Money doesn’t always change the man in The Dangerous Billionaire, a new standalone romance from Jackie Ashenden. Navy SEAL Sullivan “Van” Tate has been called home to reluctantly inherit an empire and finds himself facing the most difficult mission of all: love. “Sinfully sexy.”–Opal Carew on Mine to Take Nothing about Sullivan “Van” Tate is what it seems. A Navy SEAL raised among the New York … seems. A Navy SEAL raised among the New York City elite, Van prefers heart-pounding action over a Wall Street corner office. But when his adoptive father dies and his business rivals move in to overtake his empire, Van must suit up to save the company and protect the one woman most forbidden to him…and the object of Van’s most dangerous desires.
Chloe Tate is as ambitious as she is gorgeous. With a newfound independence, Chloe is no longer a prisoner on her father’s ranch. But everything changes when losing her father may also mean losing her life. Even with her survival on the line, Chloe can’t deny the burning attraction she feels the moment she locks eyes with Van, her rich, rough and ready, foster brother and the new head of her father’s company. Tall, dark, and muscled, he’s the one man who she has no business being with. But how can she resist a Navy Seal Warrior when he’ll do anything to protect her?

WHY DIDN’T I READ THIS SOONER!!!! It was soooo good and dang Van is surely an alpha dirty talker! I loved the beginning how we get a glimpse of the other brothers moods and in which their stories will follow.
I am a Huge fan of Ms. Ashenden’s work and when this gem came up about a new series, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. In this series we have the Tates’. Sullivan known as Van, Lucas and Wolf, all Navy SEALS and heir to the Tate Oil fortune. In a turn of events we also have Chloe Tate, their foster sister.. So upon the death of their Father, the boys are all given letters with specific instructions. Van, being the oldest, is tasked with protecting Chloe, from Cesare de Santis. If you have been reading Ashenden’s books that name should be familiar to you. Van sets out to do as his Father asks and little does Chloe know, the bomb that is about to explode her entire world. During the course of the story while Van is trying to protect Chloe, they fall in lust. For Chloe not so much, because she has had feelings for him that were not of the brotherly sort, since she was 16. Van fights his feelings, feelings that he feels are wrong for his foster sister until he can’t anymore. Eventually secrets are exposed that needed to be said in order for Van to be free of his demons and allow himself to fall in love with Chloe. I did find the relationship that the brothers had kind of distant and cold. They seemed to pull it together when they needed to but it seemed more that they did not get along with each other as they should. Even with Chloe, Lucas seemed very cold towards her. I also didn’t quite like the angle of foster brother and foster sister getting together that much. It was a bit repetitive, I mean you know they aren’t blood related but still it was repeated over and over. In the end they are met with some opposition to their union but they decide to have their HEA. 3 stars!

This book. This. Book. This book and I had an extremely … tempestuous … relationship. It’s not that I didn’t like it. I did. But there is this one little splinter that worked its way into every single thought about this book and it just kept festering and festering and poking and poking until I was so irritated that I couldn’t even enjoy the last however many chapters of the darn book.
Let’s do the nice stuff first because if I start talking about this splinter, I’ll lose my focus and who knows where we’ll end up. I liked the story. I really thought it was an interesting idea and for the most part, the plot was pretty flawless. There were quite a few little surprises that knocked me off guard and kept the book entertaining. Except for the splinter that shall not be named. Yet.
I also enjoyed getting to know the Tate brothers … Van is pretty badass and I don’t know how this dude could be topped or even measured up to with the other brothers. He’s so stubborn that he could win a gold medal at the Olympics for digging his heels in. Chloe was also a great character – her tenacity was almost endearing. And these two together was just a great romance that kept me wanting more.
But. That pesky splinter. Literally, my biggest issue with this book was one word. SEAL. SEAL!! Dude. If Van could have thrown himself parades each day to announce that he was a Navy SEAL, he probably would. It was over and over and over, ad nauseam (shout-out to my high school Latin teacher – those two years totally came in handy today). It got to the point where I started rolling my eyes every time I saw the word SEAL. Then I started getting mildly irritated. It finally came to a head when I shouted “JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL” and promptly put my Kindle down for two days. Two whole days. Me putting my Kindle down for two days – that is unheard of. But I was pissed! Just say that he’s a SEAL a couple of times, then we’ve got it. The readers will pick up on the fact that he’s a SEAL without saying he’s a SEAL every time he takes a breath or sneezes or uses his eyes. It was in the book like 40 times. And no, I didn’t count that shit … my Kindle did … so I’m not that damn crazy. But it ended up being like every 8 pages, Van was talking about being a SEAL or thinking about being a SEAL or dreaming about being a SEAL. Ugh. Over it. Now I’ll never be able to listen to Kiss From A Rose ever again. I liked that song. But it’s dead to me now. Just like this book. Until I get un-mad at it and I don’t know how long that will take. It’s really too bad because everything else about this book was almost perfect.

Overall this was a good read with a very hot Seal who came home to take over his father’s empire. Van and his brothers each receive an envelop from their father along with the will. We don’t know what the brothers missives are but Van is tasked with keeping Chloe safe. Chloe is their foster sister who has been living and running the ranch in Wyoming. Danger is afoot and Chloe is in the midst and she does not want anyone taking over her ranch. Oh, and she has had a crush on Van forever. Lots of sexy chemistry, heat, angst, danger, mystery, and intrigue keep this story moving.
This was not my favorite read but I am glad I read it.
