I read William’s story on release in March. I’ve since read it twice more.
How do you top a fantastic paranormal series? With the latest release of The Darkest King by the wonderfully talented Gena Showalter.
No spoilers. While this can be read as a stand alone book, the series is too good to miss as a whole.
I’ve loved the LOTU series including TDA books. I’m more in love with them today after being immersed in William The EverRandy’s story at last. The wait has been worth it and you’ll understand why when you pick this book up.
William’s story was definitely needed as he popped in and out of other’s books along the way. It’s bloodthirsty, violent followed by sweet and sexy, all the things you expect from a LOTU book and more.
I laughed, cried and cheered my way through the book. Gena throws everything at us and we truly live in the world with these characters. I mourned the end as we often do as readers.
Would I read this again? YES! For sure. Are five stars enough? No way!
Waiting in expectantly for the next installment.
We’ve been waiting such a very long time to meet William’s mate. While he spent so much time pining for Gillian, she was always fated to be his friend, not his other half.
This book was everything, I feel, we as readers were waiting for with our dear Willy. We learned of his ever-elusive past, followed his growth from self-loving playboy to devoted partner… and finally, watched as his trust and connection with Sunny grew. And miss Sunny Lane is the ultimate female badass – rainbows and spikes to boot.
This story was well worth the wait, and I’m eager to see whose journey follows next.
Love William and Sunny! This is a must read! Gena did it again!
Loved William & Sunny but it took me a while to get into the story but thoroughly enjoyed when I did. It was interesting finding out more about William’s past & getting to know him better along with introducing more characters (along w/other characters in more depth) that I’d definitely like to see more of (Hades, Axel, Pandora, his sons, other Kings of Hell). Maybe we’ll find out more of Wm’s & Axel’s past when Axel gets a book as there are still unanswered questions. Sunny was a good match for William, glad they got their HEA that they both deserved. While I did like this book & Gillian’s book it would be nice to see more of the original Lords in the books again. Also, if you read the book you will understand this, no more scenes like poor Aurora’s!! Overall this was a great read & can’t wait to see who’s book is next!!
This is the book that everyone has been talking about. We’ve known William since the first book. Playboy, killer, protector, and misunderstood demon. But not the demon part, through the books, William has grown, in fact, I’d say the series was all about William and every character he met along the way got a story. The last few books have made it mate about him than the main characters.
We’ve found things out after each book….
We’ve added more backstory to William’s life. And we have seen him grow as a lord.
And to be perfectly honest, I was glad he next got to be with Gillian. She wasn’t for him, never was, I didn’t see it, not even when they first met.
I loved Sunny. She was just what William needed. And the twist, that was amazing. I did have to chuckle, not the shifter or demon or human or even deity that I assumed William would end up with.
The dual personality that Sunny displays was ideal for William. Her killer nature was blood thirsty enough to contend with William’s. But the unsure, the shy part to Sunny was the right balance for William’s protective streak to show through.
The banter these had between them was funny. The caring moments they shared warmed my heart. And Gena knows how to write a love scene.
So William needs a decoder for his book (long ago a witch cursed him) if he can decode the book he will find answers to all the questions he’s had for so long. And maybe he will find his happy ever after. Because until the curse has been broken, William won’t find love.
Sunny is an assassin and decoder, she’s on a mission to destroy the poachers hunting her race, and then it’s onto the destruction of the nine princes of hell.
Finding the code is all William wants, but after spending time with Sunny, he wants his forever, and this crazy shifter is just the one to give it to him.
Williams book! Finally! I feel like I have waited forever for it, wondering who could possibly be his perfect match, his other half. Sunny did not disappoint! A contradiction of emotion, a funny, colorful woman who is powerful beyond imagining. Their journey is fraught with uncertainty, their attraction destined and scorching. The past a constant companion to them both, secrets and hidden truths will be revealed and their bond flourishes despite their perils. Loved every minute of it and what comes next is foremost on my mind!I can’t wait for what Gena Showalter has in store for us next!
