There sits a large house on Cypress Lane in the small town of Ocoee, Louisiana, and its history is intertwined with the town itself. A feud was born within its walls, and it is there where it will die. The Cooley family finds themselves in the middle of a fight that started long before they arrived. Will they make it out alive, or will they become another casualty in the fight between the living … living and the dead?

Pretty good read. This is part one of a two part series. Having lived in multiple locations including MD and the deep south, I tend to look for inaccuracies when I watch films or read books based on areas where I have lived or know well. This ruins a story for me but I only encountered a couple of questionable descriptions which was not distracting. That’s impressive!
The story line is around a guy (and his family) who, if not for bad luck, would have no luck at all after he loses his job. Six months of unemployment leads to an opportunity with a catch; the family must relocate from MD to LA. Once settled into the company owed home in LA, adjacent to swamp land, the curse begins to surface. In my mind, I foresaw a different ending so the author’s ending wan’t predictable as I had expected. I enjoyed it!
I really didn’t understand the ending but pretty good overall.
I would rate it a 4
Well written but huge cliff hanger ending.
Although I enjoyed this book, I was also left confused… What caused the events that took place? Why we’re horrendous things done to innocent people? I would like to read the next book in hopes of finding the answers to My questions.
