When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: … worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.
Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.
When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she’s on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her — East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents.
When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

Sooo good!
I thought it had an amazing plot that made me feel like I was on the journey with the main characters. It was a clear-your-schedual, can’t-put-down book that left me in tears when I had reached the last page.
I really enjoyed this series! It is one of my favorites ever!
This book spoke to the psychological mind and displayed empathy and compassion in its goodbyes. Beautiful persistence, stunning action, and original dystopian.
This book has you sitting on the edge of your seat. Heart hammering and tear jerker. If you want a book with action, drama and a little bit of romance in it, this is the series for you.
The Darkest Minds was a much more emotional read for me than I initially expected. I went into it thinking it would be a X-Men type story full of action and excitement. What I found was something much more human. Alexandra Bracken evokes so many feelings throughout this book that you almost feel light headed at times.
I can’t say what drove …
This book was not at all what I expected when I started out. I’ve read some of Alexandra Bracken’s other books, and have had mixed experiences (I loved Passenger and was less wild about The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding), but I thought Darkest Minds would be right up my ally since I love books about strange, paranormal genetic abilities. The …
Love this series!
I liked it. Didn’t love it, but I liked it. Action packed and interesting. Characters were strong and likable. Some of the action parts were a bit too detailed and a few places seemed to drag.
This book offers a slightly different take on the typical dystopian-kids with powers story. I found the characters believable in their vulnerability and found that I worried about them as if they were real people. Ruby makes a great strong female character even if it takes her a while to reach her full potential.
A deadly virus… broken society… corrupt government … yes please. I really enjoyed this book and couldn’t stop listening. It is sad and heartbreaking… and sweet at the same time. It’s a little XMen mixed with Maze Runner. The narrator in the audible version did an excellent job the voices of the characters making the story easier to follow.
Great series.
Loved it!
This is a great addition to the dystopian fiction genre. The characters felt like real people and behaved like you would expect teenagers who have suddenly become powerful and dangerous and extremely threatened. In ither words, although the world has turned upside down for these kids, they act realistically. This book is for fans of Divergent and …
Somehow, I loved every second of it.
First of all: I adored the creativity of this. The powers and the whole situation were fleshed out and detailed, and the world building allowed everything to shine. I felt like this situation was actually plausible (a common problem I seem to find in dystopias). The characters were mostly interesting. While my …

I enjoyed this book, part one of a trilogy. My daughter kept telling me to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. It was captivating. Enjoyed the characters and their uphill battles to find their place in society. I recommend this book as well as the second and third.
My Thoughts – 5 out of 5 Unicorns – I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! I bought both paperback and ebook copies of this book (though not on purpose), but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!
The new cover is what spurred me to read this book because I may have another copy of …
Never Fade This distopian novel was one of the best I have ever read. Written through the eyes of the character Ruby, Braken takes her readers on the adventure of a lifetime. There is romance, action, friendship, witt. I reread this book 3 times and each time the same feeling of not EVER wanting to put the book down came to me. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND …
