Wow, I loved The Curse Breakers even more than Curse Keepers!
Starts off a little after the Curse Keepers ended, the emotional pulls the character have on your heart are so strong.
Ellie continues on a long journey to try to make things right by sending the monsters back to hell for good. In her journey she has so many obstacles but she has someone to help her.
Some complain on the situations of possible rape that almost happen. Yes some complain in reviews that this is horrible but also this is not the author condoning this. This is fiction, this is not real. I’ve read a couple books that the authors think rape is a turn on which sickens me.
No this author portrays the horror of almost being raped and how Ellie is a fighter and survivor time and again. This is part of Ellie’s character and the story.
This book will have you on the edge of your seat and I am rushing to finish this review so that I can keep reading the next book!
This takes off from the last book where Ellie closed the gate, lost her dad and betrayed by Colin. Even though the gate is closed all the spirits and demons got loose. Now Ellie has to put them all back. She goes through a lot in this book. I cant believe Okeus and what he wants. I absolutely love David and Ellie and how that came to be and where it is going. Another great ending but so many questions left unanswered which makes you want to get straight into the next book.
Whew! The Curse Breakers is one busy read. It’s fast-paced with a lot of surprising twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. It picks up where the previous book left us hanging with Ellie reeling in shock and trying to deal with the fallout of Collin’s actions. She still needs help but no longer trusting Collin, she looks elsewhere to get answers. She keeps coming up with more questions and time is running out.
I’m not a big history reader, however, I did find all the Native American folklore interesting. And a distraction from the fact that Ellie and Collin were not to be a thing. Or are they? Maybe not. Ack! This is a hard one to decide if I like but, in the meantime, there is a new man in Ellie’s life. Dr. David Preston, a professor of Native American studies that Ellie seeks out to help her. I like David, I really did. He’s all in to help Ellie in any way he can. It’s just I liked Collin more, despite all his flaws and bad choices.
There are so many different stories going on in this book – Collin’s betrayal, the demons running amok and their threats, and Ellie’s desperate search for answers, the re-appearance of the lost village. Because Marino still trying to get his hands isn’t enough, now the police are needing answers as well. Let’s not forget…a love triangle. Not a huge fan of them although this one definitely up the stakes of the drama in Ellie’s life…because she just doesn’t have enough with all the spirits that keep popping up, the fact she is being hunted and time is running out. It’s a lot to take in. At times I feel overwhelmed with all the plot twists. One thing I can say for certain, this was not a dull book!
It’s been a while since I originally started this series. Not sure why I didn’t continue on…? Oh wait, there was a cliffhanger that irked me. Yes, now I remember. Did a quick skimming re-read and there was that annoying cliffy. Hope being left hanging is your thing because guess what, there’s another one. Sighs. All I can say is thank goodness I have the next in the series to read because I have soooo many questions left lingering and I don’t know if I could take sitting on pins and needles again.
Stars: 4
I received this book from Netgalley. I was not compensated for the book other than the entertainment it provided. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Once again DGSwank offers a paranormal series that is a real nail biter, with a great romance too. These books will leave you reading well into the night, ignoring chores and using breaks and lunches to take it in. Love them!
Because I have to go start the next book! I’ve never been an Urban Fantasy reader. This is my first series. And I couldn’t love it more! DGS knocked another one out of the park! After the first book, I was hoping for an Ellie and Collin love connection, but not now! I love how DGS still wraps in some romance into the UF books!
That fateful day that Ellie and Collin met in the diner, the curse finally broke along with the barriers between the human and spiritual worlds. They are destined to live up to this ancient prophecy and defend humanity against evil. Ellie is now stronger than ever before, and must prepare for battle against the spirits. The Curse Breakers has deep historical roots that become even more prevalent when Ellie enlists the help of Dr. David Preston, a professor of Native American studies. They work together to finish what the Curse Keepers started in book one. A very well written, interesting, historical story that will hold your interest from start to finish. Five stars!
In the aftermath of breaking the curse Ellie has to pick herself up and rely on herself. Ellie becomes a much stronger person as she comes to grip with her new role as Curse Keeper and what that means. I love the new character, David. While I wouldn’t say its a love triangle, Ellie does have the paranormal attraction to Collin and he’s making his intentions known about trying to win her back. If I had to pick a team I’m team David, though I still feel bad for Collin. The story-line becomes more complex and secrets are coming to light, and things go bump in the night.
The Curse Breakers is the second book in the Curse Keepers series and it basically picks up where the first book ended. Ellie is having to deal with the fallout of the events in the first book and all of the emotions that come with everything she went through. I can tell that, in this book, she has already grown so much and I have hope that she will continue to become a stronger woman. I enjoyed reading more about the Native American history and how it all ties into the present day events. I really liked the addition of other characters like David and Tom. I have always enjoyed Denise’s writing and this book was not any different. She made me feel the same emotions that Ellie was feeling as well as the feelings of the other characters. It was also easy to imagine the supernatural creatures and landscape of the area in the book. I look forward to reading the third book in this series.
Loved this book. I didn’t think it could get better but, it did. David is just what Ellie needs! Definitely a great series to start!
Great series! A little supernatural, a little rom/com, a little action packed drama what else is there?! I did not want to see it end!
The Curse Breakers is a fantastic book! It have everything I could ask for in a book; adventure, danger, mystery, and romance. Ellie is definitely one of my favorite book characters in Denise Grover Swanks’ books, which is saying a lot since she writes so many wonderful characters. I also love Collin and David is a great addition. The Curse Keepers series just keeps getting better! I am excited to read the next book in the series.
