding Gwen to undress and shower with him so he can “mark” her, whether she wants him to or not, and when she says no, he forcefully rips off her clothes, even after saying no, and then gets her in the shower where all of a sudden I’m supposed to forget that he just forced himself on this woman to get her undressed against her will and now there is a shower heavy petting scene. No, not just no, but fuck no. This was a woman who just witnessed a years worth of rape, and she just instinctively feels safe with this guy. Again, no. There were a few other times where Sabin was overly forceful, and just when I thought he might, could, possibly, redeem himself he just acted like an abusive ass again.
Then there was the ending. They finally have their greatest enemy in their hands and because Gwen says so, he gets to go free? What? I’m supposed to believe that the rest of the Lords aren’t going to hate her for this? That is so utterly unbelievable it’s ridiculous. I don’t understanding people love this series, it’s mediocre at best.
Yet again I was left with many emotions. This series has a way of building you up, tearing you apart, then putting all the parts back together.
Each book gets better than the last. I highly recommend this series.
Sabin’s story!
3.5 Stars. Love the Harpies. Love the side POV’s. However, Sabin and Gwen are not my favorite couple up to this point in the series. The ending really really annoyed me. But all in all it WAS a good book.
I have a confession to make. Up until this story, I still thought of Sabin and his crew as “other” in regard to the Lords of the Underworld. Since the first story, The Darkest Night, didn’t really introduce us to these Lords until later in the book I almost thought of them as minor characters although they clearly aren’t. So this story was an important one for me so I could better start blurring the lines between the Buda Lords and the “other”. I believe this book did its job in that respect.
Gena Showalter is outstanding at writing chemistry between her characters. From the moment they laid eyes on each other, I felt the connection between Sabin and Gwen. I adore the way Gwen always felt secure with Sabin, even though he’s Doubt himself. Her customs as a Harpy are not something Sabin is familiar with and are not something a Harpy would normally discuss. Yet time and time again, Gwen found herself relaxing around Sabin or telling him things she has kept secret her whole life.
I wasn’t particularly happy that Sabin wanted to keep secret which demon possesses him. I felt that was a great disservice to Gwen…how could she know what to look out for if she doesn’t know what lurks inside Sabin? Especially being as the nature of his demon is to project doubt to all around him, and Sabin’s issue with caring for a woman is being afraid her doubts will destroy her sense of self, I would think forewarned is forearmed. I was quite anxious for that “secret” to come out and was beyond grateful once it was finally in the open.
As with the other stories, the author keeps the other characters in play while telling the main story of one couple. Poor Paris is still hanging in there and, from what I can tell, is still not getting his story any time soon. Quite frankly, I’m concerned for the guy. I appreciate the open and direct conversations Cameo and Torin had in regard to their situation. We get to learn more about Gideon, too. And, although we haven’t seen things from his point of view yet, I feel a bit more connected with Amun after this tale and cannot wait to find out more about him in the future.
The addition of the Harpies and the possibility of other magical creatures being part of this series is exciting to me. There are so many possibilities ahead, as well as possibilities with the children that are now included in the narrative. This author is doing a fantastic job keeping me hooked and wanting more.
