From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Gena Showalter comes a new story in her Lords of the Underworld series… For centuries, Galen the Treacherous has been the most hated immortal in the Underworld. With good reason! This bad boy of bad boys has lied, stolen, cheated and killed with abandon. Possessed by the demons of Jealousy and False Hope, he has always lived for a single … single purpose: destroy everything.
Then he met her.
Former demon turned human femme fatale — Legion Honey — sought to kill Galen, but ended up parting with her virginity instead. Afraid of their sizzling connection, she ran away…and ended up trapped in hell, tortured and abused in the worst of ways. Now she’s free, and a shell of herself, afraid of her own shadow.
Galen’s hunger for Legion has only grown. Now the warrior with nothing to lose must help her rekindle the fire that once burned inside her. But as desires blaze white-hot, will Legion run again? Or will the unlikely pair succumb to love at long last?
Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.

This is the first book I have read in this series and it has made me want to read the whole series because holy hell even though it was a novella it was ONE HELL OF A NOVELLA! I got to see who Galen and Legion were and the story behind them. It is a haunting and dark story but it was one hell of a story that needed to be told.
Legion poor Legion she has been through hell and back and that is literal because she is in hell where she is tortured and abused. then she gets out of hell ready to start a new life but she is scared because she is not sure she can move on from what she has endured. Then she sees Galen and things start to change for her.
Galen is determined to get Legion back. That one night was not enough for him. He needs her always and will stop at nothing to get her back. He is determined to make her realize that they belong together.
Can Galen get Legion to see that they belong together or will Legion run away and deny herself what she feels?

Gena Showalter held me captivated with THE DARKEST CAPTIVE. This was Galen the Treacherous’ and Legion’s story.
I started following the Lords of the Underworld series when it first came out. I was drawn to it for two reasons. I love books based on mythology, and it took place in Budapest (I’m Hungarian). I am still impressed with his series. Gena Showalter does an amazing job keeping it fresh and relevant.
Galen is an interesting character. Unlike the others, he is possessed by two demons, False Hope and Jealousy. Legion is amusing. I like how she can be dangerous one minute and Princess Barbie the next. Both characters have progressed a lot through this series. I like how Galen’s and Fox’s relationship is sort of similar to Aeron’s and Legion’s.
I enjoyed the plot. It was skillfully written. It moved quickly and was thought-provoking. I like that Galen made some headway with his daughter, Gwendolyn, wife of Sabin, in this story. I’m interested in seeing what winds up happening with Fox. Her situation should make a fascinating story. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
The Darkest Captive is pure magic! Legion and Galen jumped off the page and came alive! I couldn’t stop reading!
I would like to premise this by saying that I LOVE THE LORD OF THE UNDERWORLD BOOKS!!! I am not 100% caught up, but I read the first 5-8 in the series. Gena Showalter continues to surprise me by just how freaking good her books are and also how i feel as if they are made specifically for me to read.
Now in terms of this novella, talk about taking 2 of the most unlikable characters in the series and putting them together. He is known as the villain and it was interesting to get into his head and figure him out. Might make me a bit weird, but I freaking loved being in his head! <3
Legion has no idea who she is anymore. She knew who she was before she was tortured down in hell, which really sucks because they probably knew exactly what to do to break her. She is very "princess-ish" with her love of flowing dresses, sparkly gems, and tiara and seems almost childlike.
I REALLY would not have expected these two characters to be put together, but oh my geez is it super hot! Not only that, but they truly understand each other and have a deep connection--- swoon!!!
Read this novella if you love Gena Showalter's series OR just read this if you love paranormal romances even if you weren't sure what is going on (there is some backstory)!
PS: I received this book for free in return of my honest opinion.
Well what can I say about Legion and Galen, they are two of the most unlikely people to make a couple, him being the most hated character for most of the series and her a demon that is chilike and a little needy most of the time, and quite a spiteful character suddenly being the hot new couple. I have missed reading the last few of books in this series and as this is supposed to be a standalone novella I thought that i’d be able to pick up where I left off but I did find it a tiny bit hard going and a little confusing for the first chapter or so but then it suddenly picked up and moved along quite quickly and I was able to read along easily once we were told some of their background. I can’t say that this was one of my favorite books in this series and I can’t say that I loved this book but I did like it enough to give it 4 stars. It was an interesting enough read with some hot sex, romance and some action packed fighting that will keep any Gena Showalter fan happy.
