Sometimes a change of address can change your whole life.Declan Ward has been called a lot of things in his life. Drug baby, delinquent and dirty little gay boy just to name a few. As a child in foster care, he heard it all and as an adult he knows better than to worry about what other people think of him. But when he gets into a war of words with his neighbor, he earns a new nickname and this … nickname and this time, it’s one he likes, one he decides he should definitely live up to.
After all, the new guy never actually said what it was the D stands for in his letters, but Declan has a few ideas and would be more than happy to show him.
Brett Coburn is a mature, respectable adult. He doesn’t get into arguments and he doesn’t name call like a kid on the playground. It doesn’t matter that the guy in 403B is the best-looking man Brett has ever laid eyes on. He’s a dickhead and Brett has the letters to prove it. That’s why nobody is more surprised than Brett when their thinly veiled threatening letters take a turn for the fun and flirtatious.
Is it possible they have more in common than they realized? Can they overcome the rough start to their friendship and turn it into something more? Or if they let their relationship become about more than just the “D” are they both bound to end up broken hearted?

4.5 stars A great feels good with an enemies to lovers theme, as a standalone book.
A great start that includes a blurb (Love That) as Declan and Brett’s story begins.
A new author for me with this book. Declan has a fear of dogs after being traumatised by one in his younger years. This is an adorable book, and passing door notes adds to their chemistry as you will say. Smoking hot sexy scenes with both POVs included. I loved this for an all round feels good book with a beautiful ending.
Brett 28 was new to the apartments and worked as Veterinarian with a part-time noisy dog lol.
Declan is an artist that works nights at a gallery who also has a fear of dogs due to a childhood trauma. So when the new guy across the hall, Brett, moves in with a husky that incessantly barks every morning at the crack of dawn it riles Declan up. He leaves a rude letter on Brett’s front door about getting the dog to stop barking and waking him up. This starts a fun exchange of letters where they start to learn about each other and realize that they both want to get to know the other.
The first thing that comes to mind when trying to describe this book is adorable. I found both of these guys to be adorable. Their letters and interactions in the beginning were hilarious, flirty and fun. I really enjoyed this quick and fun read about Brett and Declan falling and opening up to each other. If you are looking for a quick, fun, adorable and steamy read then you need this book in your life.
Unexpected!
I thought this was going to be a lightweight read, but I was pleasantly surprised by the emotion I found here! I loved it! Sexy, romantic, funny, emotional. This book had everything I love!
Declan and Brett book takes you from on interesting twist to another you will laugh, smile, have tears in your eyes, and fall for these two and their sweet romantic read. It’s amazing and beautiful and will have you wanting more.
Declan and Brett are hilarious. The notes pinned to the door just made me laugh every time. A great read.
Declan and Brett were opposites in many ways, but they each longed for love. After a rough start to their relationship, which had some pretty funny moments, the two quickly fell for each other. I enjoyed their relationship, which was healing for both of them. I also loved Brett’s relationship with snarky teenager Star. Watching the moody painter and the sexy veterinarian deal with their insta-love made my heart happy. I enjoyed this romance, which was exactly what I needed to ease the stresses in my life. Very nice!
An enemies to lovers romance, full of quirky little pieces that was fun to read.
This book had a story-line that was really enjoyable to read, it was full of humour with steamy bits. Gives a whole new idea on how to deal with the noisy neighbours dog.
I especially loved the correspondence backwards and forwards between the main characters.
I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers and really enjoyed the buildup in this hot M/M story. Declan is a grumpy, artistic, hottie with sleep issues due to his new neighbor. Brett is the sexy new neighbor who is a veterinarian, volunteers at shelters and fosters animals. These two immediately rub each other wrong with a couple notes, which quickly escalate to flirtations.
This sexy, sweet story was so enjoyable. The chemistry was off the charts and the issues were dealt with in a mature manner. I really liked Star’s character and hope to see more of her. Highly recommend!
Declan and Brett! Just go read this…
Okay seriously, imagine that you work late at night and a dog barking incessantly wakes you up, you’d be annoyed as hell. So Declan leaves a note on Brett’s door, then Brett, etc… And let me tell you, the notes are golden!