I Give this Book a 5/5 Star Rating!
HEA(?): Yes!!!
Drama & Suspense: 5/5, I Honestly didn’t know what direction this book was going to go and I could predict worth a darn XD
LOVE IT!
Dark(?): 3-3.5/5
Romance: 5/5
Heat: 4-4.5/5
No Spoilers!
William & Sunny are my most favorite and most memorable couple! I will treasure them!
I love this book so much! Sunny is such a great fit for William, that I find it mind blowing how easily and immediately I fell in love with her.
I wish this book was sooooo much longer, this couple is like catnip to me! I can’t get enough of them!
I loved everything about this book and the fact that there are so many avenues for so many books, I’m excited for the future reads!
I Would Love to Demand (Lol) for Hades, Green’s, Reds, Blacks, Axels, and All The Hell Kings Books!!!
This book was terrible, such a disappointment for William’s character. Sunny was another prime example of an annoyingly childish female character that was supposed to be “sassy” and “badass”. It’s quite possible Sunny was more obnoxious than Anya and Kaia. If you are looking for William to interact with just about anybody else from the series, just put the book down now. You get a little bit of Hades and Axel, but that’s basically it. Honestly this book is one heaping pile of shit to go along with the rest of the series that is mainly compiled of piles of shit. There were a few hidden gems in this series, but The Darkest King is not one of them. The only good thing that happened in this entire book is that we actually get some answers about William, but not until the last 2 chapters. A book of this size would normally take me a day to read, and it took me a full week to read it because I had to keep putting it down or risk bashing my head into a wall to put me out of my own misery.
Loved it! Another amazing read.
An amazing book for William! Gena has always said her characters dictate their story, well we have been waiting for William to pipe up and he finally has.
This story gives us a look into his unknown background. Who he wants in his life….and a life mate .
Meet Sunny, a unicorn shifter and a code breaker but also the most AMAZING mate for William. She challenges him and he begins to trust her and she trusts him.
Gena is amazing and her words are fabulous or were they William’s words that were fabulous, either way
THE KING HAS ARRIVED and his QUEEN is fierce !!!! Excellent read !! Thank you Gena !!!
It’s becoming increasingly hard to come up with new ways to say how great this series is. But, I will try! This installment of the Lord’s of the Underworld series put a lot of pieces together from the 14 books prior. Having had a character that has been a part of every book since the second finally get his own story arc, it was magical. The way the story was put together answered a lot of questions and opened doors for this series to continue in one way or another for years to come. If you haven’t already stated this series, do yourself a favor and do just that. It may be considered a Paranormal Romance but the story line a all Gena and all Magic!
I have always been curious about William and the revelation of his childhood as well as his true nature is astounding.
Sunny is quirky and her past dictates her lack of trust. Revenge and justice are her two main goals. For her preservation.
William is set on breaking his curse and his only hope is Sunny. Trusting each other takes quite a lot of doing, and their banters are quite funny, even though Sunny’s continuous drive to punish gets a little tedious.
Somehow, they manage to tolerate each other, to break the curse of course. Never mind the attraction that they try so hard to hide, until they can’t. When all hell is let loose towards the end, revelations are made. Lies and secrets are exposed. It’s action packed with all the things that one would expect from this series.
Absolutely loved this book. Could not put it down. Full of humor passion excitement
We’ve all been waiting for William’s story for years and all I can say is that, it was worth it. I loved learning all about William, his past, his secrets, his feelings! Yes! William the Ever Randy has lots of them. Sunny is a new character and she is amazing! She’s exactly what William needed, she’s not afraid of him, she doesn’t fall at his feet and she challenges him in the best way. Showalter delivers with The Darkest King, she took risks and they paid off. This book also introduces a few new characters and paves the way for future stories which I’m sooo excited about! Hades and Axel both play a big part and I loved loved loved reading more about them. King is also full of action, plot twists and, dear lord is it steamy! Anyway, William and Sunny work, they made me fall in love with the LOTU world even more and I can’t wait to read the next one!