Declan is so broken after being raised in foster care, I honestly want to just reach into the pages and hug him. Oh, by the way, he’s scared of dogs and Brett is the sexy veterinarian … Nope, that could never be an issue.
But back to the notes, because they are such a pivotal part of the story. Think about it, if you start off annoyed and leaving notes, but start calming down, what a great way to get to know someone. Aren’t there times it’s easier to write it than say it? Because when you hit a rough patch, you have some other way to work through issues.
But back to what I said earlier, read this.
Oh what a delightful read. The D- in 403B had me laughing and smiling throughout the book. The characters were very relatable too and seemed like friends of mine as I watched their story unfold. The storyline was witty, romantic and full of fun sassy charm.
This is a friends to lovers romance that will have you in stitches at times and wanting to cuddle the main characters at others. The storyline brings together two strong men whose lives are more alike than they realise. Declan is a well established artist who has made something of himself despite his being a product of the system. Declan is a loner, other than his best friend Star, because he learned at a young age not to get attached because everyone always leaves. Brett is the sexy vet that moves in across the hall from Dec. Brett is coming off a very heartbreaking break-up. These two meet via a series of not so nice notes from one another pinned to their doors, starting over a barking dog.
Reading the notes brought to life a very exciting, romantic storyline that kept me glued to the pages to see what was going to happen next. Would Brett and Dec get together? Could they help each other with their past issues and possibly become friends or more? This is an exceptional MM read that this reader simply loved and hopes to see more of down the road. Kudos to the author for giving us an exclusive peek into Brett and Dec’s lives – I simply loved it. 2 Thumbs up and 5 Stars.
A really sweet enemies to lovers story. Neighbors who started out on the wrong foot as they say, with a particular dog and a teenage girl involve. All they needed was a chance to meet each other face to face and fate will step in.
I love the messages that they wrote each other, like middle schoolers while attending their classes. It brings lightheartedness into life when life can be challenging most times. If you love stories that are low in angst but still touches topics like foster care, being with straight guys and being taken advantage of, willingness to make changes for the people you love, then you will truly appreciate this.
I really enjoyed this book. I found myself laughing out loud numerous times. The author has a fantastic sense of humor and it comes across in her writing. But there is also a more serious tone to the book that encapsulates both Declan and Brett’s stories. Declan had a rough childhood and while he is grown, he is still dealing with the repercussions. And Brett is reeling from a broken heart and getting involved with someone new is the last thing he’s thinking about.
Declan and Brett come together in a very unconventional way. The notes that they leave for each other start off in slightly menacing way, but quickly turn into something that can be labeled as flirting. They both recognize that their first impressions of the other person were completely wrong and that’s when the story really starts.
I love that the author got her idea for this book from a story that went viral. It’s a great idea. On the surface, this is simple story. Two neighbors, who don’t like each other, fall in love. But of course it’s much more complicated than that. Why don’t they like each other? And how do they overcome that?

Declan and Brett are so cute together. They have a rough start and through their letters you get to know them both. They may have a lot more in common than they think and when they finally come together, it’s explosive. They can’t fight that pull. I also thought it was funny and their banter added some light to the more serious parts.
The D- in 302 is an enemy to lovers/neighbours to lovers themed book. The story focuses on Declan Ward and Brett Coburn. Brett and Declan live in the same apartment complex, as the new neighbour, Brett doesn’t want to make waves. But he doesn’t realise that the dog that he is looking after for his ex is keeping the night-owl, artist and new neighbour awake at all hours. This seems to start a letter feud full of misunderstandings from both men, until it’s not
.
What I enjoyed about this book is that both men had preconceptions of each other which solely came from past experiences and lack of communication on both their parts. It was fun to watch their flirting and relationship develop into something more with some angst thrown in. The letters were both beautiful and funny and really helped to set the slow burn story up into a head full of steam passion!
Overall, the story is sweet and easy to read with some really great characters thrown into the mix.
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review

Jess Bryant totally knocks it out of the park with The D- in 403B! It’s one of the sweetest, sexiest MM stories I’ve read in a while.
It all starts with Declan, a grumpy artist, leaving a not so nice note for Brett, the sexy vet, regarding the barking that is constantly coming from his apartment. I loved reading Declan & Brett’s flirty banter via notes taped to each other’s doors and the way the notes not only evolved, but helped mold their relationship from the very first exchange.
**ARC in exchange for an honest review**
PS – If you’re a fan of Jess’s other MM books, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the quick cameo from another one of her books! =)
I LOVED Declan and Brett!! Declan is an artist who works at an art gallery. He sleeps during the day but keeps getting woke up by a barking dog. Brett is new to the building, recently separating from his “boy” friend. He is a Vet and he’s taking care of the dog. They start passing notes to each other. This was a well written story and such a great premise. Absolutely loved it!!
I am voluntarily leaving a review form an ARC that I received from Gay Romance Reviews. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
This was a cute sexy M/M enemies to lovers read
After a conflict because of Brett’s barking dog, Declan and Brett start a sparring match by leaving notes to each other taped to their doors.
These notes are adorable!
Highlight of the book.
These guys felt an instant attraction to each other but the road to getting there together wasn’t easy.
Both guys had huge… hearts and I fell in love with both of them
Enjoyable read.
This is such a sweet story; all the hearts and stars! This is definitely a love conquers all story! Brett is a sexy vet who recently ended a non-relationship in the worst way. He’s adorable and sweet, and, unexpectedly, loves to be in charge in the bedroom! He cares about animals, basically he’s a perfect book boyfriend. Brett moves into an apartment under duress of needing to get out of his current living arrangements. He brings his ex’s dog with him to keep while the ex is at a conference. Sparta is a husky mix, so she’s a big dog.
Declan is an artist and has a temperament to go with that, but, the guy has a huge heart! He takes care of his little sister Star (not by blood but by circumstance) who is 17. He is a man with an edge; he’s the D in 403B! He’s unhappy with the barking coming from Brett’s apartment, and due to a prior incident, Declan has a trigger for dogs. However, Declan and Brett “see” each other and Declan is taken with the handsome vet, and likewise for Brett, but that doesn’t prevent Declan from leaving notes. The notes are just the best, and this book has inspired me to write notes (nice notes!) to my husband and kids, really and truthfully!
These two reach a point of getting to know each other, develop a wonderful, loving and affectionate relationship and then things change that puts their relationship in jeopardy, but, be still my heart, each one of them is willing to make hard choices and personally challenge himself so they can be together.
This is a five star read! It will make you happy and joyful! Love Conquers All!
Jess Bryant has once again impressed the pants off me with her latest book “The D In 403B”. It’s a cute and sexy enemies to lovers M/M read.
Declan is a sexy painter who works nights and paints during the day. He’s beautifully damaged and you can’t help but fall for him especially when you see how much he loves Star his (foster) sister.
Then there’s the sexy vet Brett, he’s a tall glass of ice tea on a hot summer’s day. He’s polite, well mannered and the protector of furry four legged creatures. But underneath that, lies a dirty, dirty boy who will make you blush.
These two hit it off – NOT – and begin sparring by leaving each other notes taped to their front doors. I can’t tell you how much I loved this part of the story, it was equal parts hilarious seeing two grown men exchange notes this way and adorable to see them fall in love with each other with every written word they exchange. Their road to happily ever after wasn’t easy but it was beautiful and satisfying. Fall in love with the D in 403B and the man who tamed him. TBR and Enjoy.
This is a book that will hit you straight through the heart. In this day and age I can totally imagine this all happening. Maybe it’s because I’ve seen both sides of this story in real life. I don’t do spoilers. I don’t believe it’s fair to the author. Besides where’s the fun if I retell you the story. Read the blurb and buy the book. Enjoy the story all by yourself.
Declan, the broody artist with a heart. He’s seen the harder parts of life and has learned so much.
Brett, the gorgeous vet. Life growing up was good. But then you grow up and learn the truth.
Two beings so different but together make so much sense.
This isn’t just an MM story. This is a life story. When I read it I became so engrossed and absorbed in the soul of this book, gender difference fades into the background. Don’t worry you get the heat you’re looking for but the heat is generated from the depth of feeling, the everyday smiles, the trepidation of meeting someone new, the grade school crush you probably had, the butterflies in the stomach, the fear of putting yourself out there, your first fight. Yes, this book has it all, even dogs and great secondary characters that I’m dying to find out more about and really entertaining notes. It’s a quick read because you won’t want to put it down. I didn’t and was left wanting more. That’s always a good thing.
